It's not every day that you can say you conquered the longest zipline in the world. Naturally, when my cousin asked me to go with her during our trip to Puerto Rico, I obliged. The aptly named "el Monstruo" (the Monster) is the park's newest attraction, having opened last year. However, there are a number of other ziplines that you can travel. The park itself is set in a mountainous region of the island, far from the blue water beaches. To reach it, you'll need to drive through windy, narrow roads - not for the faint of heart. Your reward for driving up is a picturesque view of the lush greenery. On a clear day, you can even see San Juan and the coast from the top of El Monstruo. Although they advertise El Monstruo as a 2-3 min ride, in reality it's more like a minute and a half. Make sure to look around and enjoy the views - just don't wave your arms around - otherwise you'll lose speed and won't make it all the way across (like what happened to my cousin). The only downside is the amount of time the whole day takes. We left San Juan around 1130am, and didn't return until after 5pm. Make sure to carve out enough time from your trip. It's also a little pricey - we paid $150/person just for el Monstruo - you can buy a package with the other smaller zip lines for an additional fee. read more

Had a great time. I'm 78 years old and still managed to enjoy all the zip lines including the Monster. For older folks navigating and climbing the paths between the zip lines can be steep and tiring. Just take your time and use the guard cables for balance. read more

GoPro friendly, you will just need the initial GoPro mount attachment and one of their many helmets with a mount. I found this very convenient, not needing to bring my GoPro head strap or even my GoPro Chesty. Bring comfortable, closed-toe shoes that will suit you well for hiking. Also be prepared for rain and wind just in case. I will suggest you check the weather app the night before you arrive. Make your reservation online! It is cheaper and it is a lot more convenient, it will make your trip a lot shorter. Also, look into the discounts they offer! They offer discounts for: police, students, military, birthday (same day), and seniors - so be sure to have ID. During my time at Toroverde, I experienced a fast and easy adventure. I only signed up for the Beast, which was very fun, due to the shortage of time and the extreme price for the Monster. They offer a tour of 8 zip lines, the Beast, the Monster, and many other cool activities. I was in and out in about 1 hour. I will definitely come back one day. read more

