I went as part of a team bonding event and we thoroughly enjoyed getting our butts kicked by Gina herself!! I can't promise that the class we took is representative of their normal offerings, but it was intense! Our workout consisted of a warmup with battleropes, a HIIT style workout where we alternated between exercises on TRX bands and kettlebells, a cardio blast involving tag team sprinting and wall sits, and concluded with partner ab workouts using medicine balls and leg raises. I loved the energy, the music and the compact space. For the ladies, I also want to say that Gina is so thoughtful and hospitable! She had all sorts of personal care items, from lotion and tissues to hair ties and female hygiene products! Apologies to those to whom this info is not relevant, but I really felt that this level of care and detail taken to equip the bathroom was worth noting. You have a good-sized facility, trainers who know your name and want you to come in for training, and the workouts are challenging to your fitness level. They last 30 minutes. Quick does not equal easy. Au contraire, mon frere! You're moving the whole time, under the watchful eye of your trainer, and by the end, you will find yourself sweaty, tired, and thankful you survived. Think you can't "handle" boot camp classes? Neither did I until I went and saw that they customize your workout to your level and work around injuries. There are all ages, sizes and fitness levels that go. Feel self-conscious? Surprisingly, I've never felt any judgement. You're too busy trying to get through each station of the workout to notice anything other than what you're doing. I've been going to MELT for 4 months now. I go about 3-5x a week and I have not done the same exercise twice. They have three locations: Glastonbury, South Windsor, and Harwinton. And the other thing about MELT classes: they know you, and they know what you're capable of, and thus they know when you're slacking! The trainer will come over, give you a little smile, hand you a heavier weight, modify the form of an exercise, or make you drop deeper into a squat or lunge while asking you perkily: "Do you feel that now?" Oh, and if you're a woman thinking this isn't for you: think again. Just as many women attend then men. There are equal number of male and female trainers, too. This is not those boot camps where the trainers yell at you. They definitely push you. They motivate you. And they congratulate you. You will discover that your body, and you, are much stronger than you ever thought you could be. Your win is their win.

In my hunt for a new fitness class place, m.e.l.t. kept popping up- recommendations here on Yelp, Groupons, friends, etc. I decided to purchase the Groupon- $19 for 3 weeks unlimited. Purchasers of such Groupon must attend an orientation, which was a nice way to get everyone acclimated. I will admit, I was skeptical about the workouts only being 30-35 minutes. My skepticism has subsided, and I am a believer. I felt more accomplished in those 30 minutes than I have in any hour long class, let alone my individual workouts at the gym. The instructors are great, motivating, but not in your face. They give different levels of difficulty, and alternate options for exercises if you're not comfortable. Classes may be signed up for online, which is convenient. There are plenty of class time selections, and what's really great is that the classes are the same for the full day (ex: all Tuesday classes are meltabolic, Wednesday is melted upper body) so you don't have to pick and choose certain times on different days. I still have 2 1/2 weeks left of my Groupon, and then I will consider purchasing a membership (seems fairly pricy though!).

This gym is home to occasional Yoga Tune Up workshops, a fantastic mobility focused practice that is kind of hard to find locally. Dan, the owner, in addition to being a great coach is also a dedicated crossfitter himself and certified Yoga instructor. This is the place you go to break yourself down at the Crossfit box and get put back together, but better, in the Yoga room.
