But from the moment we arrived, it was clear that--while still beautiful--the inn was showing signs of wear, a faded echo of its restored glory from 20 years ago. What we liked: The property retains a nostalgic charm, with antiques adorning every corner. The hosts greeted us warmly and shared a bit of the inn's history. To their credit, they did warn us that the older electrical circuits might cause occasional flickering lights. What we didn't expect: Lights turning on and off by themselves. The television powering on in the middle of the night. Bed sheets being pulled off us while we slept. Feeling as if I was being touched and it wasn't my husband. The paranormal energy was far more intense than we'd anticipated--and ultimately, we decided to cut our trip short. Other concerns: The pool was dirty, and while breakfast was tasty, it was surprisingly sparse. As someone who's stayed in many bed and breakfasts, this was the first time I've encountered a buffet-style setup with no table settings, no water service, and a limited selection. We left both hungry and unnerved. Speaking with locals we learned that stories abound about hauntings in Gonzales.

I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. With how high the rates are it should definitely be a B&B still, but i guess high prices are just something that people get away with now! Regardless the room we stayed in was beautiful and clean and had updated renovations. The outside looks rustic but the inside is very comfortable and relaxing. Besides the music that is playing next door, sleep was great. The beds are comfy. We enjoyed rocking in the chairs on the patio watching the people. Plenty of parking during the week for guests. Staff was great and helpful.

Upon arrival, our supervisors provided us with a day pass to the spa which included, access to the grounds, trail access, pickleball access, library access, breakfast, coffee/tea, an hour long massage and a boxed lunch. We started at the pickleball courts and we were the only ones out there. The staff provided us with pickleball equipment so don't worry if you don't have any! After a few rounds, we then went to the spa to get our massage. In the massage building there were four separate rooms and a bathroom. Everything was clean and smelled amazing. A male masseuse then guided me to our room and ensured I was comfortable and asked if I had any areas I wanted to focus on. The massage was INCREDIBLE! My peers had nothing but great things to say about their experience as well. One masseuse was even experienced in pre-natal massages. The boxed lunch meal was such a delicious treat. It came with a sandwich, cookie, drink, chips and a salad. After lunch, a few of us walked some trails and sat around the fire pit. I would recommend sage hill a hundred times! If you're looking for a weekend getaway, a date night, team bonding, or some quick personal self care, Sage Hill is it!
