Pros: Tons of food from different cuisines you won't know where to start from. The taste is great for most dishes. My fav were the food straight off the grills. Cons: Only 2 types of sushi rolls. Drinks are not included. The Italian section was poor, maybe a few types of pizza.

the dessert of kings!

Tops exceeded my expectations. £6.99 for a lunch buffet seems to be standard fair in the Manchester area but this building is SO pretty inside - they have really glammed up the buffet experience! You pay at a till then get your barcoded ticket then you get seated, a process i'm sure is worthwhile when it's busy but on this slow lunchtime it felt like it could have been avoided. We got shown to our seats and you get a fun gold wand placed at your table so the servers know that your table will need cleaning at some point. If they had given us a gold wand each they would have a 5 star rating. Starting with the starters (ahem) I quickly plated spring rolls, lemon chicken, chicken satay, salt and pepper chicken wings (good thing I like chicken...), and sweet and sour pork. As I am not a lover of fish in any sense of the term the start selection was cut in half for me but that is what you expect. I also picked up some broccoli from the main station as I was trying to make sure I got some veggies onto each plate. Everything was warm and tasty, with the satay and lemon chickens having help yourself sauce, so everything was balanced as I like it. I really enjoyed the salt and pepper wings and went back for more later. Second plate for me was green thai curry which I added egg fried rice and green beans to and it was lovely, nice and spicy. The chicken did feel like it had been sat there a while but, in all honesty, it had, it's a buffet, you can't expect it to be fresh for your pickin's. It was at this point we realised that many of the stations were closed off until dinner time, something we were slightly suprised hadn't been explained to us, but, when we had finished, we decided that those stations would have been our downfall as the lunchtime selection was wide enough. Sweet and sour chicken, more green beans, broccolli, a small salad from the sushi bar, more spring rolls and salt and pepper wings, thai fried pork, and cashew chicken all came later on two more plates. The stand out dish for me was the vegetarian 'peanut vegetables' - there sadly wasn't much left of the dish but it involved mangetout, baby corn, and some absolutely delicious celery. So nice to find some vegetables amongst an otherwise heftily sauced and fried selection! Now, dessert. DESSERT. THEY HAVE SWEETS AND WHIPPY ICE CREAM PEOPLE. If that is the only thing of this review you take away, take it now and run with it. It was like having a flash back to Pizza Hut many a year ago. I had some lovely pineapple and watermelon too, but whippy ice cream laden with jelly tots, marshmallows AND chocolate peanuts? I know which I prefer. Attentive service and some stand out dishes. Some were below par but I often think that's the fun of buffet's - and there has to be something they're bad at! I now fancy a night where I visit both Tops and Taps in a night, just because. Oh the life of the unemployed.

Great choices especially when it is not busy

No branching out into other China Town restaurants for them. There is a huge range of dishes here with two lots of soup and a little bit of sushi. The interior is also pretty nice. There are big round tables for say 12 people which would be really good for parties. Lunch during the week is a really good bargain; you can eat a lot. Favourites include lemon chicken and crispy duck pancakes. Also, their take away carton looks really good value for city workers nearby who can't stop properly for lunch. The only downside is their desserts: ice cream, occasionally banana and pineapple fritters or buns. There is not much but you don't go there for the desserts you go there for the mains.

They always have a wide choice of dishes including crispy duck (which is not available in many such restaurants). When dining in some buffet establishments, you can be made to feel rushed, but that is definitely not the case here. The staff are attentive when you need them to be. When I have visited, the food has always been much higher quality than might be expected from a buffet restaurant and if you're like me, you can enjoy the accompaniment of a Chinese Tsingtao beer (or two) with your meal.

I was also excited when I walked in off grubby Portland St to find an elegant interior and smiling waiter. Bit disappointed then to find that the lunchbox is not some kind of Indian bento box featuring, I don't know, chutneys and the sound of a sitar playing or something. It's just the lunch buffet. But then again, that's not actually a bad thing in theory. In execution, none of it was particularly good and it was all strangely the same colour which was a bit off-putting. The poppadums were soft, which was just weird However, as it definitely didn't give me food poisoning I am likely to return given its proximity to my work and low price. For the money though, Kukoos is a much better choice in the area for Indian food at lunchtime. Dinner wise, I'd say Swadesh is probably pretty good.

Not too hard to do, since we stayed at a hotel just along the alley from Swadesh, but boy are we glad we decided on dinner here. The atmosphere was that of a pretty fancy restaurant where you'd think the staff and customers alike would be pretentious, but that wasn't the case at all. This place was really great, and the staff was great to boot. The prices were just perfect where we could all order various dishes and not feel as though we were going to break the bank by doing so. We started out with some poppadoms and chutneys as a started. Well pleased with that. After that, my boyfriend and I went with a vegetarian mix of goodies, including onion badjis and grilled halloumi. By the time we finished that, we knew we were in for a treat when the rest of our food came along. I stuck with ordering vegetarian dishes, which included saag paneer and an okra dish and my boyfriend ordered a chicken curry. We decided to share the lot and surprisingly, my boyfriend, who is a meat lover, really liked incorporating vegetarian in to the mix of dinner and plans to do it again when we go out. My bestfriend and his girlfriend ordered mixed vegetarian entrees and really enjoyed theirs as well. As we had been drinking a bit before we decided on dinner, we kept with water for the evening which the staff kept flowing without hesitation. All in all, it really was probably one of the better dinners I've had in a long time. I haven't had a good Indian meal in a few years, so I was really happy that we all enjoyed it so much. Should we find ourselves in Manchester again, this will be a must on the list of places to eat.

