However if you head along Beach Valley Road, watch out for the old timer Piha RSA. This historic RSA has been here since the early 1940's, so as you can imagine you feel a real sense of the past still lingers. A perfect spot to pop in for a pint or two, and sit out upon the wooden deck that gazes out over grass, marsh and native nz plants towards Lions Rock. This is just a very private and special place. If you are visiting on the weekends, you will be shoulder to shoulder most afternoons as it fills up with patrons who arrive to eat at the onsite Morepork Kitchen. Another secret reason I love coming to Piha RSA, is because of the delicious kiwi fare that Morepork provides. Changing the recipes with the seasons, and filling the gap I gain from being active at Piha. I always feel very at home here, and the locals make me feel welcome.

They make a juicy and flavorful patty and brightened it with fresh dressed greens. On a fresh homemade bun, it's some of the best burgers out there. When I get there, I'm…read morealways overwhelmed by the stunning view back towards the City of Sails, the relaxed neighbourhood and the quality of the cafes and restaurants. The Servo Cafe was my first introduction to the beauty of the food of the wild West. When I lived in Waterview, I was proud to call Servo's my local. A couple of minutes along the motorway was a small price to pay for the best brunch in Auckland. I was introduced to it by a vegetarian friend who raved about the breakfasts. With Roasted Addiqtion being her benchmark, this Westie cafe must be pretty sharp! Now it is on my must do list of Auckland - yes, it's THAT good. Housed in an adapted service station on the corner of 2 roads (hence the name), Servo's does cabinet food, licensed drinks, pizza & a great selection of classic brunch & lunch dishes, with a few innovative takes on the average Auckland brunch menu. My ultimate fave; the dish that keeps me coming back for more; my recommendation for those new to Servo's delights - Golden Smoked Kahawai & Herbed Potato Cake w-Servo Hollandaise, Poached Free Range Egg & Spinach. And in my opinion, it's even better with a side of bacon!! My vego mate salivates over the Vegetarian Kiwi Breakfast: Free Range eggs cooked to your liking, Grilled Tomato, Field Mushrooms, Servo Hash Browns, Spinach & Toast. Yumarama! The meat lover's version of this also lives up to it's reputation. Servo's hash browns are a legend unto themselves: golden, deep-fried spoonfuls of homemade goodness. No McCain's frozen rubbish here thank you very much. To be honest, this place is so good, I've been here enough times to sample almost the entire menu. The pizzas are amazing, the Portobello Mushroom breakfast served on Brioche will blow your mind, and Eggs Benedict connoisseurs I've taken here have drooled at the mouth. And the corn fritters are pretty damn good too. If brunch doesn't grab you - as I said, the pizzas are great, and the Caesar Salad & Calamari Salad would rival some of Auckland's fine dining establishments.

The location is lovely - looking out over the water at all those boats. Beautiful on a stunning Auckland summer day. ... But the food is just average. I ordered bacon and eggs on ciabatta. And while you can't exactly screw that up, you can make it pretty average - which is exactly what this place did. The bacon was terrible quality, it was covered in fat and it came out looking horrible on the plate, just dumped on the side. My poached eggs hadn't been drained properly and were watery tasting as well, so that made the bread taste awful. The bread wasn't well toasted, it was somewhere in between... I just don't get it. I could have got better at home, and I wouldn't have paid $18 for it. The muesli that my friends ordered was bland and didn't come with any yoghurt, so it looked dry as anything. Coffee was average, it wasn't disgusting but it wasn't great. It's just... pretty average. It seem clearly to me that this is a place that relies solely on its location.
