Although "Touching You" promotes itself as a specialty shop for cancer patients, that provides them with various prosthesis, bras, wigs and other personal items, their customer deportment and professionalism, is wanting.
Recently, a very close friend of mine went there for a consult, as she has just been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer... Which, in and of itself, is replete with its own set of concerns and the medical unknown.
Her appointment was with the owner and felt very positive about her visit b/c the owner has herself stated she is a cancer survivor... However, my dear friend couldn't have been more wrong.
The level of condescension and disrespect exhibited by this woman was nothing short of reprehensible!!! Even further, half-way through her visit, this woman had the audacity to escorted my friend to the door, showing her the way out by suggesting they would not be a good fit. REALLY!!!
I find this extremely difficult to take-in as this business was started on the premise that they were a store caring about CANCER patients by providing them with a service unique to their medical needs... After my friends visit, nothing seems further from the truth. It was very evident, this rude, condescending, bothered, nasty, (and even a little racist), display doesn't even began to cover her aloof and disrespectful behavior.
Needless to say, my lady friend, (Who, BTW, is a single mother and workaholic) was traumatized by the whole experience, further adding to her stress level, self-worth, and not to mention, having to mentally face her mortality head-on by preparing herself with the number of different possibilities that go along with such a dreaded diagnoses.
There's, Chemo, and/or radiation treatment to consider along with the fear of breast removal, or total mastectomy. All these things and more, are life altering changes that can leave any of us numb. And the last thing any of them need is to be treated with the level of insensitivity from someone holding themselves out as "Caring." BS!!!!
After reading several reviews online, this appears to be the owners MO, as a number of potential customers have shared similar experiences on their Facebook page and other review sites like this one. She and her business will be reported to the better business bureau and the professional medical community, alerting them of this offensive behavior to potential customers.
Cancer patients already feel as if their bodies have betrayed them, and asking themselves "what have I done to deserve this disease?" WHY, WHY, WHY then, would a person in the business of supporting these patients treat them with such disdain and callousness??? If anyone out there reading this has an answer to this question, I would surely like to know. But her behavior is, IMO, indefensible. read more
