We were visiting my daughter and decided to go out to sushi. We have been here before and thought it was really good so why not go back. I would say our experience was a solid 4 stars. We had 6 adults and 2 kids. We only had to wait 5 minutes for a table as a large party was leaving. Service by our server was excellent and friendly as it looked like there might have been only 2 server and a helper for the whole place. While our server was running around, the helper looked a little lost walking around. Not sure if she was new or just very calm. Our food was really good. We stopped and asked the helper for a side of teriyaki for my daughter's teriyaki salmon bowl that needed more and some sliced lemon. It did take about 10 minutes to get that. Our sushi was good for the area but not the best we have had at other places outside of the Spokane area but still worth coming back. The placed looked clean. I told our server on the way out that there was no paper towels left in the woman's bathroom. The first time I used the bathroom there was so it ran out sometime after. Sometimes a strip mall sushi restaurant is a nice surprise, but this one was not. They refuse to turn the air conditioner on so it's hot and stuffy with no airflow with a heavy grease odor. Restaurant is filthy. Window sills are covered with old food and dirt, floors aren't clean, window shades are spattered with old food. Water glasses weren't clean. Sushi was not fresh. We have attempted to go a few times and even though it says they're open it's locked up. Not open for lunch. Shame. I still give it 3 starts as it's one of the few sushi places in the valley and when you do get your sushi it's very delicious!! But in the pricey side but honestly these days what isn't. I wrote an amazing review for these people 3 years ago and regret doing it. When calling to place a to go order I had a hard time understanding the lady on the phone so I repeated it multiple times. My husband arrived for pick up and it wasent ready. After he watched the staff stand around and move like snails for 30 minutes he went up to them and asked where it was. And it was sitting next to the register the whole time! Tired kids and just hungry, he gets home and there is no crispy rice! The woman thought I said "sushi rice" who the hell orders sushi rice? Unbelievable I called and the woman had the audacity to just laugh at me. Needless to say we will never be back and eventually this place will shut down with employees who don't even notice a person waiting for their order when it's sitting right there. I got yelled at by a sushi chef tonight because I tried to clarify and make a modification to the sashimi sampler. It was so embarrassing! They wouldn't tell me what type of fish was included. Absolutely no accommodation for my food sensitivities. UPDATE: The waitress came back and stated that the sushi chef was refusing to serve me because I am a liability risk. Wanted to give this place a try, haven't found my favorite place in Spokane Valley. I arrived and sat at the Sushi Bar, not really designed to sit as only a small section has enough surface area to eat. I ordered the 12 piece sashimi, sweet shrimp and Toro. I started with a salad. The salad was excellent the sashimi was mediocre to say the least, the toro was $24 for three pieces, over priced for the quality, the most disappointing was, I seen them running water on my sweet shrimp. It wasn't fresh but frozen. Service was excellent, presentation was great but Sushi needs to improve. While sitting at the bar, I noticed 90% of what they were making were rolls. My family took me to Toro Sushi for my 81st birthday. There were 9 adults, two small children. After waiting for over half hour to be seated we went over to what appeared to be seating for nine. As we approached and older Asian woman walked over and in front of all the seated customers she YELLS AT US TO LEAVE, NO RESERVATION. I have travelled a lot in my career and finding a good and consistent sushi restaurant is a difficult thing. Toro Sushi hits it on all counts. Today's sushi was superb and the teriyaki salmon my sister had was huge and delicious. At the end, there was a small mix-up on the credit card bill and the owner went out of his way to make it right with generosity I never expect from restaurants. I went to Toro for the first time last weekend and had a terrible experience. My boyfriend and I ordered a couple rolls and within minutes of being there, we noticed that the waitresses had been crying. I pulled one aside and asked if she was OK and she broke down. A couple minutes later the owner started screaming at the waitresses and wait staff. He was out of control with anger and rage. There were multiple guests in the restaurant, including families with small children. At one point, I got up, walked over and said "hello, I'm a customer here" and the owner completely ignored me and continue to yell at his staff. His staff was crying uncontrollably and he wouldn't stop. My boyfriend had to get up and helped diffuse the situation and we felt the need to protect the young women from him. I did record this interaction to ensure safety of his employees. We actually had to help escort the employees out of the building, I would not recommend this place as I would not support any supervisor (or human) who treats his employees with such disrespect. read more

