West campground pull thru sites are very close.

This was just an overnight after a long day of repair work nearby. We called for reservations and they charged our credit card right away even though the lady in the office assured me it's just to "hold" the spot. Price of $39 seems high even with Good Sam discount. Park is on the corner of I-29 and 12th Street which is the main road into downtown Sioux Falls. Very busy area and the noise level is constantly high. Our full hookup pull thru in the west campground was asphalt, level, shady and super tight. We were very close to the rig next to us. No fire ring or picnic table. Wifi was spotty. Campground location is convenient to food, shopping, the mall and businesses. There are a lot of longterm and permanent residents here. West campground is old and run down; south campground is supposedly newly renovated. If you're a big rig, towing and coming from the interstate, you won't be able to turn directly into the main park entrance due to the median. You will have to go to the next light and make a U-turn. We checked Google Maps and took Exit 80 from I-29 and used side streets to avoid making the U-turn with our 40' motorhome and tow dolly. You can call the office and get directions as well. This was fine for overnight but we won't stay here again.

our spot, which has plenty of shade, a walkway to our door and our own little driveway, a fire pit, and a picnic table.

For us, the staff were perfectly friendly and accommodating. We made our reservation about a month in advance. We are in the middle of a full-month stay; And though we are staying a whole month, they put us up front in a very nice space that is very easy to get in and out of. Grass, lots of shade trees, plenty of space on either side. Walks around the park revealed a beautiful setting with a lot of different trees providing plenty of shade. Lots of grass. Playground for the kids. And if their nice shady spots fill up, they even have a fairly big parking lot area that they have turned into full-hook up spots for weary travelers. Rates for us were very competitive to what we usually seek out, including electric and very good Wi-Fi. This is an urban setting, so there is a main road on one side intersecting the interstate on another. This means that you are very close to stores, shops, restaurants - but you can definitely hear traffic noise (that has never been a problem for us - we are usually watching TV or our air conditioner or fans are running). We will definitely seek to stay here when we travel through Sioux Falls again.

They are difficult to reach by phone and there's plenty of noise from the highway, but the location and services are excellent.

We were moving our family from Washington State across the country with a 42-foot fifth wheel, an SUV towing a cargo trailer, two tween children, three cats, a dog, a hamster, a gecko, and my elderly in-laws traveling separately with their own dog. We weren't on vacation--we were relocating our lives. Unfortunately, almost nothing about the trip went according to plan. High winds, health concerns, and vehicle problems forced repeated route changes. At one point, our SUV broke down 110 miles east of Rapid City, resulting in a $700 tow bill and several unexpected days of repairs. Throughout these delays, I remained in close contact with Mitchell KOA, calling multiple times to cancel, reschedule, and provide updates. I was transparent about our situation, our extra vehicle and trailer, and the challenges we were facing. Through all of it, the KOA community was incredible. From Montana to Wyoming and throughout South Dakota, every KOA owner, volunteer, and staff member we encountered treated us with patience, kindness, and understanding. As newcomers to RV life, we made mistakes, asked questions, and occasionally arrived after hours. Every campground we visited approached us with a spirit of hospitality and a willingness to help. By the time we arrived in Mitchell, we expected more of the same. Instead, we experienced the opposite. We arrived after office hours following another long day on the road. Tired and stressed, we were simply trying to get parked and settled safely for the night. Because of the campground layout and the size of our rig, we initially entered from the wrong direction. Rather than attempting a difficult backup maneuver, we safely circled around to reposition ourselves. Once at our site, we began setting up. One of our leveling jacks lost its foot during the trip, requiring us to manually level the RV before extending the slides. While my husband handled setup, I temporarily parked our SUV and cargo trailer while unloading pets and essentials before moving the vehicle. ~30/45 minutes later, a woman approached us and informed us our vehicle was blocking another guest. The moment I understood there was an issue, I immediately apologized and moved the vehicle. Had the interaction ended there, this review would not exist. Instead, what followed left us feeling humiliated and unwelcome. My husband and I repeatedly apologized and explained our situation. What surprised us most was being told that management had been watching us. If that was the case, I don't understand why no one came out sooner to offer guidance. A simple conversation when we arrived could have prevented the entire situation. When I explained I had disclosed our extra vehicle and spoken with the campground multiple times during our travel delays, I was told I had not. I eventually pulled up my call history and emails showing communications, only to discover they had been with the very person insisting they never happened. By this point, I was in tears. Not because we had been asked to move a vehicle or because we had made mistakes, but because after weeks of setbacks, breakdowns, unexpected expenses, exhausted kids, anxious pets, and the stress of relocating our entire lives, we encountered the first person on our journey who seemed unwilling to extend even a small amount of grace. Eventually, her husband stepped in. To his credit, he immediately de-escalated the situation. He listened, calmly explained where the vehicle could be parked, and treated us like people rather than problems. Within minutes, the issue was resolved. Looking back, I fully acknowledge we made mistakes. We drove where we shouldn't have, parked where we shouldn't have, and inconvenienced another guest. For that, we sincerely apologize. But hospitality is often measured not by how people are treated when everything goes perfectly, but by how they are treated when things don't. Every other KOA we visited demonstrated patience, kindness, and a willingness to help a struggling family navigate unfamiliar circumstances. Mitchell KOA was the one exception. We are deeply grateful for the many wonderful KOA owners, volunteers, and staff members who helped us throughout our journey. Unfortunately, our experience at Mitchell KOA left us feeling embarrassed, unwelcome, and disappointed. We sincerely hope future travelers--especially families navigating difficult circumstances--are met with the same patience, understanding, and grace that we were fortunate enough to receive everywhere else.

