John Chai from Town property group is extremely pushy and rude when trying to schedule showings in occupied apartments. He does not provide 24 full hours notice (he sent me an email after business hours, on a Saturday, and with far less than 24 hours notice). He does not take no as an answer. Is this the kind of person you'd trust with your lease? read more

Yikes. Avoid John. He's confused about the difference between a house and an apartment. (A two-bedroom apartment in a house-shaped building would be an "apartment for rent," not a "house for rent.") He actually said "There's no such thing as two bedroom house." Puts up ads that falsely say "available now" just to get you to call in. Don't waste your time. How do these fools get into real estate? read more

CJ is the worst realtor I've ever worked with. He showed us an apartment and had us hand in all of our paperwork along with a $40 application fee per tenant. Then he dropped off the map and decided not to return texts or e-mails until almost two weeks later. So glad we are going with a different realtor group and we won't have to pay this sorry excuse for a professional the realtor fee. I know this is a busy time of year but there's no excuse for ignoring your clients. Rude. read more

I was trying to get information on a listing from John chai. I was frankly disappointed by his lack of professionalism and general refusal to answer my questions. He was then rude and insulting, called me "laughable" after I requested a virtual tour. I will be taking my business to more prepared and less sophomoric brokers read more

As a fifteen year resident of Boston and parts throughout, I am in strict agreement with the general consensus that rental agents are subpar professionals. I've dealt with too many in my time and have made it my policy to avoid them at all costs, thereby avoiding the fee as well. George Krodel of Town Property Group did not change my opinion about rental agents, BUT he did prove that there can be exceptions to the rule. While I'm still not a fan of paying a full month's rent as a fee, I was actually happy to pay him for the time and effort he spent assisting my girlfriend and I in finding a place we could call home. It is a stressful and scary experience not knowing where one will reside in the near future. Working with George alleviated my concerns. read more

John Chai helped me find my new place, and he was super helpful, responsive, and accommodating to my schedule. He went out of his way to get my keys to me when I came in at a weird hour after being out of town. He also helped me find something super within my price range, definitely recommend. read more

I made an appointment with Daniel to see an apartment and he was very prompt and prepared with the keys and detailed information. He was also able to show me several other apartments that I had not seen advertised but fit my needs. Ultimately, I found a great place and they were very helpful in setting up the apartment with the required utilities. The only issue I had was they told me the building was RCN-compatible but it wasn't (not the end of the world). read more

I worked with Daniel Lee, and I have to say it was a nice change from a lot of the other realtors I've worked with in the past in Boston. To say most realty groups are like skeezy used car salesman would not be an exaggeration, but I didn't find this vibe at Town Property Group. Their office seemed clean, well organized and professional. I found a listing on a Friday afternoon, called Daniel and he was able to get me a showing that night. He didn't try to pressure me to see other places when I made it clear I was only interested in the one listing. He was cheerful and informative when we viewed the apartment, and was able to work with me to get all the pieces of the application in process so that I wouldn't lose the listing. He's been great with follow-up and communication and I would recommend working with him to anyone looking for an apartment in the Brighton/Allston area. read more

They treat people like crap. All they care about is your money and as soon as they get it you shouldn't trust anything they say. They have no respect for their clients and their own words. read more

Absolutely horrendous. I told my broker Dave Bussison my requirements, among which a cat-friendly apartment was one, and he lied to me about the place I ultimately rented! Because I immediately submitted a deposit on the apartment upon seeing it, he continued to tell me that I shouldn't even mention the cat that would live with me, but that "they won't even notice." When I voiced concerns upon learning that pets weren't allowed without notice, he actively told me not to mention anything and that "it would be fine." I foolishly trusted him. Less than 2 weeks after moving in, maintenance came to visit my apartment and the landowner emailed me a "violation of lease" notice. I had to find a temporary home for my cat and will have to find a new home now. He just cost me more time and money than the one month's rent I paid for his fee! I'm demanding a refund and encouraging everyone not to use this brokerage. They don't care about their clients or the properties they list. read more

I was emailing with Dave. I came in for an appointment at the time we BOTH agreed on and he looked at me like I had three eyeballs. No one in the whole office bothered to greet us when we walked in. After telling me I was in the wrong because I didn't send an email with my phone number (which I did) I decided that there were a million mediocre rental agents I could work with and I could at least find a mediocre agent to be nice to me. Boo to you Dave Bussison. read more

We recently found an apartment through John Chai. I had emailed for a bunch of properties from CL, and most of them were listed with TPG. None of the ones they showed us were what I emailed about, but I guess that is expected since the apartments go so quickly. He was very personable, easy to schedule with, and found us a great apartment. He even met with us last minute so we could look at the property again. Overall the process was easy, and well worth our time. Also, out of all the real estate agencies in the area, this seemed to be more organized/professional as they were all fast responders, had an appealing office, and were overall a good company. read more

