HI all, I writing…read morethis for a long time friend and barber. I have been going to this barber since I was 16 and now I'm 31. He has gave me regulation haircuts when i was in the military and afterward when everything didn't have to be high and tight. I now travel from Dallas to visit my folks and to get my haircut there. I like this guy's haircuts because he is not judgmental, chit chat is minimal and his haircut are a breeze. I am especially tall and he has never asked me to stoop down in the chair. He is not a big pusher of hair products or other such nonsense. Not grabby with your head which amateurs and women stylist do too often. Not fruity either. Simply put, he is what a man's barber should be. In n' out quick, not so many questions. Not make you feel uncomfortable. By the way, his name is Sam, which I never knew until 8 years ago. His business has moved down the street to a new name Kleen Kutz at 6701 n Lamar Austin Texas 78752. His old business landlord was gouging him. Anyways, give him a try. He is the only barber at his business. Say chris from dallas sent you.

New to town and got a medium fade with David. He did a fantastic job and worked meticulously to…read moremake sure the fade was how I wanted. David took his time to deliver an excellent job! Was immediately complimented by my wife that the fade was sharp and better than ones I've had in the past. Looking for a new barber is always tough especially when moving to a new city, but David delivered! Would recommend if you're looking for a fade!

Don't love the haircut I got from Nico's yesterday. I saw an ad earlier this week for a $20 first…read moretime haircut special and figured I'd give them a shot rather than go in to my usual shop for a $10 edge up. Why not give a new business a try? Made a same day appointment and arrived to find out my barber didn't speak English. I've had many haircuts in other countries and expect that, but not here in my hometown! Wish that would have been clearer when I booked as I would have picked a different barber, or a different shop if this isn't an English speaking shop. I had trouble communicating what I wanted and ended up getting a haircut that I thought was a bit too long. At any other barbershop this wouldn't have been an issue, but I left here knowing I'll be back for a haircut earlier than I want. The haircut itself is ok, but I felt like he took some shortcuts as the whole haircut was under 30 minutes when it's advertised as 45 minutes. Don't think I'll be heading back here.

I just had my third haircut with Stephanie (2nd at Phoenix Hair Shop). She simply does a fantastic…read morejob. I've seen my fair share of stylists and barbers in Austin, and Stephanie is able to deliver what the others inevitably fail at. She has great styling skills, is friendly, open to feedback, and gives a very consistent high quality haircut. If you need a Men's cut, don't hesitate to book an appointment.

I drove by Good to Go Studio a thousand times before finally spotting it one day. I hoped the…read morestudio took "walk ins" as I was desperate for an immediate haircut. Sure enough, Portia, studio owner, greeted me with a warm smile, had time to fit me in and had me take a seat. Portia is very talented and always knows just what I want. I'll take in a photo of the haircut I want and she gets it to a "tee". If I don't have enough hair for a particular style, we work together to grow, style, cut and in time, we get there. I hear she's equally talented with color application, though I've not had color treatment (yet). I've recommended friends who are "afraid" of seeing someone new and Portia "WOWS" them every time. Her rates are reasonable, she's established in a cozy niche in the North Loop area and is involved with bettering our community. She's working on expanding her studio, though sadly the remodeling project is at a temporary standstill. So, go see her, and tell all your friends. As soon as her expansion is complete she'll be offering massage and an array of other sundries. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE 082209: Whoever owns the building at 207 E 53rd Street is obviously an unfair, underhanded landlord. I went to Portia at Good To Go Studio for years. In the last year she was SO excited as she rented the opposite corner of the building and had TWO spaces leased. After a great deal of remodeling, expense, and sheer excitement at expanding her business, seems the landlord got a better offer from "new, other" tenants and greed overtook his morals. Portia was evicted from the shop with no notice, and lost all of her investments into the recent improvement and remodeling and the additional space she had leased. This totally sucks. I heard through the grapevine that Portia was renting a chair in some shop out at Lakeline Mall, which ended up being temporary. Latest news is that she and her teen son moved to Oklahoma. Portia you are greatly missed. I've made a personal desicion to ban whatever present/future businesses exist at 207 E 53rd Street. My apologies to those renters/businesses that rent from the building owner. Beware of this building owner, you never know...one day YOU might show up to run your business and told you must leave with no notice! My decision to BAN this building is the only way I know how to NOT patronize the owner of this building in any way whatsoever.
