Our family had a great experience with TopCops. Their instructors are all Colorado police officers, so the education and training are excellent! And they're all great role models, and you can tell they genuinely care for their students and community. I don't understand why some of the reviews on here complain about customer service and communication. We always got emails from them confirming the next steps, appointments, and class instructions. Expensive, but then they make more money by making things difficult to complete by burying required forms in emails with a ton of text and links, sent a week and a half prior to a class with no reminders, which would be okay IF the forms were available on their Student Portal, where you have to do everything else - but they aren't. And then tell you if you don't pay their nearly $100 "cancelation" fee (because they cancelled you from the class for missing the required in tiny print form) that same day your child will be removed from the program. Oh and you have to pay cash (how? no instructions) or they charge even more money to use a card. I'm sure there are better programs to work with, but they have our money now. read more

My son just finished hours with this company, took his drivers test with them today, and is officially licensed. I can't say enough about their service. Long story short, there have got to be better driving school options out there, even though this one wasn't terrible or anything. But for the money you pay it sure feels like you should get a better product. 1. Email communication is over the top to the point of being confusing. Really long emails and multiple emails repeating mostly the same information, but with just a few small conflicting details (the location of the in-person test, for one example). Just felt like all of it could've been greatly streamlined. 2. Their websites are all kind of confusing, too. We dug around to try and clarify a few things and just decided to call instead (and then the kid on the phone gave us some incorrect information). We paid for the premium course and at that time my wife selected a date and time for the test, but we couldn't find any confirmation of that. Or if my daughter needed any identification for the test. Or much of anything. 3. On the aforementioned phone call I was told my daughter could take the test and leave as soon as it was scored, and specifically that she wouldn't have to sit around. But that exactly what happened. She finished the test along with everyone else in much less than a half hour and then had to sit for another hour and a half+ until they scored all of the tests or something. What a waste of time. As you can see, none of these are particularly big deals by themselves, but it adds up to a pattern of poor organization and communication. read more

This school was very accommodating, from helping with registration and explaining laws and regulations. My son was very open to their training and enjoyed the last 6 hours before his test. Went in a circle with the owner who was unwilling to resolve our complaint besides a useless apology. Top Cops took our money without giving us a list of what they would work on with our child. The only way to find out what they would work on was to pay more money for a class she had taken already out of state. I would never recommend this company. We used TopCops for our 15 year old permit holder for her behind the wheel 6 hours, as well as her final test before getting her license. The process was painless, and I wish we had also used them for the 30 hour online instructional class because then everything would have been with one vendor. The BTW teachers were amazing and made my daughter feel extremely comfortable, making driving with a stranger for 3 hours at a time much more manageable. Our youngest of three, just completed his TopCop's class. By far, this instruction was the best I have seen compared to my older two children. Even my 26 year old daughter heard some of the instruction via zoom and was impressed! The shared driving experiences straight from Sergeant Cabot's mouth was invaluable. Made us pre pay for our sons final driving test before letting us schedule it and then told us they couldn't get us in for over a week which was understandable during this crazy time. But then we found another company that could get my son in a week earlier so he could get his license sooner. We tried to cancel our appointment with top cops and now they will not refund our pre-payment. Poor and shady business practice. I has a package of two 3-hour lessons, plus test. I'm older than 21 so that's all I needed. The instructors in the lessons were very professional and friendly, took me through most possible driving scenarios, and made me confident I can pass the test - which I did. read more

My son enjoyed the class, so that was a plus. However, this program cries out for administrative organization. "Dr. Groom" and her staff would rather insist on their infallibility (and/or hang up on me on the phone) than admit shortcomings in their processes. SUGGESTION: Have parents complete all paperwork up-front (when registering) rather than have last-minute odds and ends (contract/waiver, proof of insurance) imbedded in book-length emails. (Note, if you don't figure it out in time, they cancel your session and charge you $90.) Another suggestion: short, clear emails to parents with 1-2-3 directions, rather than CYA tomes. Am feeling super frustrated with this program, considering its cost. I thought Top Cops was the premier program, but I will look into Longmont Driving School for my next kiddo. read more

Very happy with their availability and flexibility. Mom and dad screwed up and didnt get his BTW experience scheduled with the school that our son took his drivers ed with. So we called Top Cops and got our son his BTW and drivers test inside of a month before he was supposed to get his license. Officers were awesome!! Avoid this driving school. TopCops is a money grab operation. TopCops has defaulted on a contract and refused refund. I have signed up my son for the 30 hour in-person TopCops Classroom Training. Classroom instruction fees of $220.38 were paid on the same day. Two weeks later TopCops has sent out an email notification that classroom instruction was canceled. Then, TopCops has advised on alternative ways to offer instruction, none of which were acceptable in our situation. For example, TopCops has offered to move my son to online instruction, with is a $56 cheaper option, however flatly denied even partial refund. Subsequent requests for a full refund for the cancelled instruction course were outright rejected by TopCops. I understand that we're in a pandemic and businesses have to make tough choices but still... this is not acceptable. I run a small business myself and I never treat my customers like this. Canceled service = full refund. Period. Additionally, during our email correspondence Sgt. Cabot has displayed extremely negative, combative and dismissive attitude. Based on this I will be advising my friends and family against dealing with TopCops and Sgt. Cabot. Given the fact that TopCops business is dedicated to teaching minors I find this attitude towards customers especially troubling. There are better driving schools and better run businesses. The all-inclusive program's steps were easy to maneuver, they had multiple driving times and locations for scheduling flexibility, and I have no doubt my kids are more competent and confident new drivers because of it. Complete lack of customer service. They changed the time my son was scheduled for behind the wheel and never notified me. Then charged us $90 for missing the session. The person that answered the phone was not helpful so I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was very inconsiderate, rude, and unwilling to admit they made a mistake. She would not reduce nor eliminate the fee. There are plenty of other driving schools with excellent customer service, this is not one of them! read more