Worked with Dave Bussison. He's a HUGE LIAR. He not only told us that our place accepted dogs (which they don't, and ruined my roommate's plans of getting a puppy), but he also expressed that we absolutely did not have oil heat. After we signed the lease, and now that winter is upon us, we find out we have to order oil and are pissed beyond belief. We have baseboard heating, which leads one to think everything is electric, but Dave had no idea what he was talking about. CHECK ALL DETAILS THREE TIMES when working with Dave and get everything in writing, and if you can help it, DON'T WORK WITH DAVE. read more

I just wanted to share my experience with TPG because I've seen some pretty polarizing reviews here. TPG is a smaller realty group, but it seems like they work harder to make up for it. I worked with CJ and he was extremely flexible in setting up showings. I ended up finding a great apartment within all of my parameters within a week of the first showing. The application process was quick, and the move-in process/key pick-up was also easy. Six months later, I had to break my lease and CJ helped me through that process as well, helping to minimize the monetary penalties. I give CJ 12/10, would rent with again. read more

We also got a surprise visit from John Chai, who decided to enter and take photos of our apartment while we were out with absolutely no advance notice at all. Town Property Group is disrespectful and unprofessional. There are plenty of other options around. Pick one and go with it. Just don't use Town. Think about the stories you've read here before you work with them--do you really want people with this little respect for your privacy to have access to your new home? read more

I did not end up renting an apartment from CJ Lee but wanted to come here and commend him for his great work ethic and "no pressure" attitude. He showed me two apartments, opened the door and let me do my thing rather than shadow me for the whole duration of my viewing spouting reasons why I'd be getting such a good deal. If all real estate agents in Boston were like CJ maybe moving wouldn't be such a hellish experience. He is transparent in his discussions which we also appreciated. I strongly recommend him for being thorough and letting you be in charge of your renting experience rather than the realtor. read more

I've been working with Matt Petty for a few years and he is phenomenal. His dedication and commitment is unparalleled and as a tenant it makes life so much easier when it comes to apartment needs and just problems that arise. I went through Matt for my first apartment and he helped me get everything settled for a second apartment in Brookline. He is friendly, well-organized, and very good about responding to emails, calls and texts so you never have to worry about things not getting done when he's on top of it! read more

We went through John Chai to get our place in Allston. He's super friendly and came out to meet show us places in the middle of a snowstorm. Very responsive to emails, calls and texts. Even helped get us in contact with the previous tenant to talk furniture with them. He is really personable and knowledgeable about the area and apartments he serves. Can't speak to the rest of the staff since I didn't meet them, but it was an overall easy and painless experience for my fiancee and I. read more

I worked with Dave Bussison, who was great to work with. He was not pushy at all and seemed to actually care if you liked different properties. He had a great handle on the market in all areas -- Boston, Allston/Brighton, etc. -- and gave me the inside scoop. I'd use him again. read more

John Chai was a great resource for us in our apartment search. He was very friendly and professional and we were able to view a wonderful apartment and sign the lease the same day! Thanks for the great experience. read more

My boyfriend and I worked with Henrique Duverneau to find our apartment and he was very helpful. He was very friendly and helpful. He was very prompt in answering e-mails and was flexible about meeting times, which was very helpful given our work schedules. I would definitely recommend working with Henrique if you are looking for an apartment in the Boston area. He did a great job helping us out. read more

My love and I recently worked with George Krodel to find our first place together. He was great: attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable. We viewed 2 units located within the same building, and could not decide which one to submit an application for. George came in from out of town on a weekend to show us both apartments a second time and was completely awesome about it. Second showings are the bane of every RE agent's existence, but you would never have known it by his cheerful manner. He listened to what we needed, gave us some great advice for applying to a particular landlord, and answered all of our questions patiently. He was responsive throughout the entire process, and when we followed up with questions that occurred to us later, we always received a prompt reply. We highly recommend working with George Krodel! read more

Matt at Town Property Group was really great helping me find a place very quickly. Even though I was out of town for the process, he was very responsive and helped me to secure an apartment that I really like. read more

I currently have CJ as my agent and I would really recommend him as he is amazingly friendly, SUPER EFFICIENT and very easy to communicate with on the daily basis as he is quick to respond via email/text/call. He is also super hardworking and makes himself available asap when there is a problem or potential apartment opening :D However, there was one hiccup with the apartment amenities - laundry was discussed and said to be "in the building" when in fact it was in the building next to us. This wasn't a super huge problem in the end, yet something to keep in mind and double check the next time we discuss apartment amenities! read more

I found my first (and current) apartment through Daniel Lee while Exit Realty was transitioning into Town Property Group. Daniel was extremely helpful with our specific needs (three residents looking for two bedrooms, a strict budget, and necessary public transportation) and helped us find the perfect space. Plus, when we moved into our space six months later (we were early lease signers), Daniel recognized us, greeted us, and grabbed our keys without needing to look up our information. This past spring we decided on a bigger space to accommodate an additional roommate and Daniel was more than happy to help us again! While we have had not-so-great experiences with other TPG realtors - hence the docked star - Daniel has been superb all around and we are so pleased to have worked with a real professional. To speak of TPG itself, I would recommend this business to college students or young professionals looking to work on a budget. They preview a lot of properties that involve split bedroom situations, heat/hot water included, and limited broker's fees. They offer some of the lowest-priced rentals in Allston/Brighton and are generally very responsive. While other realtors tend to "push" apartments on you - "Sign the lease today, this apartment won't be on the market tomorrow!!" - TPG is very relaxed and makes sure you make a decision when it's right for you. However, if you move up a tier to a higher budget, you may no longer be able to find what you're looking for. All in all, though, we had an excellent experience and look forward to working with TPG again. read more

