Signed a contract and paid 1/3 of total cost down payment on 5/17. I was told the project would only take a few weeks. The windows needed to be installed before siding, but there were multiple delays getting windows measured, ordered, delivered. Windows were finally delivered to our house on 7/22. The skylight/roof was fixed on 7/26. Window crew was slow and sloppy. Windows were "done" in a few days in early August, but then they took weeks to get the trim installed. One bright spot was the siding crew. Walter and crew tore off the old siding and wrapped the house in a day. They also paid attention to details like light fixtures, wiring, etc., and changed out some siding after I changed my mind about a minor detail. They also returned flower pots and other landscaping items when finished. They even came out on a Sat. to install new gutters. Most of the work was done in by mid-August, but it took until October to finish a few details. We had a new front door installed, pole wrapped, etc. Once they were done(over 5 months later), they tried to charge us for the windows twice(maybe a mistake, but the siding price was as much as the windows/siding original estimate), and also charged us for multiple items they said were covered. Get it in writing, I guess.

I can't say enough about their level of quality in workmanship and attention-to-detail. The carpenter who was at our house daily was excellent, contentious, and very clean, which made living through the project easy. The addition affected the front façade fo the house and yet no one knows that the space is not original. Intelligent and sensitive design is matched by meticulous attention to detail in the construction. They also cleaned up the project every night so that we did not feel like we were living in a work zone. We still get compliments on this project that was finished a few years ago. First, the good (actually, the great.)...these guys hire the best laborers I've ever dealt with. Hard working professionals who are perfectionists and don't cut corners. SMC also does a great job of following up on the work that is done and fixing the little things a normal home owner maybe wouldn't notice. Second, dealing with SMC's employees face to face is fantastic. Every employee I met with was friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they were great with my two young kids! The problem was communicating with them when they are not on site. So many of my texts and voicemails went unanswered for days. It got very frustrating. My contractor also did a poor job of communicating to my wife and I why delays were happening. All of this poor communication was especially disappointing because we expressed to our contractor prior to even selecting SMC that communication was key to our decision making. We liked our contractor and liked that they had an app that keeps you updated on statuses, but the app turned out to be not helpful at all and, as I mentioned, the contractor failed in some of his roles. Overall, we come away from this 5-6 month residential project happy with the outcome but frustrated a few too many times throughout the process.

We had the most amazing experience with Kim and Prima Construction. We had been planning a kitchen…read moreremodel since we bought our home, and the wait was worth it. We remodeled our basement in 2020 and had a good experience with that company, but we were not happy with the Covid protocols (or lack thereof) of the other company or their long-term responsiveness. Prima was incredibly respectful of our home and fantastic about communication. The planning process was impeccable, and I felt like we were listened to and the design completely reflects what we wanted and what was most practical for our space. During the project Kim sent weekly updates about what was accomplished and what was planned for the next week. The project stayed on schedule in spite of a couple Covid brushes and a lot of snow! I also love supporting a woman-owned business, but if that's not your thing, pick Prima because of the quality of the work and the stellar communication and project management. We opened up a load-bearing wall and added the custom bench, and everything else basically stayed in the same place (except added a pantry) but was completely replaced and updated.
