My dinner today was by far the worst Mexican food I've ever had, full stop. From the burnt tortilla chips to the bland flavorless entrees, we both agreed it was terrible. The portions were large but we didn't even bother taking home the leftovers, they were just so bad. The lights were super bright and the table too close together. Add to all this the table of elderly people next to us that were cursing like sailors and a waiter who seemed like he was doing us a favor by taking our orders and the sum was a very poor experience. read more

I came to Torero's for the first time with the groom's party for a buddy's wedding. We got there around 12:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Surprisingly, the place was pretty dead! There weren't a lot of customers around which was surprising because we saw on the sign at the front of the restaurant - $2 MARGARITAS ON SATURDAY. I figured that alone would bring people in, so I was skeptical when I saw the sparse crowd. Luckily, the place turned out to be really good! The service was great - waiter came immediately to give us waters and chips. He left us momentarily so we could figure out our drink orders. He came and took those, and then did the same thing with our food. Everything came out promptly and was excellent. The fajitas were steaming when they hit the table and the sides that came with it were fresh and flavorful. You definitely got a lot of food for the price too. Side Note: The margarita was great and the queso we ordered for the chips was AWESOME. Highly recommended place! read more

Step inside and enter an authentic visual assault of bright Mexican colors. Reminds me a lot of the family restaurants in Phoenix. So do the tortilla chips--they're substantial and crunchy, not the fragile wisps that crumble at the mere sight of salsa. Speaking of which, the salsa is thick & chunky, and my wife says the heat grows as you eat it. The salsa would be the highlight of the meal. Between us my wife & I had a chicken burrito, chicken tostada, chile relleno, and machaca chimichanga. Everything was good, but not well-seasoned...just a bit bland. Even after topping mine with their "diabla" sauce--no real flavor or heat. Not bad--we've certainly had worse here in NC--just not great. On the plus side, the service was good and the portions huge. My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out after having been to La Cocina down the road to see if it compared. Sadly, it did not. It's a very loud atmosphere with not a lot of space between the tables and the food was just ehh. I ordered shrimp fajitas and the shrimp looked like it had been boiled, not charred like it should have been on a skillet. The server didn't speak great english either, so it was kind of hard to understand. However, they did not have my favorite Coronarita on the menu, but when asked, they made it for me! Props for that! But, probably better to check out other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more

Wonderful Mexican place. This place has been in Roxboro for a long time. I have always had great food and service every time I have been here for the last 10+ years at least. Their chips and salsa are excellent as well as their queso dip which my parents love. I have had their burritos, arroz con pollo, fajitas, combination plates, etc. I have loved all of them. In New York City, it is difficult to find good Mexican and so I love coming here when I come home. I think this is the best Mexican place in Roxboro and it is always our Mexican go-to. Not my favorite Mexican Place. Our chips were pretty well done and the salsa wasn't our favorite - not quite as chunky as we like it. However our food was good. The beef in the taco was seasoned well and tasted good. The cheese dip however was not my favorite. I do typically have higher expectations when it comes to the queso... Very enjoyable experience! The salsa could use some chunks of tomato but that is just my preference. Cheese dip was nice and hot, chips are crispy and fresh tasting. The service was faster than we were! ( I was busy looking around and taking pics instead of looking at the menu). Lots of seating. Bar is small but has a good supply of liquor . This place is like my second home. The staff are great and have always been super friendly. The fajitas are the best I've had anywhere across the US. The salsa is chunky and has the perfect amount of cilantro. Their cheese dip is just right. My first place to go when I'm hungry. Lunch is super reasonable and the portion sizes are massive! Great lunch today - good carnitas and taquitos and the refritos were great (just needed a little salt). Salsa was thin and deep red, which in my experience isn't a positive sign, but it was actually subtly delicious. Best iced tea I can imagine and my glass was kept full. Well, it's dinner time and I have a taste for Mexican food. Torero's Mexican Restaurant is the place tonight. First impressions were that the place seemed nice and clean. I was seated at a booth and the lady quickly brought chips and salsa which ended up being lackluster. My experience with chips and salsa is usually positive at most Mexican restaurants so I was caught off guard at the runniness and lack of flavor of this salsa. My waiter Salvador was very quick and to the point. No small talk with this hombre as he took my drink order, quickly brought it, then disappeared before I could thank him. I don't think he even stopped. Later he returned to take my order then quickly disappeared again. I ordered Tacos Al Carbón with Steak. I found myself needing another beer but Salvador was nowhere to be found. When he returned to the table with my food, and before he ran away again, I managed to grab him for another beer. The place wasn't busy at all so I'm not sure what his rush was, I kind of think he is into quantity of service and not quality. The tacos were decent but I can't speak well for the rest of the meal. The rice was so clearly not fresh and the beans needed to be re-refried with some flavor added this time. The salt, pepper, and tapatio was definitely needed on this plate. I ordered out from Torero's twice. Back in August of 2018 it was very good. I just ordered at the end of December 2018, it wasn't good. Nobody was happy with what they ordered. We ordered 6 dinners and two extra dips and only got one bag of tortillas which I thought was stingy. I will probably order again, hoping this was just a busy time and the next time will be better. read more

I have eaten at Torero's about once a week for years. Last night I was there again. I ordered a tamale beans and rice. When my order came there was no rice on the plate. The server said "we are out of rice". When I went to check out I expected a discount for 1/3 of the meal not served but no, I was charged the full price and told "that is the way it is". This is my favorite Mexican restaurant & there are several good ones within a reasonable driving distance from my home. I have been coming here for years & never been disappointed. The fresh made salsa for the chips is really good. It sometimes has a little more heat or cilantro than others, I guess it depends on who made it. The place is often very busy & the service is always fast & efficient. The menu is extensive & includes most any dish you could imagine. I am not much of a drinker but I do sometimes enjoy a frozen margarita or two. Prices are good & the place is always squeaky clean. The decor is nice too. Not much more you could ask for. read more

Gross food. I'm never going back. My husband's chicken quesadilla was so greasy it was wet and not edible and the chicken was tough and disgusting. The cheese enchiladas that I ordered were also wet and nasty. Everything was bland and unappealing. If you are looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Roxboro, do yourself a favor and just go across the street to La Cocina.