Very unprofessional I started off dealing with Henrique who knew absolutely nothing about the housing questions I was asking, he told me 1st I would only pay security, the 1st and security, and then told me his boss would speak to me about that. After telling me he would e-mail a application by the end of the business day because he was unprepared and didn't have any on hand it still took two days to get an application. After filling out the application it took days for him to figure out what I should do with the application, I got tired of waiting so I called the boss Sam. I gave him all the information he needed and continuously had to call or text about the status of my paperwork. Some paperwork needed to be resigned on 9/19 I was told I would have the papers by the following Wednesday. The following Thursday I received a text NOT A PHONE CALL BUT A TEXT from Sam telling me the owner did not want to tie up the unit any longer and did not want to go with me. I wasted a month of my time dealing with them they took deposits that could have been used for something else and now I have an inquiry on my credit report for nothing I will never so business with them again and I will urge my friends and anyone else to run far far away read more

Daniel was incredibly helpful with our apartment search! We inquired about an ad on Craigslist and he quickly responded. He showed us this apartment in addition to others in the same price range. We ended up liking the one we had originally seen the ad for and as soon as we let him know, he said we could come into his office as soon as possible and fill out an application. We needed to find a cosigner, and he regularly checked up to see how we were doing. Unfortunately, we were unable to find one, but he then helped us to find other ways to prove that we could afford the apartment. He was always very considerate and timely in his responses. I would definitely recommend Town Property Group to anyone looking for a new apartment! read more

Just recently secured a lease with Daniel Lee at Town Property Group and it was a great experience! As someone who is relocating to Boston from out of state, finding an apartment has been difficult. Daniel was quick to show us 2 places through FaceTime, and although pushy about getting application materials in we went from a FaceTime showing to getting a lease in less than a week! It was a tedious process having to do everything over email and phone, but Daniel was patient and his sense of urgency kept us moving and got us the place in a matter of days! Thank you again for everything! read more

I want to thank Domenica for her help in my relocation to the Boston area. I started the process of finding a place before I relocated and with Domenica's help and communication we were able to find me a place and all loose ends were taken care of. When I relocated all I had to do was pick up my keys. Domenica is easy to work with and friendly. If you are able to tell her your living preferences and budget with her knowledge of the area she will find you exactly what you are looking for. Thank you Domenica. Look forward to working with you again. read more

I actually had a really great experience, especially with Matt Petty. He was incredibly helpful as I was moving from Wisconsin to Boston. The process went really smoothly and he was very pleasant and professional to work with. Even after I moved in he has still offered his assistance! Been working with Daniel for years. He's always found me a great place and I've never had any problems. Although the prices are slightly high, I always find what I am looking for. It was a very smooth business transaction read more

I worked with Daniel Lee from Town Property Group. He was very friendly and always answered all my calls. Helped me with all my questions and issues promptly. Haven't interacted with anyone else, but will highly recommend Daniel as a very good agent who knows his job and client's needs. read more

We went through John Chai after driving up from Pittsburgh for an apartments starting in May/June. John was great and we ended up getting an apartment through him that is awesome and within budget. He had several apartments for us to view (despite the off start date), did not push us to go above our budget, and allowed us to look around the place without giving a sales pitch. The only downside is some places require a brokers fee, but there's not a whole lot you can do about that with Boston Real Estate and John was upfront about move in cost. He will be my first call if we decide to change places in the future. read more

I recently found an apartment through Dave Bussison. I was looking to find a place quickly and with a minimum amount of hassle. My experience overall was easy and painless. He was good about responding to my initial email and setting up a time to look at the apartment. I ended up putting a deposit on the apartment the same day. That's about as good as you could hope for when dealing with the Boston rental market. read more

We recently found an apartment through Matt at Town Property Group. The process in finding an apartment isn't always easy but as soon as we connected with Matt, he was extremely accommodating. It helps to find a real estate agent who is knowledgeable and on top of everything. We had to see the property a couple different times and he made it very convenient for us. We absolutely love the apartment and happy with the process it took to get us there. Overall we would highly recommend Town Property Group and hope everyone has the same experience we did! Thank you again! read more

Do NOOOOOOOT work with Dave! It's such a shame because the other realtors in the business seem to be generally competent; but Dave is a complete nightmare. He continually forgets appointment times, is always rushed and very pushy about deciding on properties, not flexible at all. He's extremely rude in email correspondence and on the phone, but always has his tail between his legs when you come into the office to clear things up. Not sure what his problem is. He is not a good person. If you can help it, do not work with him. If you end up working with Dave as some stroke of bad luck, you don't want the property anyway. Trust me. read more
