We've been here before and had only good memories. It didn't disappoint this time around either and we've left having enjoyed our stay immensely. As settings go, this hotel has a lot going for it scenically nestled at the waters edge in beautiful Donegal. We were made welcome on arrival and treated with great courtesy every step of the way from all the staff we saw. We sensed it was genuine warmth. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and I can be a fussy beggar. Our room was cosy, but not too big. It had tea & powdered coffee with tasty biscuits and bottled water. Our room view was the car park out front. We had a small table and two chairs and a fair size tv. The bathroom shower was darn good and the king bed was big and very comfy indeed. On our first night we had 60 mph winds battering against our bedroom window and it was quite wild. There's something very nice being warm and snug in bed listening to a howling relentless gale outside. All of the food offerings were simply ace. We enjoyed everything we had. I had breadcrumbed haddock with mushy peas with chips for dinner. This sounds like simple food. It is, but it's real food, it's all well prepared on the premises, and boy oh boy, this makes all the difference to the taste, quality but mostly the enjoyment. It was so good, so tasty, I had it the second night and had I stayed a third night I might had had it again. My wife had a different chicken dish each night and she too enjoyed every properly cooked tasty element on her plate each night. All these dishes were about €15. My wife also had a spa treatment which she declared excellent too. I enjoyed the steam room immensely. Breakfast too was also a real treat. I had kippers with poached eggs each morning and some porridge. The coffee and home made breakfast smoothies were tasty too. There was also the usual range of serve yourself breakfast food: sausages, scrambled eggs, black & white puddings, bacon, beans, juices, breads, mini croissants, jams, preserves and so on and some cold ham meat and cheese. There were a few niggles too; having to wait too long to be shown to our table at breakfast is irritating. Paying near €14 for two gin and very small tonics but I guess they have to make profit somewhere and there isn't a separate jacuzzi in the spa area, rather its part of the swimming pool and not great for all that. This is a pity. One must have a swim cap to enter the pool itself and I only used the pool to use the jacuzzi part. All in all thought we had another great stay and maybe one day we'll return. Still a five star experience despite the niggles. read more
