Even though my brother is developmentally disabled, he's able to live independently with help from me. This is quite a task since I live 2600 miles away from him. My brother recently had a flood in his kitchen from a broken dishwasher that leaked into the condo downstairs from him. I called John Uken (JP Contracting) to fix the damaged cabinet and flooring beneath the sink, work with the granite vendor to replace the kitchen countertops, install new sink, and replace and install new dishwasher. John emailed and texted me the job invoice and was in constant communication with me and my brother. We received a quote, and a few days later they started work on the floor. The floor turned out great, looked nice, clean lines, and just needed to be grouted. In the meantime they started the shower tile. We noticed after the first day, halfway through the project that it was not coming out as expected. The lines of the cuts were were not straight and it looked poor. We contacted John who assured us it would all work out When his employee returned the next day and tried to fix the issues he revealed he wasn't confident working with the type of tile we were using. He was ready to just cut us a check for the portion of the shower we had paid up front. They did not have someone who could come in and do the shower. Not sure why they would take a job that was out of their scope. Frustrating. I will say, we appreciated the employee's honesty when he realized he was in over his head. And they did make it right by returning the portion of the money we paid toward the shower already and agreed to cover the cost of the replacement tile. Due to these reasons, I'm disappointed but at least we didn't lose any money, just time.

Alex came over and looked at the old AC unit and furnace. His professional guidance including a recommended solution was both honest and accurate. I accepted his solution and scheduled the install. The entire time I was kept in the loop by text and phone calls. The day of the job they showed up exactly on time 8am. The team was fronted by Amando and with him was Pete and Tyler. This was clearly not their first rodeo. Amazing, the three men quickly removed the old units both inside and out and installed the new units. I was told the work would take another few weeks. Now that everything is complete, I cannot get a detailed list of the repairs/costs. I finally paid the last amount due and I give up! They kept putting items in the bill that they did not fix so I kept asking for an adjusted contract. I had to keep chasing them down and they blamed it on me. They said I made changes...(I removed work from the list just to get things done. We did alot of the work ourselves because we got no response from them.) Have used products for 3 renovations over the years. The tiles they sell are generally better…read morequality or at least all from same batch compared to what you get at the big box stores and 2 of 3 times that I bought from them were fine. The most recent experience was not so great. They are very nice when they are trying to get the sale, but once your order is in and you have a thought to modify your order they will tell you everything has been shipped and will be at the warehouse for pick up today even before they check their computers or call their suppliers. They also use this strategy saying they will give you 10 to 20% off for being a valued customer, but unfortunately that 10-20% is taken off of their marked up prices. For example, a 25 pound bag of mapei grout which you can get at Lowe's for $33 or around $40 from other local tile sellers was $50 (with tax )with 20% off. I am willing to pay higher prices and buy local to keep good stores in business, but I will shop somewhere that is more customer friendly when I look for tiles for my next renovation.