The sites are extremely small with barely 6' of grass between the parking pads. One section has the corners of the parking pads touching or within inches of each other. Bathrooms are large single rooms with sink, toilet, and shower. The shower is a small fiberglass stall and could be bigger but the room is large and very nice. Community Center (store, office, pizza) was also brand new and nice. Both nights, with a night spent elsewhere in between we had a reservation with a site number specified. The first day we were a little early and the other party hadn't left yet. They put us in another comparable spot. That was nice since we were there shortly before check-in - 15 to 20 minutes early. But the second stay, we didn't come in until evening and they had put someone else in the spot we had reserved. I found this odd and wasn't very happy about it. We had selected the spot for a reason. I'm aware campgrounds have the right to do that but with dozens of empty sites why would they? The hosts were very nice people but I don't love being led to my site and someone being there while I'm getting in place. They are work campers so I'm sure they are just doing their job. Seems odd to me. Again, they were very nice, pleasant people. This is also an expensive campground. Right $72 for one night with electricity and water. No sewer but there is a dump site. It's attached to Wild Water West water park. Way over priced and kinda icky. Check out the city parks department pools instead. $6 for adults instead of $28. And much, much nicer. I don't recommend. I see this getting worse, not better.

The setting and surroundings of Olson Park are absolutely fantastic!…read more I tell ya...for just quickly visiting and hanging out here for a couple of hours, this Olson Park was so well maintained! I'll say it again, lol, very well maintained!! The park is flush with green grass and is situated right by a scenic lake. Too bad I wasn't spending the night here because they offer camping. And...I am a camping enthusiast! I was here at Olson Park back at the end of June 2021 and the conditions were truly pleasant. I honestly felt like taking a blanket out of my car and having a midday nap underneath a tree, lol. I really can't say enough good things about this park. Before I do...I'll just provide some insight and details about where Olson Park is located and some of the worthwhile benefits it offers that make it such a worthwhile destination for enjoying nature and the outdoors. Olson Park is located in the town of Worthington, Minnesota. Worthington sits about 175 miles southwest of Minneapolis and only 10 miles north from the border with Iowa. It's situated about 3 miles outside downtown Worthington. I was traveling down through Minnesota along my 2021 cross country road trip. Eventually I was heading into Sioux Falls, South Dakota and further west towards Badlands National Park and the Mount Rushmore area. Along my driving for half the day, I was just a little fatigued and pulled off Interstate 90 and figured why not take some time to relax at a park and rest up before continuing on my journey. I discovered Olson Park through the wonderful app on my phone called Campendium. Upon arriving here, I was surprised they offered camping. I just figured this place was a quiet town park where you could come play some ball, have a picnic or just simply go fishing by the lake. Well cool...this Olson Park was perfect and ideal for camping! The best part being that you can set up your tent along all the fluffy and lush green grass which definitely make a for comfortable night sleep. Plus...I can't tell you enough how clean this park was! Seriously it was like out of a fresh springtime catalogue for a photo album! Lol, just reflecting back on my pictures invoke warm memories. Too bad...I should have just camped out for the night. But instead, I took it easy for a few hours before returning back to Interstate 90. Also...there wasn't a cloud in the sky during my time here. The sun reflected down on the lake's waters making for a wonderful ambiance. The campsites located next to the lake were efficiently set up. Just taking pictures of the park with the lake in the background was beautiful. For camping... - Campsites 1 - 12 w/ electric hook-up was $33 for the night. - Campsites 13 - 63 w/ electric hook-up was $28 per night. - Campsites 64 - 68 without electric hook-up was only $22 per night. All these sites were very reasonable and fairly priced for camping out at such a well-maintained park! You can book a reservation by calling 507-372-8600 Monday thru Friday. If there isn't a campsite occupied, then it's first come, first served. For spontaneous campers coming here on a whim, once you find an unoccupied site, simply claim it and then drop the fee into the courtesy box on the east side of the office if no attendant is around. And that's it, you're good to go! Here are some other terrific amenities about Olson Park... - They have a shower house with flush toilets, so no vault toilets are always a good thing, lol. - Cell phone reception worked perfectly here. - You can bring swimming apparel to enjoy the waters of the lake. - There were picnic tables situated all around. During my visit here on June 30, the park was empty. It was so quiet for such a picturesque park. And btw, it's always a benefit not having too many campers occupying the grounds. Overall...having tons of green grass, trees situated all around, good shade and a calm setting made this Olson Park to be an absolute winner in my book. I can't remember finding a better campground along my entire 5-month journey across the United States! For those who happen to be driving Interstate 90 and or making their way through the southern portion of Minnesota during their travels, I can't recommend Olson Park enough, so refreshing to discover this hidden gem of a park and campground.
