I have seen this place on instagram several times so I decided to try it out. Here's my honest opinion grading from a scale of 1-10. Location/access: 7 Ambiance/atmosphere: 7 Parking: 5 Cleanliness: 7 Menu variety: 7 Food taste/quality: 6.5 Service/staff: 9 (very friendly) Price: 7 Wait time: 5 The food is good (ok) I feel it can be better, if they increase/better their portions. Salsa bar was pretty much out of salsas, I also feel their menu should have a little more variety. It is sad to see how far this place has fallen. I used to like TJ Tortas, but it has gone downhill fast. We were the only customers in the building, yet every single table was filthy. It is incredibly frustrating to see the owner or staff sitting around scrolling on their phones when the entire dining area is a mess. If this is how they maintain the parts the customers can see, I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. The food reflected that same 'don't care' attitude. The prep was lazy--tomatoes and cheese were cut way too thick, and the lettuce was wilting and past its prime. I couldn't even finish half of my meal. The Health Department definitely needs to pay them a visit because this isn't acceptable. We will definitely not be coming back. read more

All I can say is if you want the best crêpes in Chula Vista, San Diego, Bonita etc come here because they are the best. So good made from scratch.. Have not tried the Tortas which is what they are known for yet, but I'm thinking they're going to be very good. The desserts etc are off the hook. You have to try the crêpes in the front. Mediocre. Honestly came here due to the snack cart lady. Which I've see 3 other customers came & left for (she was closed for the day). We ended up eating here. The menu was small with quite a few crossed out items. We ordered a Torta Cubana & Adobada Fries with a Jamaica and soda. They were out of horchata. Kinda pricey for the 2 menu items & 2 drinks we got. All the salsas were basically gone & to the bottom. Cleanliness was not it, could've been way cleaner. Wasn't busy when we went in & there was a lot of down time. Staff wasn't dressed appropriately as you should while working in a restaurant. Small, private parking lot with about 5-6 spots in front that's shared with other businesses. The restaurant itself is big & spacious with limited seating inside. I've had many Tortas in my life, some were good some were not to good but this torta right here, has my heart. Never thought I love a Torta the way I love this torta,this torta is big, firm, tasty. I'm talking about the food item just in case you didn't know, clean your minds people. But honestly this is the best torta I've had, I got the Cubano Torta, it had Pork Loin, Milanesa, egg, avocado, jalapeño, lettuce, tomatoes & Chipotle Sauce, it was ORGASMIC! I blushed with every bite practically. The bread was perfect, big, soft & perfectly toasted & only $14 with all that in it, that's a deal! We also tasted the carne asada & Milanesa Torta, also great, my wife is picky with her tortas & she loved them. Their salsa bar is good has red & green salsa & pickled carrots & onions. Customer service was good, very friendly & attentive & the place was real clean, I saw a few people on Yelp cry/complain it takes awhile, well it's because it's FRESHLY MADE! No one expects to get a torta in 5 minutes that's crazy hahaha, that would be a cold or old torta. A good tortas takes time, you want something fast & cold or old go to subway or a fast food place. You want a good fresh hot torta come here, we'll be coming back for sure. They also have little burritos Monday through Friday in the mornings, gonna have to try those soon. I really wanted to like this place. We came in on a Sunday afternoon for a "quick" bite. There were only two other parties there. We decided to split an Azteca since it was 20 bucks and we were headed to the SDFC game. The cashier said about 15 mins. Ok... 30 minutes later, she looks at us and says Especial? and hands us a bag. My wife is already upset, we walk out. We are at our car and she comes out and says esscuse me, that's the wrong one. My wife says, its been over a half hour, can we just have our money back? The cashier replies, "I said Especial?" and handed us another bag. We just left, the sandwich was decent, and lightened up my wife's mood. But we probably won't be back. read more

I stopped by yesterday to get a late lunch. Ordered 2 tortas and a side of fries. Got a carne asada and a chilanga (asada ham and hotdog) the woman was very nice who took my order. The restaurant was bigger thrn I thought and really clean. Ok so the food, our tortas were pretty good soft bread and fresh ingredients. The fries were bad. Undercooked no season we had to toss them out. Tortas were 14 and 15 dollars, expensive but I get it with inflation it happens. Overall the tortas were good, nice location and nice people. read more

