First of all, a word about Bryan Jack my driving instructor, who i have say is quite amazing at what he does. I think the beauty about his method is that he has a wonderful eye for details and looking back at my lessons in retrospect i can now see how he relentlessly worked on specific areas of my technical abilities that needed attention. I had been driving in India for almost 8 years prior to taking my first lesson with Topgear. I was aware of the fact that i had bad habits, and it only took that first lesson where Bryan had identified them and he made sure that i had them cleared before the test. I can only imagine how very difficult it would be for an instructor to try and sort out 8 years worth of technical issues in a span of 8 lessons, while also covering all other aspects of safe and correct driving required to pass the test. Apart from the wonderful professional that he is, Bryan is also extremely friendly and induces a lot of confidence in you. He knew when i was ready for the test and kept telling me that i would pass no problem. That really helped in building a lot of confidence before the test. I work full time on weekdays and Bryan was very accommodating to give me evening or some saturday lesson times to suit my needs. Thanks to Bryan and Topgear I passed my test in the first attempt. Passed my test with David form topgear driving tuition, his knowledge and experience made me feel at ease and helped build my confidence. I had had lessons years before with a different driving school, however didn't have a great experience. David and topgear are totally different, I looked forward to my lessons which were reasonable priced and in fact cheaper than all the big names. The lessons were structured and yet flexible to adapt to my learning style. After each lesson, I actually felt that I could do this, don't get me wrong there were times where I seemed to make loads of mistakes. This was never an issue with David, he never made me feel bad but would focus on these for the next lesson. Lessons were always on time and I was never let down or had a lesson cancelled. I may not have passed first time (nerves gets us all at times) but thanks to Davids patience and encouragement I got there in the end. I started lessons the last week in August and passed in February, taking into account the Christmas period, I think that's good going. I had Johnny as an instructor and passed my test, with only one minor fault, first attempt. I got in touch with Top Gear hoping for a package of lessons that could be tailored to someone in my position who had decent experience of driving although from a good few years back, having taken lessons seven or eight years ago but not seen it through. Carol at Top Gear Driving School is an extremely competent, fair and friendly driving instructor to learn with, and I would highly recommend taking lessons with her. When I started lessons 8 weeks ago, I had been learning for a few years but had already failed two tests. I had developed some lazy, bad habits but Carol was very sharp at picking these up quickly and helping me to readdress them in preparation for the test. The test is very difficult but I feel that with her help, I successfully changed my whole attitude to driving which had previously let me down in tests, and for this reason, I passed on my first attempt after taking lessons with her. Carol is a really fun person to be around and I looked forward to my lessons with her. We had a good laugh, and the only downside to passing is that I'll miss our lessons together! However, she is also very professional, consistently punctual, and has a keen eye for detail and some original teaching techniques that I had not previously come across but that helped me enormously. She is very patient but never patronising in correcting even the smallest faults. I booked my test at extremely short notice and in another area of Glasgow which I was unfamiliar with but John was able to fit in additional lessons in the test area to increase my confidence and awareness of test routes. I would highly recommend John Fergie as an instructor as I managed to complete my practical driving test in less time than I had imagined and did not feel under pressure to continue with lessons once I felt able to undertake the test. I found John a friendly, encouraging and professional instructor who was able to make me feel relaxed during lessons. I passed my test on the 27th of April after quite a few attempts. My instructor was Johnny, who is great. I am 34 and have been taking lessons on and off since I was 17! This is the first time however that I have actually got to test standard and it's all thanks to Johnny's patience and learning techniques. I was a bit a nervous learner; however Johnny adapted the lessons to reflect this. Nothing was ever too much trouble. I didn't pass first time, second or third (there was a few more after that), but after every test we went over my sheet and focused on any issues for my next lessons. He arranged mock test and after much protesting from me came out on my last test, which I passed. It actually helped having him in the car. Although I had taken a few attempts to pass, I did start lessons in August along with my partner (who also passed using topgear) and passed in April, so I'm very pleased. So here I am just returning from cloud 9 where I have been for the past 3 weeks since passing my driving test. It wasn't just a test. I call it our own 6 week miracle. I spoke to Johnny of Topgear driving after about 8 months of being frustrated by different instructors. I said to him I didn't have much more money to spend on driving and thus needed to get it over with