We were in town for a family wedding and stayed here in July. The temperatures were exceptionally warm for this part of the world (~84F/29C) that day. While I realize that they probably do not have temperatures of this magnitude frequently enough to warrant air conditioning, one may like to think that they would have some way to moderate the heat when it does occur - fans, windows that actually open, etc. We found that was not the case.
The positives: Very centrally located; check-in was easy enough; the breakfast was decent.
The mediocres: This was allegedly a four-star hotel, but the appearance, room sizes, and service would not suggest that. I'm not particularly fussy about looks, but if you want a "four star feel", this isn't the place for you.
The negatives: Apparently fans and windows that open more than a crack are against this hotel management's religion. It was exceptionally warm in the room. We attempted to sleep and finally contacted the desk in the wee hours to see if there was anything that could be done to help cool the room down. The front desk worker, Gary, was less than helpful. He advised that the heat wasn't really his fault and that there was nothing he could do to ameliorate the issue. We certainly didn't blame him for the heat, but one would expect that a four-star property have fans available to regulate the heat, not to mention a courteous staff. We were asked about our stay when we were checking out and advised the staff member of our issue, and she suggested we contact management. We sent an e-mail to the hotel nearly two weeks ago asking for the contact information for the manager and have not heard back yet. Customer service is clearly not a concern for this hotel.
Bottom line: If you have no trouble sleeping in a tent without vents in the swamps of Louisiana on a still, muggy night in July, this may be the hotel for you. If you are someone who is normally warm, prone to hot flashes, or just plain likes the ability to have cooler sleeping arrangements, do not stay at this hotel. read more