Put all of the synonyms for "amazing" right here. "I conquered The Monster". The 1.5-mile long, 1300+ feet high zip line that overlooks part of the central rain forest on the Island. I was lucky enough to book the Monster online when the park was running a half-price special, but I would have paid full-price for the experience. Things to Know... 1. If you aren't used to driving up winding Caribbean mountain roads with numerous blind turns, be aware and drive with caution. 2. The view is beautiful. While waiting to check-in and sign waivers (if you didn't already do so online) you can take in the wonderful view and get used to being up high. 3. You cannot take selfie-sticks or anything handheld. I recommend renting a Go-Pro at the park. You'll essentially be charged for the SD card. The park employees are kind enough to turn the camera on and off for you, so don't worry. 4. There may be an hour wait to get your gear on. Be patient. My appointment was at 11 am, but I probably didn't actually zip until after noon. 5. The Monster is actually two zip lines; one zip where you take off like Superman, and another zip to get back to civilization. The second zip is a little lower and you're in a typical, upright position. Then, once your group is done, a modified pick-up truck takes you back down to return your gear. 6. If you have small bag with personal belongings, you can put that bag in the backpack that holds your gear. Just remember to retrieve before exiting the truck. 7. Drink water and wear sunscreen. The truck that returns you to the main building is uncovered and completely exposed to the sun. It's hot! I absolutely love this place. The folks that work there are great and I always felt safe. This business has double charged me for a family of 8 for over $700.00. They won't answer the phone, or respond to emails. They switch from texting in english to spanish and then pretend they don't understand when I am trying to explain that they double charged me. I have sent invoices showing how they double charged me. No response. This is the worst business practice. We really want to support their business but $700 on top of the $1000 we already spent at this place, makes me unable to back this company. Exceeded all expectations!!!! We stayed in Fajardo (on the east coast) not far from El Yunque where there were closer opportunities to zip line. We decided however to choose Toro Verde. I'm so happy we did! It was absolutely amazing! The view was stunning, the zip lining was AWESOME, and the guides were super nice! It was worth the 2 hour drive. The zip line consisted of 8 different canopies of various speed and length. We also did La Bestia, a zip line where you lay on your stomach and fly across. La Bestia is almost 1 mile long with speeds around 60 mph! EXHILARATING! The facility was very clean and offered a little cafe for snacks. There was also a restaurant upstairs overlooking the nature park, but it was closed in the morning. The only downfall was trying to find Toro Verde. We drove ourselves, and cell service was spotty, so our map wasn't always available. There were signs stapled to trees every few miles, but they weren't very big and easy to miss, nor did they not offer any idea of distance. We often questioned whether or not we passed a turn off . Let me just start by saying that the older I get, the less I like heights. All day leading up to the zip line, I was scared crapless. My boyfriend and I bought tickets for El Monstruo; this was my first time zip lining and his second time. It i the longest, highest, and fastest (depending on a number of factors) zip line in the world. Go big or go home, right? The zip line was AMAZING! The scariest part was waiting on the high ramp before getting started. Once in the air superman style, it was so freeing and exhilarating! It was a solid 2-3 minutes of looking at the gorgeous scenery below and around me. We had to take another zip line back to the return station which I think I was more scared of than El Monstruo! I did get stuck on both of them and someone had to come out to get me though. I was told this was because of the wind, my positioning, and my weight. The heavier you are, the more velocity you get and you can make it to the end. The journey to and from Toro Verde was actually more adventurous and anxiety-inducing than the actual zip line. The GPS lead us to a point was was on a random street on the mountain... definitely not Toro Verde. We then used the phone GPS and 45 inutes later, we were actually at Toro Verde. All in all, it took us 2 hours to get there when it should have taken 40 minutes. The roads up are narrow two laners that are actually about a lane and a half wide. They're windy beyond belief and I was beginning to think I would die on the way there. I don't know how the locals do those roads every day! We were also delayed for 2 hours on the way back because a bus was stuck in the turn that was the only way out of Toro Verde. If we had to be stuck, at least it was in warm weather with nice scenery! All in all, it was a good trip and a fun zip line. The price was worth the one time experience, however it is not worth it to do it multiple times. The Good Nice woman took my phone call at 4 yesterday and answered my mannnny questions over, easily, 15-20 minutes. I explained exactly what my situation and needs were given that 1 in our group (my youngest child) could not participate in the activity the rest of us wanted to participate in because he didn't meet the age and weight requirement. I very specifically said he would need to do an activity he could do by himself. She gave me the options available to us and we got it all booked. I set us up for a great day! Yay me, right? The guy at station #7 of 8 on Tour 1 today around 10:30am. Super nice, very helpful. The Bad and The Ugly We arrived promptly at 8:30 for our morning adventure. We go to check in at the front desk, which turns out is for people who just show up and purchase tickets as well as for those who bought their tickets in advance...so you're waiting for them to make their decisions when you're ready to go. Note: their website says you need to make a reservation in advance and can't just show up. The woman at the desk proceeds to inform me that my son can't do the activity they signed him up for on his own--he has to be with an adult. Oh. And..and...it's a TWO hour experience, not ONE hour like the nice (clueless, evidently) young woman on the phone yesterday said. So essentially what we needed, were signed up for and I paid for, was not really what they sold us. It would have been nice if we had known... So my older kids go off to do their one hour activity and my youngest and I go off to do what he can do. They tell us to go stand in this one line to get a wrist band. Then it turns out they pull us off that line and give us the wrist band elsewhere. They send us to get our equipment on. Does anyone walk us to where we need to go? Nope. We figure it out and once there, we have no idea if there is a line or what. We finally realize it's based on the number on your wrist band. Oh. Nice. Thanks for the intel. We get our equipment on and nobody says a thing about what's next. So I ask the guy where we go and he points in the general direction, so we walk over there. After waiting for 10 minutes, I go to the woman at the front desk and tell her we were told to wait at the front (?) and have been there for 10 minutes. Her male colleague says the group we were supposed to go with has left already. What? "But it's okay, you can still go." Oh, gee! Thanks! I would hope so, seeing as I just paid you guys over $300. We made the required hike to get to the first activity. The "stairs" are overcome with gravel that has eroded from higher ground, making them...let's seee....NOTsteps, and pretty treacherous. We catch up to our group and get a one-minute schpiel on how they're gonna Clío us on to this cable and fling us 600 feet in the air for 400 to 2000 feet. Eight or so times. Other than that super fast run through that was virtually impossible to understand, the only other person who talked to us intelligibly about dos and don'ts was the guy on platform 7 of Tour 1. Aside from him, the staff had nothing to say to anyone. I'm so glad we are here to have! Fun!!! Once we arrived at the end of the final run, some kid who might have been 12 removes some of our equipment and loosens other parts of it. We are standing there for 10 minutes wondering what's next. OH! A truck is coming to take us back to the main area! What? We need to take off our equipment? Good to know!! We found all of this out when someone went to ask the 12-year old what we were supposed to do. This place is nothing short of a total and complete Toro shit show. Uninformed staff, total lack of direction, complete failure to communicating with their guests, rude and unfriendly staff at every turn, and a 12-year old employee who couldn't be bothered. No wonder they have a strict no refund policy! If they offered refunds they would t make any money. My little boy and I returned to find my other kids had been waiting for an hour and a half. They were starving and dying of thirst. I told them I wasn't giving this facility one more penny of my money and we would grab something nearby. Yelp, do me a solid and let me give them zero stars. This is a fun thing to do if it was safe, I was there 7 years ago, and none of the lines had a way to slow down towards the end, this made the person stop with such force, similar to being rear ended at a high speed. Unfortunately I didn't realize the severity of doing this "adventurous " and "fun" thing would have on my body. Since then I had issues with my back, legs and arms, had surgery done on my back, and need another one, I can't walk because of the pain and for the last 3 years a have been bed ridden. I do not recommend doing, unless they have made it SAFE, I wonder how many people have been injured like me, is not worth the pain and suffering you will go through if you do this. read more

