Michael Brierton has been teaching drivers on the southside of Glasgow and East Renfrewshire for well over twenty years and he is an absolute pro. He's always on time, calm, thorough, and cheerful. He will put you at ease and will not be phased in the slightest if you do something scary like drive up on the curb (not that I ever did that...*cough*). "Just don't do that on the test" he'll say cheerfully and you keep on driving. When directing you to do something he speaks in the language of the examiners so on the day you'll be well used to their particular verbage. He is also extremely consistent with his directions, repeating the same things again and again until you are doing them automatically (for example, whenever you stop at a light, put on the handbrake and go into neutral. Instead of what I was doing before, which was siting on the biting point).
Michael's lessons are good balance between learning safe driving and preparing for the test. He both explains what the test will be like as well as general rules of the road. Every time you do something incorrect he'll explain what you should have done in both contexts--general safety and the test. He teaches on his manual car, is available evenings and Saturdays and it's £10 for the first lesson and £23/hour after that. This is a bit more than you can get at some of the big driving schools, but I've consistently heard from people who got a cheapie instructor and they are always terrible--late, inattentive, and providing no input. Every lesson with Michael is instructive and leaves you slightly better at driving than the last. I would highly recommend him for anyone needing lessons in the southside/East Renfrewshire area. read more
