The food, service, and overall all experience was great. I think we found our new favorite spot.

Review of Toro Bravo Restaurant, 13 August 2026 Nutshell: Fantastic Service and great food* in an updated and spacious restaurant SERVICE: We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Thursday. The parking lot was about 1/3 filled with cars at that early hour. Despite the fact that another couple that scooted into the front door lobby just ahead of us occupied the greeter, a waiter stepped in and seated us immediately. Chips and dip arrived at our table within 30 seconds of seating. I noticed that was the rule, not the exception. Our waitress arrived at our table within a minute, and she brought ice water with her. Again, I noticed that is what they do for all their customers. She cheerfully and patiently offered to answer our questions about ingredients, etc., but being "experienced" with Mexican food, we ordered quickly. Big mistake. See below. Our waitress had our order back to us quickly. She checked in on us at appropriate intervals, and when we asked for something she was back with it within a minute or two. Other staff came by and offered to bring more chips, more dip, etc., and they filled our water glasses whenever they were getting low without us asking. I think of the above as fantastic service. FOOD: OK. I will admit it. We were hungry and we ordered quickly, and, both of us ordered things we had never had before. My wife ordered enchiladas with mole sauce. She didn't like the cocoa based mole sauce. If you have never had it before, I recommend asking for a taste before ordering. It was not sweet, but the chocolate overtones were not welcomed by my Pilgrim wife in a savory dish. The waitress immediately offered to take it back and bring another dish of my wife's choice. Great! But my Prussian / German heritage farm girl from Indiana would not hear of it. "I ordered it and I will eat it". Yea. Ask our kids about that. I ordered the Molcajete Mixto. It turned out to be chicken strips, steak strips, pepper strips and grilled shrimp arraigned around the edge of a steaming hot black stoneware bowl of what I will call fajita stew. With a whole small grilled onion on top. The "stew" contained everything found in fajitas, cheese, and a savory sauce. I absolutely loved it everything about it. It came with rice and beans and corn tortillas on the side. Despite being hungry, I could not finish half of it. Oh yea, the manager came by and assured my wife that they would happily bring her a different dish, even though she had already consumed more than halve of her meal after scraping off the mole sauce and topping the enchiladas with some of the generous portions of guacamole and sour cream that came with my meal. She declined again. Then we ordered desert. It was single piece of Lemon Tres Leches cake which we took home and split between us. We've had Tres Leches cake several times in the past. The cake was light (not dense), with a light lemon taste. The icing was soft and creamy. The milks were not overly sweet, just enough to give it a moist sweetness without overpowering the lemon taste. It had the best texture / taste combination of any Tres Leches cake we have ever had. While we were eating dinner in the dining room, we watched the staff prepare, table-side, the Mexican Brownie for the guests at the next table over. Great presentation and it looked great. When the bill arrived, we found they had not charged us for the desert, and they said that was on purpose because my wife was not delighted with her entree and they hoped we would come back again. You bet we will. But next time: we will probably split an entree and order our own desert. ;-) read more

Went for lunch and have to say, the service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious!

