We stayed in two of the large "tents" and one of the smaller cabins. It has a wonderful rustic flair to make you really feel like you've gotten out of the big city, but still comfortable enough with the temperature controlled setting and the wonderful mattresses to make sure you're well rested. They have a variety of things in a large plot of land, including a river you can swim in, various trails to take your golf carts around so you can see a variety of wildlife, including deer and armadillos, a very nice pool and hot tub with a full bar right next to it, and other small things, including a cornhole set and a Pickleball court. What I think blew me away, though was the incredible hospitality of those who worked there, they were genuine interested in making sure that we were as comfortable and happy as possible, and the very delicious breakfast that they made for the house, the pond request. Whether you're with the family, having a romantic getaway, or just simply wanting to enjoy the beauty of the Hill country, I cannot recommend this location enough.

The hotel grounds and our room were clean and well-maintained, and by the end of the trip, we were already talking about coming back. We only stayed three nights, but all of us wished we could have stayed longer. There is so much to do that it's difficult to fit everything into a short visit. The grounds are beautiful and well-kept, with plenty of space to explore and enjoy the outdoors. Our family especially enjoyed the playground, visiting the animals, riding the bicycles, and spending time at the pool. The nightly s'mores were a huge hit and created some great family memories. There are also extensive walking areas and a variety of activities available, including skeet and trap shooting, which add to the resort's unique appeal. The biggest disappointment of our stay was the food. While it was perfectly acceptable, it felt more comparable to chain restaurants like Applebee's or Chili's than to what you might expect at a luxury resort. Unfortunately, the prices were significantly higher. Given the resort's remote location, dining alternatives require leaving the property, which means many guests end up paying the premium prices out of convenience. On the other hand, the hotel bar was excellent. The craft cocktails were well-made, and the local craft beer selection was impressive. The drinks were expensive, but the quality justified the price more than the restaurant food did. Overall, this is a beautiful resort with excellent amenities, friendly staff, and countless activities for families. It is also one of the most expensive resorts in Texas, so it's worth budgeting accordingly. Despite our concerns about the food pricing, we absolutely loved our stay and hope to return again someday.

There was a large wedding during our stay; but it wasn't even a bother the grounds are so large. The breakfast buffet was lovely, such a great selection. My 6 yo was in heaven with the fresh fruit! Dinner, not as thrilling. We went to Mavericks. The staff were ok, not nearly as engaging as breakfast. The food while really good was really overpriced. Being that far out of town they can really gauge you. Because unless you plan to leave, you'll pay it. We loved our stay and hope to come back again!

Paranormal Activity Cut Our Visit Short!…read more We were looking forward to a relaxing weekend at Belle Oaks and were drawn in by the charming photos and description. But from the moment we arrived, it was clear that--while still beautiful--the inn was showing signs of wear, a faded echo of its restored glory from 20 years ago. What we liked: The property retains a nostalgic charm, with antiques adorning every corner. The hosts greeted us warmly and shared a bit of the inn's history. To their credit, they did warn us that the older electrical circuits might cause occasional flickering lights. What we didn't expect: Lights turning on and off by themselves. The television powering on in the middle of the night. Bed sheets being pulled off us while we slept. Feeling as if I was being touched and it wasn't my husband. The paranormal energy was far more intense than we'd anticipated--and ultimately, we decided to cut our trip short. Other concerns: The pool was dirty, and while breakfast was tasty, it was surprisingly sparse. As someone who's stayed in many bed and breakfasts, this was the first time I've encountered a buffet-style setup with no table settings, no water service, and a limited selection. We left both hungry and unnerved. Speaking with locals we learned that stories abound about hauntings in Gonzales.

Stayed at the 3 BR/8 guest house on Aug. 10-13th. I had an issue on the initial booking identity…read moreverification where there was an error on the verification questions. This caused my booking to be cancelled and I had to rebook and reverify. VERY inconvenient but everything got worked out. When you pay $900+ per night you don't want to be inconvenienced while trying to book. The Reserve is a nice community, but like all managed "premier planned" suburban areas they are very Nazi-ish with rules and enforcement. Again, when you're paying over $900 per night it's very off-putting and insulting to constantly be reminded of the rules. They treat you like you're a college kid trying to sneak and throw a frat party while you're parents are away for the weekend. Our rental even had cameras on the house that were actively being monitored (details below). VALUE: I don't normally complain about price so I won't do it here. Let's just say that this place is expensive. I voluntarily paid the money but it's a high price. HOUSE: Nice place, very clean. Premium decor - Texas modern rustic. Complimentary prosecco in the fridge upon arrival was a nice touch. Bring your own food/drinks/condiments (salt, pepper, etc.)/ice. All utensils for just about any kind of cooking and everything needed to have nice dinner parties were there. We had an issue with POOL: I did a cabana rental for 2 days at $50 per day. Rentals include a complimentary pitcher of beer or margarita per day. Pool was nice and in good shape. Lazy river, kids pool and infinity pool as well as swim up bar and snack bar are all part of the pool. You aren't allowed to bring any alcoholic beverages, food, or coolers into the pool area. They did allow us to bring an individual cup or water bottle. They will search your bags for food/alchohol/etc. if you bring large bags. LOCATION: Be prepared to drive 40 minutes to anywhere. There's enough restaurants, entertainment, etc. 45 minutes away. All-in-all this was a good place to stay. The main reason this is not a 5-Star review is because I was contacted by TurnKey with a threatening call because the management/owner were watching us on the Arlo/Netgear camera (Nazi-ish) on the back patio (there's a camera on the front porch and back patio) and thought that one of my guests was on the back patio smoking. None of us are smokers and it was insulting for them to accuse us of smoking (I'll say it again for emphasis... when you're paying over $900 per night).