Incredibly good food. Fresh and delicious! My new favorite place to when I come to Spokane. We tried the Omakase Deluxe which is a chef's choice of 9 pcs nigiri with a California roll. The second dish and my personal was the Super Volcano. The super volcano is a delicious California roll topped with shrimp, crawfish, scallions, crab meat and spicy mayo. We wanted to love this place. We tried to love this place. We really really tried to give them shot after shot because they are close to where we live and the menu has things that we normally love. All told we have spent several hundred dollars giving them chance after chance. That's of course when they are actually open. It seems like more than half the time we try to go there they are closed, once without a note, once with a note on the door apologizing, and the rest just because our timing happened to be during their afternoon break or a day they had scheduled to be closed. Unfortunately after being really good once they now just continue to disappoint every time after that. We usually order an assortment of rolls and a hot dish or two. Almost without fail one or more is wrong. The sushi kitchen line staff seem to practice glaring at customers as if they are in a competitive glaring league. They will do well once the Ocho picks them up. We've tried them on nights where they decided at 7:30 "no more hot food". We have tried them for slow week nights. And for the first time ever I tried them for takeout on a Friday night at 8pm. The seating was busy, so I wasn't deterred by the estimate of an hour for takeout. I was able to go to the grocery store and then head back at 9pm. They hadn't called or texted my cell like they said they would, but I had a good book on my Kindle App so I wouldn't mind if there was a few more minutes to wait. When I got back there at 9:05 the restaurant was down to about 6 tables seated with people. The kitchen crew seemed like they were going into OT in the Great Glare Off Challenge. The staff outnumbered the customers now, so even if they just now started making my order (4 rolls and a kids noodle dish without veggies) it shouldn't take long. Well the good news was they had started it...the bad news was it took them 20+ more minutes to get the kids chicken and noodle dish prepared to go with the rolls. I think they messed it up because I heard the hostess say something about Yakisoba and then the kitchen guys yelled something and started banging around like my kids used to do when forced to clean their rooms. Eventually the hostess brought our take out bags and mentioned the specifics of the order, so I felt pretty confident heading home to a now very hungry family 90 min after ordering takeout. Opening the bags revealed all the dishes, a couple napkins, one little thing of soy sauce, zero wasabi, zero ginger. We have our own soy sauce, utensils, and napkins, so we could make that work, but no wasabi and no ginger just ruins the rolls. Well it would if they were not all dried out and warmish now anyway, so perhaps they knew the rolls were beyond redemption no matter the ratio of soy, wasabi, and ginger applied, so they decided to save the expense of actually proving it. I suspect the sushi was prepared and ready to go very early into the initial hour estimate provided and so had been sitting out getting warm and dry for the better part of an hour. Even starving by this point couldn't bring the family to eat much of it. Well except the kids yakisoba. That was fresh and hot, so one star for plain chicken and noodles being made right eventually. And I know what you are thinking, maybe the sushi was too close to the Yakisoba...nope separate bags and separate seats on the short short drive home. The hostesses and wait staff do seem nice, but that's about all they have going for them. Although it would have been nice to at least hear them acknowledge how long it took. Also would have been nice if they answered the phone. So bye bye Toro, we have found much better options in the general area and even though they are not nearly as close, they are that much better that driving to them is now what we'll have to do. We've been hitting one or more of them at least once a week anyway, so now they will just get the business that would have gone to you instead. read more