I was super excited to try this place as their sister restaurant Dos Hermanos in Rita Ranch is so good! I know they are new but unfortunately they have a lot to improve on. I wish they had the same vibe, service, food and ambiance that 2 Hermanos does. The restaurant in itself is pretty bare bones, and I noticed a lot of the benches had holes in them. I guess they recycled the furniture from the last place? We were seated at a bench ( that was not secured to the floor) and it kept moving around. Somebody else was seated behind us, and every time they moved, my husband got pushed into the table. I've seen others commenting about this in reviews, and I also saw that Toro bravo management commented and said they would fix it, but apparently they have not yet. We love Mexican street corn so we ordered the Corn Esquites appetizer. It was a huge disappointment! I would recommend not ordering this. It said it was corn off the cob with sour cream, lime, cotija, chile powder, and cilantro. My husband said that it tasted like canned corn that they literally just dumped into a bowl, and added a few drizzles of sour cream to the top. It had very little flavor and hardly any Cotija cheese. It was super watery. It was definitely not corn off the cob like it was advertised. Also, this appetizer was supposed to come with chips. It didn't come with the extra chips as advertised. Luckily, we had not eaten all of chips they give you when you sit down so we had to use those for the appetizer. He got the chimichurri steak which was not cooked to his specifications. He said it was OK. I got the Poblano Enchiladas, and they were not seasoned. I actually had to ask for salt, which is not on the table?? The chips and salsa were good. Unfortunately, the service was also not amazing. We had to ask for refills and the server was not unfriendly, but was also not warm and inviting like the servers are at Dos Hermanos. It's interesting that these two restaurants are owned by the same people because everything is so different from the vibe to the service to the food. We will definitely go back and give it another try because we know how hard it is to open a new restaurant and we know that they have succeeded with one of their other restaurants. I feel like they should close for a couple of weeks and retrain the staff and redevelop their menu a little. Pros: hostesses were very friendly, and we were seated immediately. We bought chips and salsa right away and they were good. Cons: Ambiance ( old benches not secured to floor) Food- not prepared correctly and not consistent with menu, lacks seasoning in some cases Waitstaff- mediocre read more

We were very excited for a new restaurant in Vail. We went after work (4pm) on Friday and were quite disappointed that Happy Hour is 2-4. Maybe they don't want a happy hour crowd. I would think 3-5 or 4-6 would get more patrons in to enjoy happy hour. We ended up getting an appetizer and splitting fajitas. The presentation and flavor were good however the steak was very tough. We are happy a new sit down restaurant has moved in to the Rincon Valley. Food is very good, though the dishes are a bit pricey. Rice and beans are relatively inexpensive raw materials so it would be nice to have a bit larger portions on the plates. Plenty of of salsa and chips I do hope they do not charge for refills as stated on the menu. We were not charged and that is wonderful. Possibly consider a discount for Veterans. They are doing a booming business during their soft opening and that is wonderful. As they hire more staff wait times will diminish. We are returning! We love supporting local businesses! We finally have a great restaurant and a bar scene in Vail. Bar is a little loud but loved it. Need a better bathroom setup, I had to do the 7-year old dance while waiting. Food was phenomenal as the chimichurri steak was outstanding. All in on the margarita flight but the tajin sucker was a bit much. Place looks like a Terrantino movie but I didn't see Selma Hayek anywhere. Absolutely great addition to the community. read more

We gave this a try but not impressed. The food was bland. I got the chicken tacos and they were dry. Just tortillas, grilled chicken, onions and cilantro, no sauce. Everything tasted unsalted. The person with me got the beef tacos and said they were too greasy. The atmosphere isn't too great. We will not be back. read more

My husband and I went tonight which was their first day serving. The place was very busy with customers and the staff did an amazing job. We had the carne asada bowl and spinach/portobello enchiladas, with flan for dessert.The food was delicious and the fresh Mexican style menu is a welcome addition to this area. The building was clean and well organized. Service was a little slow, but expected for a first day. We highly recommend giving this new restaurant a try. We will be back! read more

Stopped in on a Wednesday just after opening ordered a quesadilla and a medium rare ribeye steak. Server was friendly and responsive, however when the steak came out it was about the size of a dollar bill very thin and cooked to jerky. The manager offered another piece of steak which I accepted. When the second steak arrived it was slightly larger (not by much) and looked like it hit the grill for 30 seconds a side. At $32.00 for a steak I cannot recommend this restaurant. Went to this place twice. Only actually ate there once. Let's start with the first visit ... went at off hours. Service was good, the food was ok. I got ribeye tacos. They were very under-seasoned, and there was no salt on the table. My daughter for chicken mole and said it was good. The restaurants decor is simple. It's a bit dark inside so if you have mature eyes, have your phone so you can use the flashlight to read the menu. The second time it was for dinner, got there around 7 pm. It was packed. We ordered and waited, and waited, and waited. Kitchen was backed up. Ok, but we waited over an hour. I got two margaritas, which were descent. My husband drank tea. Daughter, who was starving, drank water. It took so long we actually had to leave. Our daughter had to go to bed for school at 5 am the next morning for a clinical. They were nice enough to comp our drinks. My daughter went to bed without dinner because she didn't want to eat too late. Not a great experience and not sure we'd go back. read more

