I needed a cold brew fix while I stayed in downtown Albany. With no Starbucks to be found, I found…read morea spot around the corner from the Renaissance where I was staying. The cold brew was alright but the food menu for breakfast sandwiches didn't look to interesting nor the baked goods so I opted against that. The interior was clean with plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your joe. It works well if you are working nearby at the state capital or one of the surrounding businesses and need something fast for caffeine.

As she prepared my drink, she kept mumbling under her breath. She then handed back a not filled to the top matcha and said that she was out of her regular larges, whatever that means. Although I hadn't asked for sugar, she added some anyway. After walking in the city on a hot day for a couple of hours, I didn't complain, especially since she was acting strange. Then lo and behold, I realized I was alone. There were three other patrons who had left. So did the barista. I found the "closed" sign at the counter. Thankfully, for some reason, the front door had been left open. I searched for a napkin before I departed but couldn't find one anywhere. Weird experience and the matcha was only "okay."

The whole place has a funky, eclectic vibe that makes it worth exploring. It's the kind of place where you go in for coffee and end up wandering around to see what else you can discover. But let's talk about the coffee, which is why I was there. I ordered a light roast drip coffee and a house-made apple cider donut. The coffee was wonderful, with a rich, flavorful taste that made me appreciate a good cup of drip coffee. The donut was equally impressive. Soft, light, and with a genuine apple flavor that didn't get lost behind the cinnamon and sugar. A great pairing! The staff was friendly, and the prices were right in line with what I'd expect from an independent coffee shop. I also got an unexpected bonus when the barista made an extra latte and offered it to me. Naturally, I wasn't going to turn that down! Between the drip coffee and the latte, I was a little over-caffeinated by the time I left. No regrets! And I'm glad I didn't turn it down. The latte was excellent. It had a strong espresso flavor without being overpowering, which is something I really appreciate. Too often, I find espresso drinks where the coffee overwhelms everything else. This one had a nice balance. Between the quality of the coffee, the delicious donut, the friendly service, and the character of Gasoline Alley, Monsoon is definitely worth a visit. I'd happily come back, and next time I'll make sure to leave some extra time to explore the surrounding shops.

Recently been dealing with a lot so when I knew I'd have a few hours to myself; I went out for a run and came here afterwards. I just sat outside with my coffee, it was nice and quiet, nobody bothered me. The interesting thing about this place is that it's more than just coffee, they have other little kiosks. Some sell food, some sell homemade goods like candles, lotions etc. It really is a place I'll come to again, and again.