My cousin and his family have a membership here and they invited us to come out for the day. When you are driving out there it feels like it is kind of in the middle of nowhere and then all of a sudden this paradise appears. We spent time at the marina. This was the nicest marina I have seen in the Austin area for sure! I could tell everything is taken care of with the utmost care possible. The marina is treated somehow as well so that the cobwebs and spiders don't take over your boat and slip area, which is super nice and convenient. There is also room for outdoor kitchens and patio furniture at the front of each slip. People have grills and stuff out there too. I gathered that it is a thing to just hang out at your slip area and cook out with your friends and family and you may or may not even take the boat out. After we took the boat out and came back in we road the golf cart up to the lazy river. This is where it really started to feel like a resort for me. They have a decent sized lazy river that is so much fun! There is a swim up bar on one side and the bar opens to the deck area on the other side. There are plenty of tables to sit at and chase lounge chairs in the sun and shaded for total comfort and relaxing. I had a few perfectly made margaritas from the bar and had a wonderful time hanging out with my family and floating the lazy river! The Reserve property is actually pretty huge! They also have cabins you can rent out, tennis courts and a park area. There is lots of places to hike around as well. This would be the perfect family get away spot and it is not too far from other cool outdoor things like Krause Springs, Hamilton Pool Park and of course Lake Travis!

This year's water level is historically low (since the 1960s), so direct swimming access to the water is nearly impossible. Boat ramp closed. However, the view is still spectacular. We also appreciate the grill spots -- we saw previous complaints about the grills -- honestly, we don't quite understand why they are being so picky with the public grill spots lol... I can tell they have tried their best to manage/clean. A/C works well, especially at night! Not much noise created. All the fire pits were upgraded and well-maintained. Some things to be careful with: 1/ Some weeds in the grass can be sticky and painful to pick off. Be careful walking in grass near the cabins (wear water shoes). 2/ Some dogs may be reactive to people/other dogs (barking). But everyone was very respectful. 3/ Didn't try the swimming pool; it looks a little muddy. 4/ Coffee station not working well. We noticed from others' reviews and brought our own coffee boiling pot with pour makers. They also didn't provide milk/coffee mate. 5/ Pillows are not quite comfortable.

And just like last time, it was a great stay. I'm not sure if I noticed their amenities last time or if they added on facilities in the last decade, but a few things to know: o There is a giant, we're talking massive swimming pool that's 3"5 deep all the way around. As a shawty, I appreciate that. There's plenty of seating, pergolas for much-needed shade. No restrooms at the pool. o Volleyball court o A main lodge area/event space, perfect for family reunions and such. o There's a "motel" also onsite. o It's dog-friendly, with a max of two dogs per cabin and a $25 deposit per pet per night. o Amazing sunsets, direct lake access for swimming or boating, grilling areas, and "The Point" which is a great spot for a nightcap and handing with friends/family. As for the cabins, once again our group reserved five of their six cabins that each come equipped with two decks overlooking Canyon Lake, a hot tub, multiple bedrooms, living spaces, fireplaces, full kitchens.... Note that some cabins may have a studio-style room with no wall. Our AC was kickin' and there was plenty of hot and cold water. Only gripe is the living room seating in our cabin, Cabin F. The chairs stunk like BO. My guess is that guest sit on them with wet river clothes... hope they steam them.

My stay at La Cantera Resort was pleasant, and I checked out with a final folio that balanced correctly. However, after checkout, two additional charges totaling $271.01 appeared on my credit card. Neither charge appears on my final folio. Since discovering the charges, I have contacted the resort multiple times and opened a case with Hilton Guest Assistance. On several occasions, I was told someone would contact me within 24 hours. No one did. Most recently, Hilton informed me they have been unable to obtain a response from the resort regarding the disputed charges. I have no issue with the charges I knowingly incurred during my stay, as those match my receipts and records. My concern is with the unexplained charges and the lack of response despite weeks of follow-up. I encourage guests to carefully review their credit card statements after their stay and compare them to their final folio.