I have driven by this restaurant over the years so many times as it has changed owners, and I've gotta tell you that I hope this one sticks! Invited some friends to meet me and the wife for dinner last week. Lotta cars in the gravel parking lot, and inside it was busy but so quiet and comfortable. The paint/decorations were fine, but I am all about the staff, the presentation and the food. All were excellent! We each ordered something different, and we all agreed that the food looked fancy, and tasted wonderful. Prices were in line with what you should expect, and yes the portions are perfect. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The vegetables took on the flavor of the meat yet the flavor of the vegetables was infused into the meat, I can't really explain it but it was delicious. The horchata was the best that I've had in a long time. My husband decided to try out this new restaurant for our anniversary lunch. We enjoyed our food very much. It had great flavor. I ordered the rib-eye and my husband ordered the poblano enchiladas. Our experience was so bad in several ways, it's hard to begin. The hostess was quite pleasant but sat us at a booth where the bench was not attached to the floor or wall. When my husband who is in a boot for a broken ankle went to sit, the bench moved back. Thank goodness he caught his balance. No concern was shown from staff. We ordered our drinks, when only the water & lemonade (very watered down) showed up i asked about the bottle of coke... "We're out"... We ordered carne asada street tacos on flour tortillas and a carne asada burrito to be split. Our lunch took just over 20 minutes (there were a total of 5 tables occupied when we placed the order). The street tacos came with corn tortillas which dried quickly and the burrito was covered with a red sauce which tasted like generic tomato sauce with a little pepper. Not once did any wait staff come to ask how our meal was, but our bill was left on the table by our waitress who immediately turned and walked away with out any closing comment at all Or instructions as to where to pay the bill. I walked up front and asked for the manager. He started out with excuses about the bottled coke and continually interrupted, but he did remain calm. As we started talking on top of each other i asked if I could please just pay my bill. He stated he was going to offer to pick up the bill (which I was NOT going for) but because of my attitude he changed his mind. A few positive things to make note of..... their salsa is not spicy but quite flavorful, the hostess was pleasant and my husband said the restroom was new and clean. A few things are expected when newly opening, however this was just plain bad. The ambiance is good the staff is friendly.. we ordered an appetizer "corn esquites" which is described as off the cob corn mixed with sour cream, lime ,cotija cheese,dusted with chili powder and cilantro ! Not the case.. the corn is canned corn, no sour cream, barely sprinkled with anything .. not at all what we expected from a Mexican restaurant.. salsa tastes like it came from the local grocery store it's more of a pico than a salsa and you get a very small portion in comparison to the amount of chips you get.. and they charge you after the first basket..our meals were just meh.. refried beans were bland not seasoned.. rice was just ok.. you don't have a choice of corn or flour tortillas for any meal choice..I don't think we will go back.. I'm glad we gave it a try.. I know they are new, but they are not new to the business as they have another establishment in the area and the food there is great.Good Luck to them.. read more

I went in the other night with a friend expecting amazing food because of all the reviews, but when we went in, there were empty tables, and we were told there was a 30-40 minute wait, which isn't the end of the world but a little bothersome. We sat in the bar, and the staff and service were good, kind, and efficient, but the food took another 20-30 minutes to come out, and when it did, it was horrible. I got carne asada street tacos. The beans were like baby food and tasted like nothing, while the rice had a weird, overcooked texture. The tacos themselves were the most disappointing. The carne asada had no flavor, not any salt or pepper; it was pretty much chewing on cold, completely unseasoned steak. Along with that, there was a handful of cilantro on each taco--like, I'm talking almost a mouthful of cilantro. Other than that, there's a good ambience and good staff; hence the one star.
