We love Torchy's, but unfortunately this visit was a big disappointment. We tried the nachos for the first time, and if you're tempted to do so.... Give it a miss. Our food had clearly been sitting for a bit because the queso had started to congeal and some chips were already soggy when they hit the table. There was enough queso, but the other toppings were pretty sparse. The picture attached is my plate with no protein and extra pico and sour cream, which cost 30 cents each. Also note the large chunk of tomato in the pico- about an inch long and an inch wide. My husband had a similar chunk in his. He got his with brisket, and there wasn't a ton of tha either. It IS a large portion of chips and an acceptable amount of queso, but in general the dish was vastly overpriced. As always, the people were friendly and helpful, and the facilities were clean, but the nachos are a big no from us. Edit: I have bumped my review up from two stars to four. Torchy's reached out to us and DID make it right. While we had a bad experience, they took action to make it up to us, and that deserves to be commended! We do love Torchy's and will be back. Torchy's definitely lives up to the name, everything I tried leaned spicy, and there weren't many options that worked for my sensitive stomach/palette (I probably should've listened to the "Torchy's" warning sign lol). That said, the fried avocado is amazing. I'm obsessed with avocados and I've honestly never seen fried avocado offered like that before. I couldn't handle it on a taco with all the heat of sauces and pico, but on its own it was still super delicious and worth ordering. None of the other sauces I could try ended up working for me either, so I felt pretty limited unless I went kids menu. The restaurant itself wasn't too busy and it was pretty clean, but the staff seemed like they didn't really want to be there. When I asked questions to try to work around my diet limits, they weren't very willing to explain options. If you love spice, you'll probably have a great time here. If you're heat sensitive or have dietary limits, it might be a rough pick. If you like avocado, try that fried avocado! read more

Before my "yelping days" I actually went to this chain restaurant in Texas a couple years ago and fell in love! I fell back in love all over again in Kansas! We NEED a Torchy's in UTAH because I want their queso!!!! I review restaurants with my OAT method: O= Overall experience - It's a fast food ambiance with a walk up line to order food. The price per taco is $5-6, which is not horrible because they are quite stuffed. I would recommend getting 2 tacos, especially if you get chips and queso. A= Appearance - The food looked fresh! It's a small detail, but I love how they had fresh sliced lemons near the soda machine! T= Taste - I went with my family and we ordered quite a few things! House Rocks Margarita -- Yum! love some good salt around the rim! Hillbilly Queso & Chips -- AMAZING!! My family is a huge chips & queso fam. It's our go-to for almost any appetizer! I could have this for my entire meal and be content! Trailer Park Trashy -- 5/10, the sauce was good, but eating a fried chicken taco was weird. It kind of reminded me of a higher quality Snack Wrap from McDonald's. Fried avocado -- 7/10, super good flavor! I've never had a fried avocado, but would definitely get again!! I have been here twice and had a good experience both times. It is easy to order at the kiosks and even though it was busy our food came out very quickly. I had the democrat taco and a side order of guacamole. There is enough guac that I definitely should have shared. While everything is good, it is pricey for what you get. read more