I agree with the earlier reviewer - TopCops did a fabulous job and we were very impressed with their program. It is a practical hands-on approach and the instructors are invested in making the teens into good drivers. Especially like to Thank Officer Glenn Davis for his good work. He was only with my son for 3-hours of Behind-the-Wheel but the wisdom he communicated is timeless (most of our drives involve some variation of 'Glenn says....'). Horrible communication from the owners from the start of the process until the end. I had to *prove* to them that they had cashed a check I sent. They called saying I owed money and I had to show them my bank account statement. Then their web site indicated that my daughter had completed her 30 hours required for her to get her permit. We went to DMV and she passed the test only to learn that she had apparently only completed 28 hours, per Top Cops. (What everyone needs; a wasted trip to the DMV, especially since I had to take off work to take her. Not to mention a very disappointed 15 YO who was eager to get her permit.) We received conflicting information from them very time we talked. When I asked why an email said one thing and she was telling me another on the phone, her response was, "Oh, that's an email that we send to everyone; that information doesn't apply to your daughter." OMG. We paid a lot of money for one big, unnecessary headache. Would not recommend to anyone. We will be going somewhere else for my son, that's for sure. read more

We paid around $600 for VERY DATED driver's education videos and are very unsatisfied. They are keeping our money because THEY CAN. We didn't know about the pandemic or how confusing & cumbersome this school's information would be. Their online course rejected our logins, we had to call Amy/Mel 6 different times to work out kinks. Ended up bothering them just so we could keep the program going while they had in person classes. Never had this much trouble with any education program, cumbersome directions, contradictory information! They need to care enough to find out from a parent if it's well organized, easy to follow or if the information presented is overwhelming with detail, easy to miss a step in the process of this driver ed... it's not good. They are putting all the blame on me, the parent who had to keep asking questions when their program was confusing and not working. Buyer beware. The online course was a JOKE...COMPLETELY DATED, sob stories, and lost the interest of our son who has good judgement and manners. How many minutes of that course was actual driving instruction vs. videos of parents and loved ones left behind of driving accidents? Some was effective and okay, but it seemed to be the whole focus and was out of balance. It was a turn off and overkill. PANDEMIC, BEHIND THE WHEEL- LET'S TALK COMMON SENSE: 3 hours, 3 ft apart... X 2 sessions = 6hrs together in a car with whatever the officer choses to wear...common sense? TopCops has the upper hand and will not issue any refund just because you're not happy with your child in this situation. They don't care if the Cop's mask is N95 or not. Also, they will penalize you $90 if you don't reschedule your child's BTW within 48 hours. What if your child presents CoVid symptoms the night before or morning of their scheduled BTW? Will some parents not want that penalty and put their student in the car anyway? How about everyone's safety here and the financial incentive to either keep or reschedule the appt.? TopCops has the upper hand and they will keep your money. :( I've tried to talk to them and they are bothered with me and won't budge. They have our money and are rather rude about it. Who is wiping these cars down? The student or Top Cops? Amy & Mel are nice, but be prepared for fast talking answers to your questions and possibly contradicting and confusing information that you feel so bad to make them work so hard to clarify, again, and again. read more

This is the best decision we made for our teenage driver. The officers that teach your kids are all very nice and our son liked learning from them. He was far more prepared for driving than I was when I got my license. I believe that this program is creating safer roads and better drivers in a huge way. Thank you! This is a wonderful concept, but terribly executed. We used Top Cops for the behind the wheel training and the test. The first driving instructor was friendly, but it was a waste of time. After receiving a 30 minute lecture (that only he gives) we drove for 15 minutes before taking a 30 minute break at a 7-11 where he talked ad nausiem with another instructor. After that we drove for a little while more before he had me drive him to a vape shop so he could run an errand. I had been driving for over a year and though little of this but he then told me that he does this all the time, including with kids that do need the class. Additionally, the one thing that he corrected me on while driving was based off of misinformation from the Top Cops class. The second drive went only slightly better. We practiced for about two hours on the highway before we went to a parking lot to work on other skills. I requested to do parallel parking since we live near Boulder and Denver, and the instructor was unwilling. After some time doing that, he had me do a slalom through cones, the goal being getting as close as possible, both forward and reverse. During the duration of this skills practice I was talked to in an angry tone and if I did anything the slightest bit wrong (in a completely empty parking lot) he would slam on his brake, then say stop, which only added to my frustration. Finally there was the test. This was the most positive thing that there was, and I did well, except I broke a traffic law due to how poorly things were explained at the beginning of the test. All this is to say nothing of the absurd cost to be an chauffeur that gets yelled at. Additionally, cancellations are subject to a $90 fee, despite the fact they already have our money. I truly hope that this is improved on and I hope that they do succeed, but my experience was anything but positive. read more

My son enjoyed learning from officers, but he was given some incorrect information. The most significant was that when he got his permit, he could only drive with the supervising adult, not another family member. This was significant because he has a sibling so we started making arrangements to accommodate that rule, which is incorrect. The laws are very complex, and there were a few other items that were incorrect, but we learned to read all of the literature and ask the DMV. Also, you can set up an account on the website, but you cannot access the certificate to print it. If you need a copy, they charge $15. My daughter completed another program that was much less expensive and we were very happy with that school. read more

Top cops was through but stressful. The guy that taught the first 2 days was very boring and monotonous. They make a lot of promises they don't keep. They also told my daughter that there was 75 questions on the test instead of only 25 just to make them "study harder". Save your money and just do a dmv class it's not worth it. read more
