The owner of the hotel, Heather, was very communicative and accommodating before and during our arrival. When we first arrived we were blown away by the cleanliness and attention-to-detail of the place, Heather clearly works very hard to make perfection the standard. The room was ever-so comfortable. After coming back late from the wedding, it felt wonderful to rest in a soft bed with fresh sheets and snuggly pillows. In the morning, guests have an assortment of Kurig coffees to from (the common room fridge was also stocked with soda, juice and water for guests). Upon check-out, Heather gave us a discount voucher for Darlin' Cafe, a cute and tasty local spot walking distance from the hotel. When it was time to go, we regretted not booking an extra night because we so enjoyed our stay but we are already trying to plan our return in the future! Additionally, as we were leaving, we spotted an ENORMOUS binder of papers, letters, newspaper clippings and photos cataloging the history of The Olle Hotel and I want to return just to sit and look through that since I didn't have the time to do so during this last visit! I must end this review once again applauding Heather for the incredible work and gracious intention that she pours into operating and caring for this very special, historical hotel. We won't soon forget our lovely experience here- thank you, Heather!

My friend and I were driving back to Houston and we decided to stop. Arriving about 12:15am, the lobby was locked, rang bell and manager came to window. Place was fairly booked, many truckers. Got the room for an alright price (should have been less but considering time it did not matter). Room was basic with flat screen TV, but did not turn on. Bed was acceptable, only two pillows but three blankets (it is in central-eastern Texas and should have been reversed). Two bars of soap and two pouches of shampoo were provided in room. Shower was slick and we had to be careful using it. For a small motel on side of road in middle of nowhere, it worked. Check-in is usually 1pm and check-out 11am. Probably would not be back, but it was decent and safe.

First year, made reservations at Grumpy's motel and when we checked in, was so awful that we immediately demanded refund and planned to just sleep in our car...that bad! But there was one other place nearby and thought we'd give it a shot, see if they had any rooms (everyone always booked) and luckily they had just had cancellation! Not expecting much, was pleasantly surprised to find friendly office staff, a great rate and nice clean room! Have stayed there several times since and they have remodeled many rooms and even have nice little breakfast in lobby. Certainly not luxury hotel, but just great for barbeque and chili festival weekend! We will be back.

Upon arrival he was extremely professional and kind at the front desk. The hotel is immaculately clean and does have modern upscale Decour. Couldn't be happier. The rooms are HUGE!! Ps. Refrigerator & clean towels were provided in the room. For these things alone, I would've given a 5 star rating. And, I love that pets are allowed; but, this is where the 5 rating becomes a 3. Pets are allowed and it's quite noticeable the moment I opened the door to the room. The room smelled heavily of pet urine the moment you open the door. Frayed carpeting, sticky floors in entry & bathroom. Strong smell of pet urine in the corners of the bathroom that worsened as you got closer. Heavily stained furniture. I avoided sitting on the sofa. Door of our room: Damaged and warped at the bottom corner of the door, leaving a significant gap between the lower corner of the room door and door jamb. As a woman, if traveling alone, I would not have felt safe. It was late and told no other rooms were available. Later found out that there were other rooms with 2 queen beds available, ours was a King room. Extremely large rooms. In room coffee maker is available upon request but I highly recommend their fresh ground coffee offered at breakfast. Although a shower cap and laundry bag weren't offered in the room, I was able to obtain them from the front desk. The shower/tub combo doesn't have a clean or inviting appearance. Surprisingly, the pressure was super nice. Bathtub/shower combo had a non-slip surface but pealing around the drain. Again, despite the appearance, the shower delivered an extremely relaxing spray. Bathroom toilet and sink were very clean. Other room amenities: Iron with iron board. 2 hangers. Complimentary toiletries included hand wash, lotion and hair dryer. As another reviewer said, this place has so much potential. The odor and sticky floors were very off putting - Found myself playing a mental game of the Floor is lava. When I got into the car the following morning I could smell pet odor emitting from the soles of my shoes. At this point, I called the hotel, I spoke to the manager and let her know how unsettling & unpleasant the odor was. She was very confused by the odor, saying no one had used the room for a very long time. They just replaced the AC in that unit. In spite of what she said, it smelled like a boarding kennel and that a dog had been left unattended for a while. She offered to check it. Although I left a privacy placard on the door, I gave her permission to enter and have a housekeeping attendant to enter with her to mop the floor; which improved the situation. I'd really like to give this establishment a 5 star rating because the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and clean, as were the towels. They were very fresh and white as any 5 star hotel. I'm giving a 3 rating for others to be aware. I love that it's a pet friendly place. Sometimes leaving fur babies at home is unavoidable. Truly, it's a joint effort of the hotel guests to help the hotel management to keep the establishment cleanly. I'd advise to travel with a crate or a play pen for your pet. As a pet lover I'm very compassionate so when I stay in pet friendly hotels I travel with Febreze Pet Odor remover; which was a huge save on my allergies and made my 2 night stay tolerable. I hope to hear they've made improvements in the areas of safety and odor. I'd like to stay here in the future. I hope this helps you on your journey and I wish you safe travels.

For what we wanted, 5 stars…read more What we wanted: A clean, well-lit place with good amenities to rest our heads for the night, in close proximity to the various sites. This place delivered in spades. It's catty-corner to Welhausen park and some-odd minutes walk or extremely short drive to our furthest destination - the Spoetzl Brewery. Everywhere else we wanted to go was inside that radius. I'll put it like this. My map app would bring up walking options before driving options. The AC blew snowballs (to put it in Texanese). The surroundings were calm and quiet. Despite being in the downtown part of Shiner, it felt like we were in a cabin in the woods. Don't get me wrong. The main road runs right by, but the town's so quiet at night that you barely notice. The restroom: I don't know about you, but quality facilities are a must. I'm including images of the double-shower and the toilet. The tank is huge and the toilet runs thoroughly. If you need a double flush, you might wanna get checked - medically speaking. That is, unless you had overindulged at Friday's Fried Chicken earlier that day (as we did). Then, a second flush might at least be the courteous thing to do. The bed: We got the king sized one, so there was plenty of room for both of us. The pillows were billowy and there were two for each of us. The mattress was comfy but properly firm, without being rigid. It didn't swallow us, but it didn't reject us either. A second blanket would be nice to add, in consideration of those with spousal blanket hogs. The rest: There was a mini fridge, a coffee maker, and a microwave for the kitchenette, wall-mounted cable TV, a mini upholstered bench, a wicker chair with throw pillow, two unique night stands, a wooden desk with drawers that had a steel bowl on it (perfect for for pocket items like keys, wallet, etc.) and matching 4-legged chair, a large stand-in closet, and plenty of outlets. The decor was sparse, which is fine for us. We weren't in Shiner to spend our time in the room. The floor was linoleum and the restroom had that cool old school tile. For safety's sake, I always recommend chanclas/shower shoes. There were plenty of towels. We never saw a bug, rodent, or other such pest in the room. There's also plenty of outdoor seating. Upshot: Clean, well-priced, and comfortable. What else are you looking for? It's a place to sleep and rejuvenate, not a palace.