I went on vacation with my family and wanted to visit Toro Verde. I made reservations in advance. I bough The Monster and Zipline for my husband and I and Toro Roller and Zipline for my kids. I booked both reservations at 9:00 am bc we had plans at 12:00. We drove 2 hours to made it on time. We did the Zipline first and then we were going to do The monster and the kids were going to do Toro Roller to be done at same time. When it was time to start the activity, the manager told me Toro Roller was close for cleaning and they were going to open it at 12:00????? I requested a refund bc we had to go, the manager told me it was Toro Verde policy not to give refunds. I explained to him it wasn't my fault bc I had a reservation, he said sorry we can't. We lost the money bc we had to go. We couldn't wait until 1:00 to leave the place. If attractions aren't going to be open, then don't have reservations open at that time. This place is worth the drive into the jungle if you're staying in PR for a few days. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The pricing was reasonable taking into account it's the longest in the world. We booked online, 8 ziplines + La Bestia, lunch, pick up/drop off included in package. $145 + tax. FYI: when we booked online, we provided CC info but money is not withdrawn at that time. Toro Verde uses that info for cancellation fees only. Therefore, you are required to pay when you get picked up by the bus driver the morning of the tour. So, bring your CC/ID or cash. Our tour guide/bus driver, Reinaldo aka Rei, had great communication, sending us text with valuable info the morning of the tour (pick up itinerary, payment info, & online waiver link). He was informative, very funny, and really made the trip going to Toro Verde a breeze. He provides the guests with a lunch menu to choose from, lunch will be ready for you at the end of the tour. Very yummy, by the way. Once at the location at Toro Verde, everyone that works there is very nice, helpful and instructive. We had a total of 4 zipline tour guides, who worked as a team. Their humor came in handy, especially if you're trying not to think about how high off the ground you're about to Zipline. I didn't make it at the end of the zipline twice, and was rescued by the guys both of the times. They are amazing and you can tell they take their job seriously, and love it. Tip: Make sure to take comfortable shoes in which you can hike up, YOU WILL BE WALKING ON ESCALATED HILLS/GRAVEL & UP STAIRS. Take your GoPro (we used a headstrap & an extra battery) because the views are magnificent, it's worth the money. You'll have fun. The equipment they use is top notch and you will feel secure at all times. I must add that the easiest of all the ziplines was La Bestia, do it and enjoy the views. read more

