Over the past two months, I have found myself attempting to go to Fresh Market more and more…read more Just made the best chimichurri steak tips of my life! Made the best Chimichurri tacos on the grill tonight courtesy of Fresh Markets meat counter and their amazing marinade!! So glad the gentlemen at the meat counter were so prompt and helpful while I was making my selections. I will definitely return for the meat counter. It was my husbands birthday, so I also grabbed a cake and some desserts for the fam -- the cakes are about what you would pay at Price Chopper, but in my opinion, they appear to be made with more attention to detail. If you're having a hard time finding birthday candles with numbers, they have a huge selection next to the cake counter and some Birthday cake pieces as well. The way to shop at this store is by learning the regular sale days. Tuesdays deals are: $5.00 12 inch pizza $3.99/lb Chicken Breast $5.99/lb ground beef $5.00 rotisserie chicken Fridays deals are: 2 for $5 burgers Each week they choose a different fresh deal, so you'll likely find a deal for $5.00/lb meat. This evening it was carne asada chicken breast cutlets. Other elements that I really enjoy is that their olive bar has Dolmas!! It's the only one that I know of that carries them in the area. Never realized how difficult it is to find specialty food until I moved back to Saratoga from Texas. Plus, my kiddos love going with me for the candy by the pound jars -- they really love getting to make their own selection and mix. While I do find the market to have steeper prices, I do enjoy the convenience, but I have to shop the deals.

What stores do you know that sell the obscene amount of milk I need for my kid, chicken, ribs,…read morebacon, eggs, cheese (even goat sometimes, but no feta), flour, corned beef hash in a can, the best produce I've found in the general vicinity (although, if you know a farmers' market, please point me there so I can support them too), grass seed, toys, toothpaste, camping supplies, gardening supplies, cards, books, cookware, tomato plants, port wine cheese (my father in law wanted it), AND has nice folks running the joint? Charlie John's is the only one I've found...anywhere, I think. It's one-stop shopping for everything you need, and almost everything you want. (Nobody's perfect, and their yogurt selection could have more whole milk options for my kid.) As an added bonus, they've also got a beer cave. This walk-in cooler may not have all the obscure IPAs you're looking for (and it actually might, I'm not into IPA so I wasn't looking for it) but it does have all the lawnmower beers I can drink, as well as the spiked seltzers the kids are into these days. Seriously though, the staff is super nice, and didn't blink when I bought literally two carts full of groceries (we were really running low after we hid for two weeks upon relocating up here so we wouldn't accidentally infect anyone). I'm a fan, and we'll be back on a regular basis.

Sadly, we left with nothing. The parking lot is small and in high demand, so plan accordingly. Upon entering the store, we both immediately looked at each other when we saw the condition of this place. The look said: "Are we really sure we want to do this?" It looks like it hasn't been updated in decades. Shabby, somewhat grimy, and just beat up. Fridge with the eggs inside was stained and dirty. Aisles are incredibly narrow, and we found ourselves getting jammed up when other customers were coming from the opposite way. We started to load our cart anyway, grabbing necessities. Prices weren't exactly chopped. Rather, things were pricey. Where it all went truly wrong was when we got to the meats. I intended to purchase fresh sausage and, to my surprise, none of it had ANY dates on it. Upon closer inspection, they had some frost of them, as if they had been frozen, thawed, and just put out. They were leaking fluids everywhere. I asked my wife to check for dates, and she could find none either. This was just scary. We put our items back and took the drive to Wal mart and were glad we did. Is this place good in a pinch? I guess so, if you're willing to roll the dice. Corner stores in the NYC area present better than this place.