Worth Trying, But the Service & Value Need Work This place was... okay. I really wanted to like it more, but my experience was mixed. I know they're new so I'm giving them some leewa I called in two separate pick-up orders around 11:00 am and 11:30 am for a staff lunch, asking if noon was enough time. The girl on the phone assured me both orders would be ready by noon. When I arrived, the restaurant wasn't slammed. Two tables dining in and two people waiting. I still had to wait about 15 minutes for them to "finish" my order. From what I could see, it wasn't actually ready when I got there, and the cashier was scrambling to pull it together. My order was: * 2 horchatas * 1 Jamaica * 1 Especial torta * 1 Lomo torta * 1 Adobada torta * 1 kids torta + fries * 1 chamango * 1 esquite (corn in a cup) I had the Especial. It was... fine. Not bad, but not worth $14 in my opinion. My coworkers said their tortas were tasty, but since lunch was covered by our manager, they admitted they probably wouldn't pay that price themselves. My toddler's kids torta was also "meh". He usually eats everything without hesitation, but he didn't touch it. The fries were dry and completely unseasoned, which made me wonder if they skip salt for kids or just forgot. The service was interesting to watch. The cashier was clearly doing her best but was running in circles trying to get sides and drinks together, while what I assume was the manager stood nearby. At one point, the cashier asked about the Jamaica, the manager tasted it, said something I couldn't fully hear (I'm deaf in one ear), and then rolled her eyes -- right in front of me. Maybe that's normal for them, but from a customer's perspective, it came off as unprofessional. If an order is already late, I'd expect the manager to jump in and help rather than just oversee and critique. Overall; The food is worth trying at least once, but between the slow order prep, the odd service dynamic, and the high prices, I'm not sure I'd make this a regular spot. read more

This place is way bigger than it looks from the outside. You're immediately greeted upon entry. Everything is very clean and the ladies behind the counter were super nice. We got the carne asada torta and an especial. Both were very delicious, we can't wait to come back. I also got an horchata. Let me tell you about it: It's delicious. It has a very obvious rice flavor to it. I know that sounds silly because that's literally what it's made of but, most horchatas in the USA are very artificial. You can tell by the color, the fact that they come from a machine and they are very sweet. This one was light in color and just sweet enough. It wasn't heavy either. First time here, I ate the Torta de Chilaquiles verdes & a carne asada torta con todo! Let me tell you, the Torta de Chilaquiles was just like back when I was a child and my Grandma used to make them! the flavor of the chilaquiles were the real chilaquiles, soft with cheesse, tangy salsa verde with just the right kick of chile (in a scale of 1-10 10 being the hotest this was a 7 hot) , and the Torta (Telera) bread was just the rigth amount of tosted, crunchy, with melted cheese on the bottom every bite was just metting inside you mouth with the salsa berde and the Chilaquiles. Man! I am goming back for another one! the chef recommended next time to add eggs and I was also thinking to add avocado to make it more perfect!!!! They hit is right on the nail! Cesar the owner was super nice. The Chef and the young lady at the cashier were super friendly and with a happy smile! Their customer service was fantastic! It wasn't very busy at the moment when my wife and I came in yet when we were leaving it started to get busy. The carne asada was very good, it had gritle on the both sides (which made it a bit rubbery) yet the flavor of the meat with the chile jalapeño and the avocado made it just perfect! On more thing the Aguas frescas are made there so when I asked for a jamaica water it tasted just like when my grandma made it. They have just opend recently I wish then the best luck! By the way their menu is full of tortas I want to come back and try. They also offer Smoothis, Juices, Salmon Bagel, ACAI munchies, tostilocos, fresas con crema, choreadas and a few other things for Children too. Everything was very clean and enjoyable. New place in town so gave it a shot. It replaced another Mexican place that did not last too long that had mainly "gourmet" type tacos. Tortas TJ had above average tortas - we had the Especial pork and ham and also one with the the Carne Asada. In my opinion, there was too much bread in proportion to the meat but overall tasted good. Your mileage may vary. Fountain drinks were not yet functional. With so many choices on Bonita Road for Mexican food, this one is middle of the road. read more

100% recommend Tortas TJ, it's AMAZING! The tortas are massive, I could only eat half.. Really good flavor, prepared really good, fast service, friendly staff, very welcoming the ambiance is chill.. I AM HONESTLY SURPRISED THIS PLACE DOESN'T HAVE A LINE OUT THE DOOR.. The salsas are ok, I personally prefer more spicy salsas.. The grilled onions and jalapeños are absolutely amazing love them, next time I'm getting more lol.. I asked the cashier a question and she acted like I was the worst person ever. I asked if she preferred the carne asada or adobada. We got our food and the carne asada had ZERO flavor, our fries were cold and tasted like they were from yesterday. Very disappointed. I really wanted to like this new local restaurant. Went there for the first time on a hot Saturday afternoon in order to support this small business and have a nice simple family lunch but we ended up having to take the tortas home because they didn't have much on the kids menu and they were not willing to make my little one a bean and cheese burrito (which is on their breakfast menu) because we were an hour late. my son doesn't eat tortas so we had to go get him something somewhere else . We ordered 1 carne asada and 1 chicken torta and paid $30. They were both so bland and soggy by the time we got home . They appear to use very Low quality ingredients. Both meets were flavorless, hard and had no flavor. The top bun was hard and bottom was soggy.. not worth the $ money at all. The tortas were huge but nor even worth saving the leftovers ... to top it off there was only one family at the restaurant and it still took them almost 20 minutes to make 2 tortas. I suspect this place is not going to last. I'm not sure why some have raved about it. Much rather pay less and go buy a torta at the Bonita farmers market down the street... they are a lot more fresh and include a drink for less$ read more

I went today to try the tortas, we ordered the carne asada torta and it was just ok, nothing special , but we ordered the cup of corn and it was very disappointing, the esquites were cold and greasy it was as a mix of cold cheddar , mayonnaise and cold sweet corn that gets lost in all that horrible stuff read more