I would say that it is mainly for the experience. We did see a lot of good stuff going there that we would have never seen on the island. Actually had to tent a car to get here. Was cheaper than any other mode of transport. However, I get motion sick and the high elevation did not sit well with me. Really pretty though. I am not an adrenaline junky. However the guy that I was with is. He booked one line which was the "Beast" and wish he had just done the monster after the long ride. I did not feel safe on the roads going up the mountain. Narrow roads and cliffs and speeding local drivers. We drove two hours from Carolina for a six min flight on the line. It was worth it for the experience but probably will never do it again or anything like it. The staff on the lines were pleasant. Lady at the front was very pushy about the waiver and impatient as we pulled it up on phones. They are strict about Go Pros being attached to the helmet so be sure to have the right attachment piece. They are also strict about booking online in advance. No walk ups at all. read more

Sorry to bust your bubble. This place may be fun but not organized. We had a 230 reservation and did not get called until pass 4 pm. Either they did not have enough people working or the groups were to big to handle. Once my sons were all harnessed up they were sent on their own to the first zipline. Fortunately my older son is 25 otherwise I would not have allowed my other son to go. It's is now 630 pm as of this writing and I'm still here waiting for my boys to get back. read more

This was my first zip line experience. I really wanted to check something off of my thrill-seeking bucket list and this was my first child-free vacation in some years. The guide, Jerry called the morning of the tour to give us information about what to bring and informed us that he would be picking us up at 8:00 am. There were 3 stops Isla Verde, Condado, and San Juan. It was nearly 9:00 before he made it to our hotel. We made it to the other 2 areas and then he got a call from the company that we had to go back to Isla Verde to pick other people up, who did not bring their credit card to the van and had to go back into the hotel. Waiting, waiting, and more waiting. We finally made it to Toro Verde Adventure Park close to 11 am. There were several groups ahead of us so we had more waiting to get strapped up. I rented a helmet camera from the tour guide to document my experience. I was finally strapped up and ready to go on Tour 1 & 2. Tour 1 was a series of 8 zip lines and tour 2 is La Beastia (The Beast). My nerves set in as I climbed the platform of zipline 1. By the time I made it across I was more than ready for the next one. The group made it from 1 to 7 in an hour. We got to line 8 and waited an hour an a half to get on. The line goes down and is pretty slacky then appears to go up to the end platform, totally against gravity. The smaller the person, the less momentum they had to make it to the end once you had to go back "up". People were getting stuck at the end and having to pull themselves in. This is what took so much time. I was tired and hungry by this time. The Beast was the last one and I was almost ready to call it quits. We were transported to the Beast by truck (similar to one you would take on a hay ride). The driver was going way too fast and we were bouncing everywhere and the back of the seat felt like it was going to give at any minute. Much scarier than the lines. La Beastia was in Superman position and forced you to look down. At the other lines, the workers let you go or pushed you. At the Beast you had to push yourself off the platform!! If you ever wanted to fly without a plane, this is your chance. As I sped to the end I started to panic thinking about how hard the impact was on the other lines. This time the impact was directly to my shoulders and neck as I slammed into the stopper. Ouch! Talk about pain. They need shoulder pads in those holsters. We were driven back to the building in a regular pickup truck with 8 of is crammed in the back and forced to sit down on the dirty, muddy lining or sit in a squatting position for about 10 minutes. Totally unacceptable. There is no excuse for such horrible park transportation. All in all, it was quite an experience. Check mark next to ziplining. Definitely give it a try. read more