This spot had decent reviews and it was open for an early dinner so we stopped in. It was absolutely delicious and definitely hit the spot for what we were hoping to get. We split everything between 4 of us so we shared the short ribs, the shredded beef in spicy sauce, egg-fried rice, and then the pork dumplings, shrimp dumplings and red bean buns. The ribs and beef were delicious - a really tasty sweet and spicy sauce. The dumplings were great and served steaming hot. All of us were pleasantly full after the meal and it was all cooked hot and fresh. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. It's comfortable and cozy and a great spot to great delicious Chinese if you're ever in the mood - and it looks like they do a lot of take out as well as have tables to sit down and dine in.

Holy crap, was this place good, and my sheltered students agreed: Red Chilli's food is better than anything available at where we live in the States! I ordered the Gong Bao Chicken (Kung Pao, for those Yankees who often get Panda Express) and...wow. Not only was everything super fresh but there were flavors/seasonings in the dish that I had never experienced before. I would certainly come back here again if I return to the area. The negatives, however nit-picky: The entrees don't come with rice (though, that could be my American fatness talking). The side of fried rice we did order was pricey and good, not great. Also, for those who are used to a Chinese restaurant menu in America, you might find Red Chilli's menu to be a little limiting, as there's no General Tso's Chicken or something similar.

According to people in the know, this is a hangout for all the local soccer folks. We were greeted promptly at the door by the owner, Mr. Wing and told that they were slightly backed up and could we have a seat in the small waiting area - sure no problem. Well it turned out that this was just their ploy for trying to increase the sale of alcohol as the restaurant was only half full. Three different people stopped by during our short wait asking if we'd like to order a drink. We were shown to our table, a nice table in the corner. The restaurant offers lots of privacy as there are booth-like dividers between many of the tables. All the employees were Chinese and the wait staff all wear white gloves. The service itself was crisp, formal and efficient. They have a vast menu and we sampled 3 different items. Alas, I wish the quality and taste of the food measured up to the service. For my taste the food was bland and rather uninteresting. Not at all what we had expected when we were told this was the "best Cantonese Cuisine in Manchester."

We ordered some very nice starters, gorgeous spring rolls, prawn toast, i would highly recommend trying these. Also we had some duck in lettuce leaves, and some prawn in lettuce leaved. Cant remember exactly what but they were both fantastic. I had salt and pepper ribs, and i have never seen ribs like them before! they were massive, very weel seasoned and melt in your mouth. For main course we have sweet and sour chicken, and prawn in ok sauce. both with rice and both were fantastic. We spent way over an hour in here, and we will definitely return, as everything was top notch.

For those not familiar with rodizios, they bring as much meat as you would like to the table on skewers from the kitchen. Why Fazenda stands out is the meat is medium rare to rare (you can also order more well done), and I hate overcooked beef. I love their garlic steak, the fillet here and lamb. They also have a great salad bar, including sushi, a nice selection of cheeses and charcuterie, and a nice sesame seasoned quail egg. So why only four stars. First, it was very warm inside, uncomfortably warm. Not sure if it was intentional so people would not stay too long but it definitely detracted from the meal. Second, while the meat selection is good, it was very inconsistent. I was swamped when I started, probably five servers in three minutes. I tried to be careful and not over-indulge (too quickly) but then had to wait about 20 minutes for more food. I noticed this happened at a few table, again not sure if it is intentional or not. I also never was offered the fillet again. Food is good but the service and temperature need a little work for them to regain the fifth star I awarded Liverpool.

Last Monday I was out for a Yelp UYE and after a few drinks I had a sudden craving for food and especially Chinese food! I couldn't help myself from getting magnetically drawn into Chinatown on my walk back home. It was post midnight on a Monday so not many places were open but Great Wall which is right in the heart of Chinatown was shining bright (I mean the lights were on) and seemed likely to serve some food to a drunken girl craving for Chinese! The menu had quite a bit to choose from, lots of options on soups, curries, starters. I went for some steamed dumplings along with hot and spicy chicken soup (you can never go wrong with these) and rice with a regular Chinese curry. The waitress seemed to be rather friendly and welcoming even at that point of the night (impressive). The food appeared in front of me within less than 5 minutes of ordering (nothing makes a hungry woman more happy than that). The price is very very reasonable because for all that order we just paid 17 pounds (very pocket friendly just like their staff). The decor is not posh but it is not like a take away either (Good for a casual meal out). Verdict: Any place that serves decent food post midnight with a smile on their face is always worth a 4 star!
