Drill Hall and the surrounding Parade Grounds and war memorials are a part of the visual landscape in Adelaide. There are no huge monuments here, but it has historical significance and is a pleasant place to walk around on a summer's day. In the Boer War and first and second World Wars, troops left from this spot. Nowadays the hall is home to a number of organisations - History SA, RAAF Association, Returned and Services League, Vietnam Veteran's Association and the Memorial Hall. This was also once the riverside camping spot for the Kaurna people, and after that a stone quarry for the building of Government House.
The Drill Hall also plays host to community events, such as the annual Helpmann Visual Arts Graduate Exhibition. The Hall itself is done in the stripped back Classical style of many federal Canberra buildings. read more
