Stopped into Iron Coffee the other day for a cup of coffee. It was pretty busy so I was optimistic…read more The coffee was ok, not great, but ok. We had the dark roast and would have thought it would be a little more robust in flavor but it wasn't. It seemed a bit weak like not enough coffee used or the roast wasn't roasted dark enough. The service was great however so that was a plus. Nice and friendly staff all the way around. There were a lot of locals there so it seems to do a decent business. But to be honest, it's the only coffee house in town. The place seemed a bit dark and dirty. The exhaust system must be not working or not strong enough because the entire place smelled of what ever was being cooked on the griddle. We sat upstairs and our eyes watered the entire time we were there. The odor got on our clothes and stuck with us until we got home. Their restroom wasn't clearly marked and was kind of hidden back by the kitchen area. It was also very dark where it was located. A little more light all the way around would be helpful. The concept and decor is a great idea but it felt more like what we use to call a "greasy spoon" restaurant than a quaint coffee house. It won't take much to make it better but as it is, can't say much good about the experience it Iron Coffee Co. I hope they take this review in a positive light as there really isn't much that needs to be done to make it a very special place to go for coffee. Note: We didn't have anything to eat so can't comment on that.

The shop offers everything you want or need: comfy seating, warm environs, genuinely friendly and attentive service, delicious from-scratch foods and beverages, and good prices. The trays of homemade baked goods coming straight out of the kitchen looked and smelled wonderful, too. Hudson Roastery is really good at what it does. I highly recommend it!

Incredibly bummed, especially seeing all the positive press around the quality and the sourcing…read morethey claim to approach business with, that quite a lot of the food being served was from SYSCO or another large similar restaurant supply vendor, ordered by the case and baked from frozen. Now first off, don't get me wrong, buying in bulk or sacrificing the quality of some ingredients to large suppliers like this is definitely a reality when running a restaurant. Even moreso in this day and age when ingredient prices are exorbitant. That said, it needs to be reflected in the price point. Pastries are arranged beautifully under cloches in the display case, but I could spot the premade, ready-to-bake spinach feta bistro (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/QZ119984/) or ham and cheese croissant (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/99971/) from a mile away. The avocado spread on the preassembled breakfast sandwiches is definitely the pulp from the 3lb bag from Chef's Warehouse too. I know that taste! All of that said, they had a few items in the case that I'm sure weren't from one of these big vendors. Which was great to see. My (yes, unsolicited!) advice would be to pare down the menu. Offer just a bit less so you can focus on the quality. Try and tap into some local producers if you can! That's one of the best things about the Hudson Valley... how much all the purveyors and markets and cafes support each other. It's clear too how much they care about the community. They're dog friendly inside. No WiFi to encourage people to chat with one another. Fine. I really want to see this place continue to thrive, it's just a bit of a bummer that a significant part of the menu including things that really should be fresh, aren't.
