Nice atmosphere, but you definitely don't get what you pay for…read more My fiance and I went for our 1-year anniversary. And we wanted somewhere nice, so didn't mind paying around $50 per dish, but the food just was nothing remarkable at all. I got the wagyu steak and she got some kind of fish. Mine was undercooked, but I'm not picky, so no big deal. But even after just having the dish at our table for a few minutes, they weren't warm anymore; just cooled to room temperature. It's like the plates had been sitting on a counter in the kitchen for 5-10 minutes before they got brought out to us. Our server was nice enough, but again for the price you're paying, you'd really expect a phenomenal experience. She was no more or less friendly than a server at Applebee's. My fiance had put on our reservation that it was our 1-year anniversary, so we thought at least somebody would say congratulations (as they do at other nice places in Kalamazoo), but it went completely unremarked upon. We didn't expect a free dessert or anything, but again, for what we paid for the meal, we expected them to at least mention the occasion. It's not a bad restaurant. But for what they're charging for food, you absolutely are not getting your money's worth.

This is a family-run operation and their team is revitalizing a blighted building in downtown Plainwell into a vibrant, thriving food- and drink-based hotspot. The lamb skewer and neapolitan flatbread were very good, but do avoid the shrimp skewer (3 shrimp) which two of us ordered. I have no problem with peel and eat shrimp, but this was like digging for crab--never got a whole shrimp out, as they were stuck to the shell. The skewer sauces and garnishes were spot on. The strawberry tiramisu (petite) and basque cheesecake (huge) with blueberry compote were both yummy desserts, and my pals very much enjoyed their cocktails -- a Hammer Thyme and Ruby Rush. I give a lot of credit to their focus on local purveyors, and ambitious plans to add more outdoor seating -- a fenced patio looks promising, which will have a grill station and pizza oven. Two final notes: I was super distracted by the persistent BANGING door to the inside space--very annoying. As well, our first moments were marred by staff knocking over a water glass, which sent water and glass flying. NBD, it happens, but the staffer didn't return to take care of it--we asked another to help deal with tiny bits of glass we didn't see at first. We were happy he reset the whole table. One of us was vegetarian and mentioned her choices were few. We had fun, and some of the food was superior.