asap. He told me to book a test and off we started with the instruction. Johnny showed me the simplest ways to do manouvres that had failed me several times before. Within 3 weeks I felt more in control of my driving. It really helps to have a chatty relaxed instructor! Before taking lessons with Johnny Robertson of Topgear Driving I had been taking lessons with a very uptight instructor who made me very nervous. Johnny was the complete opposite of this. Totally relaxed guy who made me feel very comfortable at the wheel & extremely patient putting up with my terrible driving until he very quickly honed my skills to the point where I passed my test. His explanation of maneuvers is very clear & he breaks them down to their component parts, making them easy to understand & quickly master. When providing feedback on your driving, Johnny is never critical & explains your areas in need of development in a very positive manner, leaving you feeling confident & motivated to get it right at your next attempt. On your test day, Johnny will make sure that your maneuvers are up to scratch & is very reassuring if you are at all nervous. Today I passed my test in the Anniesland area with one minor. Many thanks to Top Gear and particularly John Fergie! Due to the nature of my work I only had a short period of time to get lessons and do my test, and Top Gear ensured that they were able to work around my time restraints. John was always punctual, arriving a few minutes early to make sure we got as much lesson time as possible. He is a calm and encouraging instructor and was always happy to help with any questions I had. John was never critical of any mistakes made, only focused on what caused the mistake and how we could fix it. His teaching methods are clear and straight forward, meaning I was able to fix problems that I had had in the past in no time. John was also willing to help me with anything I wanted to learn in addition to what is required to pass a test e.g. country driving. I began my driving lessons in July 2012 and have recently passed my test through the guidance of the instructor Bryan Jack. I cannot thank or praise him and TopGear enough for their work. Driving was something which did not come naturally to me and I was a very negative person with extremely low confidence. I work away a lot and had limited time to learn to drive. I looked at a few driving schools teaching in the West End and settled on Top Gear. I had never driven before and was 26 when I decided it was time. for someone who couldnt imagine themselves driving in the city I was brought up to test standard in a short space of time by the instructor (at that time Johnny who i cant speak highly enough of) by friendly and enjoyable lessons. Top Gear went out of their way to help me by being flexible with dates and times and didnt try to over sell me lessons. Before I knew it I was driving in the city (i'm from a rural area) and was able to pass my test. I'm 17 and I passed my driving test first time after only 15 lessons and 22 and a half hours of driving in total thanks to Topgear Driving Tuition Limited and my driving instructor Johnny. Johnny was key to me passing my test as he is a very good instructor and took time to teach me the correct and safe way to drive. There was a couple of times Johnny would put his foot down (on the brake I might add) but even when he had to stop the car he was clam and would explain to myself why he felt the need to take over the car which is a good help as it means you become more aware on the road. I want to recommend John Fergie for helping me pass my test with just 3 minors! I passed my test 3 days ago thanks to him, he is such a fantastic instructor & you couldn't meet a nicer guy. John was always on time for our lessons & went the extra mile for me, he always made sure I was comfortable enough even if it meant him being cold! After my lessons I always felt the hour went quick as there was never a dull moment with fun & engaging conversation during lessons & if I made a mistake he helped me fix it but he always remained calm even if I wasn't. I started driving lessons with Topgear in April 2011 and passed my driving test by January 2012. I have to credit this to David my ever patient driving instructor who I can't thank enough for giving me the confidence to drive, and to enjoy the experience. David allowed me to progress at my own pace but also pushed me when I needed it, and if he hadn't I wouldn't have applied for my test or passed. David showed me practical techniques and reference points. Demonstrated how to tackle roundabouts and to drive at speed without going into a panic and generally, helped me approach all parts of driving in a straight forward (non scary) way. I would recommend Topgear as a driving school and particularly David who aside from being good at his job was also a lovely person and when you are sat with them for 2 hours a week that tends to be important. read more

After failing my first driving test with a different driving instructor, I decided to go with Carol at Top Gear. I just wish that I went with her in the first place, as I wouldn't have wasted so much money and had a failed test behind me. I gained so much more driving confidence with her. Carol makes you feel really at ease, she explains everything thoroughly so there can be no doubt about not understanding anything. I found it great that she demonstrated the manouvere first of all before letting you try it (my previous instructor didn't do thatmmmm, maybe that's why I failed !!) She is extremely patient, very easy going, so if you're a nervous learner, then she is definitely the one for you. Can't recommend enough.