We came here to conquer "The Monster" - which is the worlds longest zipline. This was located in the middle of a forest in Orocivis, PR on top of a mountain which was difficult and a bit scary to drive through. We rented a car from Condado and made the 1.5 hour drive. Although it was a nice drive, it was a scary one. FYI: the roads are super narrow and locals drive like maniacs -- so just make sure you keep your eyes peeled and don't be surprised if cars come down the mountain hella fast and end up in your lane going up. When we got there, the girls at the desk were helpful, but I did not get that "friendly" vibe. I mean whatever, they answered my questions and got me checked in, but if I'm going to be paying $135.00 for two people to zip line - I'm expecting better customer service than what I got. We made a reservation for 3 but there was a "delay" not sure why, but we didn't get to zip line until 3:30PM and that kind of pushed back our plans for the rest of the day. However, our group that we went with were very friendly and it was nice talking to other people and getting ideas about what else PR has to offer. When we got up to the tower to prepare the decent, it was super scary and I was very anxious. When I actually got suspended HORIZONTALLY (SUPERMAN STYLE) it legit hit me that I was going to be suspended 7,000 something feet in the air and only being held up from just a cable and 2 clips... When I actually started the decent, it was not THAT bad. It was beautiful and the sight was amazing. I actually ended up getting stuck in the middle and one of the guys had to come out and grab me. Let's just say that being stuck and suspended that high up isn't fun lol The Monster included the main monster zip line and then you had to do another high zip line over to where the shuttle was. I am very happy that myself and my BF got to experience this. Now we can say that we conquered The Monster and we even have certificates, a badge, and pictures to prove it :p. read more

This was our first ziplining experience - a 14 yr old, and two adults. It was AmaZing! True, it was scary, but after the first couple lines, we got the "hang" of it. We did tour 1, which is 8 zip lines. The first one is pretty fast, then some medium and slower ones. The last three double in length each time until the last which is 2500 feet long, 600 feet high, and is very fast. What a thrill! We also rode "the Beast" which is 4700 feet long (yes, you read that correctly). It took almost 2 minutes to zip down it, all wrapped up like a burrito and suspended from two pulleys. It was like flying! It's true that almost everything was in Spanish, and the directions were... well, use the directions from the site, and look for the signs along the way. The map called the road a "secondary highway", but it was about a lane and a half wide, and winded up through the hills. Cars and semi-trucks are also barreling down the road, so sometimes I just pulled to the side. One guide did speak English and gave instructions that were easy to follow. They were really great guides, overall, paying attention when people were nervous, and helping them. read more

My 15yr old daughter and I did Tour#1 on 4/12/12. DOWNSIDE:We had 30 people in our group and it took 4 1/2 hours-TOO LONG especially since I had asked twice how long it would take and I was told up to 2 hours only. They should have had more Toro Verde employees on the platforms so it would have been more fluid. Instead, we all(30 of us) had to wait for a long time at each platform to do our next zip. ALSO DOWNSIDE:If you are a light weight person(like around 125lbs or less) there is a GOOD chance you will not make it all the way across in which case you need to pull your self along the cable to the platform) UPSIDE: The zips were really awsome-above the treeline which is better for a good view. The last zip#8 is half mile long and takes a full minute. Upon our request they hooked the two of us together so we wouldn't get stuck part way across. Also, super fun to do it together!!! There is a bit of hiking between the platforms, especially between numbers 7 and 8 but not a huge deal. It is a pretty drive up the windy road to get there. We had our GPS unit from home and it worked perfectly in PR everywhere we went including this out of the way place! There were several kids aged 6 to 15 and all of them seemed to be okay doing this. read more