This place has a fun menu, that integrates creativity and flavor for their taco offerings. Even their queso is unique as it has avocado in it. The food quality is not super consistent as we went twice last week and one of the tacos was order both visits (hogfather), but it did not taste as fresh and smoked the second time, but instead more dry. The prices are a little high for me to come often, but when I do, I typically enjoy it. They also have several TVs inside to watch the games and offer bingo nights as one of their special events. First timer here at a Torchy's Tacos on our way out west to Kansas. We stopped outside of KC in Olathe at this location. Being a first-timer, the guy at the counter explained how it worked and walked us through what some of the tacos were and gave suggestions - and very thorough I might add. I went with the 'Democrat' through gritted teeth and the chicken fajita tacos. The barbacoa was very good and seasoned very well. The cilantro and avocado were also nice touches to the corn tortilla - which isn't always my favorite. The chicken fajita taco was on flour tortilla and was good too - though the cheese blend was very pedestrian. We shared the queso with chorizo which was pretty spicy all things considered - but very good. Very busy. I've been hesitant to try Torchys due to the price, but I finally took the plunge today and it far exceeded my expectations! I ordered the brushfire (a jerk chicken taco served with a super spicy sauce and mango) and the tipsy chick (the corn was the standout here for me - creating a nice balance of flavors that was sweet and tangy). The two tacos were a great portion size, the flour tortilla was soft and fresh, meat was cooked well, and all of the toppings provided a balanced and complex taco. The food came out fast, and the decor was quirky and inviting. I'll definitely be back for the unique tacos and vibe. First time at a Torchy's, had heard a lot about it being great so we were excited to try it out. Though to be honest the 3 is because they had crushed ice and coke products. It was the biggest plus for us. Why would you even read more at this point. Though on the other hand if you aren't looking for authentic Mexican street tacos then you might actually like it. A big variety to choose from so maybe we just ordered wrong. Had the steak taco for one of my selections and it's like another review said. It was dry and kinda like yesterdays or last weeks skirt steak. I couldn't finish it. But the pork was really pretty good. Have I had better street tacos? Yes, by far but I wish I had ordered two of these. Corn tortilla had great flavor, moist pork with great green salsa topping and it was fresh. Sadly the steak taco tasted like we could have made it at home after leftover roast with a flour tortilla. The place has a great ambiance, sports playing on TVs, a bar too so if I liked the food I'd totally come back here but couldn't shake the quick serve feeling so we may not. Though we love good street tacos and so maybe we are high seekers. We are in Olathe suburbs and in or near a target not bad for a quick lunch in between games or something. The cost was legit too. This place really surprised me. In a good way. I was expecting it to be more like fast food and in a lot of ways, it is, but it's also pretty good. I've gotten the fajitas from here a few times now and while they are definitely Americanized for lack of a better description, they are still very good. I easily get 2 meals from them. I have only tried the Democrat taco which was also very good. The first time we stopped in and ordered to go, it was maybe 10 minutes before they closed and I thought we might not get great food because they would be shutting down, but they came through. The food was hot and didn't seem like something they scraped up at the end of a long day. The staff didn't make us feel bad for running in last minute either. We have only gotten our orders to go, but there's plenty of seating including around a small bar area where you could watch a game and get food and drink if you wanted. It's not really my kind of scene but if you like to do that, this looks like a good place for it. read more

It's rare that I get angry or upset when I eat out, but when I do, it is usually a guarantee that I will not return. I'm sad that I even have to write this, as the reviews are mostly favorable. Food: 1/10 Everything on the menu for the most part is a-la cart. They no longer have standard beef tacos like they did before. If you want anything that slightly resembles a beef taco, you can get a plan fajita. That's what I got. The meat was not tender and I kept having to really chew through the fajita beef. It got to a point that I did not finish it. It was cold as well, which is sad. My husband got two ranch hand tacos and refried beans and rice. The rice was mid, but the beans and tacos were good. Upon getting my plain beef fajita, I was upset I ordered one, but now I am glad I didn't. Plus, you have to ask for chips and salsa...trash. For two of us to eat here, it was nearly $30. I'm sorry but it's way overpriced for what it is. Customer service: I am going to be fair and not really give a rating because we did not rally interact with the staff. The person taking our order was decent, but not helpful in terms of helping us decide. At least convince me why I should eat here? I will say the bartender was outgoing and kept the patrons at the bar pretty entertained. There was zero diversity among the staff during this visit. It is above average on noise level because of the acoustics but the music was on point. The bar was pretty clean but I had to clean our table off, and our napkin dispenser was empty. Overall: 3/10 I will not be back. It's overpriced and my food was cold with meat that was not tender. In fact, their prices increased and they took some items off the menu.