The sushi is good and simple. The service Staff have been nice and at times the sushi chiefs feel like they are trying to have an authentic "stiff" Japanese feel as if in some movie scene. I have enjoyed eating here many times, the room decor could use and update. My big complaint is the hours. I feel like the hours have always limited the times we come anymore. I lived in Japan 6-years and my wife is from Japan. We had gyoza, which was deep fried, different than what we are used too, but very tasty. I had the shrimp tempura meal and my wife had assorted sushi. Both meals were excellent! Yes the complimentary miso soup leaves a bit to be desired, but we enjoyed the food & service and Kirin Beers to wash our delights down. We will be back! Visiting friends I found this sushi place and figured I'd give it a try. After 20 minutes trying to hunt down their website for a menu - they dont have one - and or a option to get it delivered - it's not available.... I bribed friends to drive me over to order and pick up. First thing, they are easy to find. The place is clean and the ambience is what you would expect from a sushi bar. The hostess was very new but also super nice, as was the rest of the staff. From the other reviews and the fact that they have an ad posted right now for wait staff. Their menu is a tad clunky - but from my experience that's pretty standard for sushi places - do many rolls so many descriptions. Biggest negative I'd point out here is they have alot of roll options, but alot of them are basically the same. Very few difference and not alot of uniqueness or variety - I may just be spoiled from the options at my home town. The majority of the tolls here have crab, shrimp or eggs - all of which are a huge turn off to my taste buds. The pluses - I ordered sashimi and they offer 3 pieces which were amazingly huge - I have never had sashimi this big before! Each piece was cut more than an inch thick and was a generous size portion. Crazy value for the plain sushi fish. The salmon and tuna were amazing - buttery and melt in your mouth. Now for the cons. I opted to try the sunrise and sunset. I was hunting for rolls with spicy tuna and salmon with avocado - these fit the bill but I'm a little disappointed the flavors on these rolls are off. I was worried with the lemon wedges under my tasty jalapenos- but I figured I'd give it a shot - it's a fail. The lemon are super thin, but the flavors do not work well together. Both rolls taste like they are missing something vital. A little wasabi helped but seems like a missing component to bring the roll flavors together. I would definitely try and find something different/ better next time, or just stick to the sashimi. I will say the presentation was great, even if the taste wasn't there. They looked pretty - but they were also lacking in consistency. The pieces ranged in size from standard to jumbo, making it a very odd thing to sample. Tried some of the veggie tempura, as I was looking for a roll with sweet potatoes amd this was the only way I could get sweet potatoes at all. Their tempura was abysmal. The breading was much more like catfish batter than tempura and had absolutely no flavor, the sauce had very little flavor at all and I ended up just using the soy sauce packets they sent along. Positives were the presentation, speed, service and the atmosphere. Overall rolls too expensive for what you get, stick to just the sashimi and you won't be disappointed. read more

I ordered Sashimi Super White Tuna and I was okay and a little spendy for the serving size... Surprised no danikon with it. I also ordered the Crazy bowl which said it came with several types of fish I found the salmon and crab... mostly the bowl was salad greens so again for the price a bit disappointing. Toro Sushi is great. Ever since covid they have been short-staffed so the easiest way to get your order is by calling ahead. So, if you want sushi in Spokane Valley and you don't feel like driving downtown or going to Liberty Lake. This is your best option. The sushi is traditional, well made, and they don't Miss the little details that make Sushi great. They use real masago and the product is always very fresh. Everything on their menu is great and I have tried a lot of their menu. The staff always greets you with a smile and makes you feel welcome. They do close between 2:00 and 4:00 to prep for dinner but that minor inconvenience has not stopped me from staying a patron of the best sushi spot in the valley. read more

My colleague and I were visiting Spokane on a business trip and chose Toro Sushi based on the 4 star reviews. I like the decor of the restaurant, it had a modern decor with a sushi bar and some booths and chairs and tables in the main dining area. We were instantly greeted by the the 3 Asian chefs behind the sushi bar. We chose to sit by the window, but it may have been too far for the servers, because the service was slow. We had to flag down our server several times and even our food took a while and it wasn't busy at all, about 20% of restaurant's capacity was full. Although the service was slow, the food was pretty decent. I ordered a chirashi bowl and it included salmon, seared tuna, tuna, yellowtail, whitefish, shrimp, egg, pickled daikon (daigo), seaweed salad, and ika (squid) salad. The portions were small for the price IMO. My colleague ordered a geisha roll, salmon sashimi, and seaweed salad. And we had 2 glasses of wine. Total, with tax and tip, was about $76 for 2. I don't know what other options there are in Spokane Valley for sushi, but I would come back if I was in the area again. read more