This is the second time I visited Toro Verde. The first time was a year ago and it was a perfect experience. People aiding you between zip lines were nice, emphatic and the stops were flawless, with me slowing speed before the impact stop. This time it was something completely different. While the views during the ziplines are still breath taking, the service was not. People that aided you between ziplines were harsh, they prepared you in silent and threw you without a previous announcement. Also, every zipline stop what brutally aggressive. No slowing speed before the stop. Me and the person I went with ended up with neck and shoulder pain. We were not the only ones feeling this way. Came here to zip line some time in 2010-2012 and came back recently because this was a must do in Puerto Rico. I was shocked that they had a completely new building for guest check ins and even a restaurant! Let me break it down for you: Restaurant: We had a bit of down time before our zip line tour so we decided to give the place a try. The service was kind of slow, but the waitress we had was incredibly friendly. We got some type of lasagna but rather than the typical sauce and noodles, it was plantains and let me just say... AMAZING!!! For dessert we got flan and that was mediocre, but the highlight of our meal was definitely the entree. Zip lining: I remember they had the world's 2nd longest zip line back in 2010-2012 (the beast I think?), but coming back to realize they had a brand spanking new zip line that is now the world's longest is crazy (the monster). Unfortunately we weren't able to give it a try but we did do the zip line tour which consisted of 7 zip lines with a bonus one at the end. Just like I remembered from my previous trip, it was fun and the tour guides were knowledgable and efficient with their work. However, the bonus zip line took forever. When my group got there, there were already 2 other groups just waiting to get on. Despite the long and tedious wait in the scorching sun, it was fun. I had never been on a zip line before so when we decided to vacation in San Juan, we were told we had to go to Toro Verde and ride "The Beast." After care ful research (and prayer) I decided to take the plunge and I am so glad I did. The Beast is nearly one mile long and just under 900 feet off the forest floor. The speeds can reach up to 65 MPH so all of this can be a little scary. However, Toro Verde has gone the extra step to ensure your safety with doubling the cables you ride on, the number of straps you are tied into and the aircraft pulleys they use to roll you across the cables. They are very professional and safety is their first priority. They offer transportation but honestly, the drive was not bad. The last 10 miles on PR 155 was winding and a little hairy to drive but take your time and pay close attention to the other traffic. They are the what makes this drive the most risky. Overall, I can't offer a single complaint except I wish I had spent the day there doing the other 8 zip lines and their swing bridges. This should be a top destination for you if you are a thrill seeker and you have a day to spend there. If you just want to do The Beast, you can do the round trip in 4 hours from San Juan. The zip lining itself is amazing, but the services around it are meh at best. It seems disorganize, making everything slow down. I'm not taking about waiting for others on the zip lines because that was as fast as they could be, but a 20 minutes for them to get uniforms together and 1 hr to get a truck to pick us up has me feeling less impressed. Again I loved the breathtaking view and crazy zip lines themselves, but a bit more organization can go a long way! read more

Wow this is a MUST DO when visiting Puerto Rico!!! How could you go and not take a ride on the worlds longest zipline? The drive there is kind of scary with the narrow winding roads but just take your time. This was my favorite thing I did in Puerto Rico. The view on the ride is stunning. We arrived an hour early ahead of our scheduled time but they had space to take us sooner. read more

This place is HORRENDOUSLY UNORGANIZED and if you have anything else planned for the day, you might as well just forget it! Had a planned tour for the Beast at 2pm, they ask you to arrive 1/2 hour before for instructions, equipment prep, etc. They should just omit that bc none of that happened. Very chaotic and no one could help and everyone was just asking all other tourists. The guys on the platforms are really friendly and the views from the skies are great (that's why I gave a 2 star) but overall I wouldn't do it again. The Beast literally took 2 minutes but the whole experience was a total of 4 1/2 dreadful miserable hours. read more

"HOLY BEAST!!" The guide picked us up from our hotel at the Hilton Caribe. He was very informative about the Puerto Rican way of life during the long winding journey to the rainforest. We did 7 wonderful zip lines and then, there it was.... THE BEAST.... the one mile superman style BEAST over the river and valley! Our driver brought some cuban sandwiches for us afterwards. There is some strenuous walks in between some of the zip lines and one man had to quit. He was not in any kind of good shape so it was expected. It was a beautiful day, they were nice people, and it was a wonderful 4 hour excursion. They offer some professional photos if you don't want to take your camera. Our excursion was $199 which we paid $50 of that to the hotel. read more
