In addition, Right At Home does not guarantee coverage when caregivers are unable to be at work. Parents receiving caregiving have been left without caregiver support. Most recently caregiver arrived with cold symptoms with no screening by the agency and had to be sent home. Concerns brought to the management of Right at Home were dismissive. First, the caregivers themselves were warm, well-screened, and very patient and loving with our mom and dad -- both of whom had different needs over time. I became very fond of the caregivers, and we got to interview each of them ~ One of the caregivers was with me (and my dad), when my dad passed away. She was so good to me, and him -- I know being there at his passing has affected us both. We have stayed in touch. Second, the office staff were so helpful even on short notice, and with special requests and any changes to schedules. They just worked with me when we had to deal with (a rare) ill or unavailable angel, to get coverage. I do trust the owners, and spoke with them directly about our needs and about individual caregivers. While it was outside my bailiwick, I only wish they provided benefits (such as healthcare) to their workers, and maybe that is something the agency can consider in the future. The owners seem like good people, and caring towards as well as protective of their employees.

I'm particularly grateful for, and impressed by, Oliver's sincere compassion and care for the memory residents in the unit he directs. That's really what sold me on the place immediately, the first day I went, and he toured me through the memory care ward. I was scared to go because I had never been in a locked memory care unit before, and I imagined it would be some awful, dark, creepy, depressing, prison-like place full of anguish and suffering. It was anything but. Light, airy, clean, welcoming, with friendly staff being very attentive to everything that was happening. Every time I visited after my husband moved there, I had this same positive impression of the place. That very first day, I saw how Oliver interacted with some residents--one who was very frightened, and another who seemed very angry--and he just took the time to comfort them, listen to them, joke with them, and acknowledge them. He gave them so much dignity. It was very moving. Thank you Oliver, for doing this important work. Thank you Aegis for providing such a quiet and peaceful place for my husband to rest during his final days.
