I am very grateful to have found Top Down Dental. Their diagnostic, assessment, and treatment techniques are much more advanced than any that I have experienced with general dentists. As a woman in my 70s with some other health problems, I feel that they take my entire medical situation into consideration. Even my cardiologist is pleased that I have found this practice. I have been seen by both Dr. Neheywandian and Dr. Alan, as well as by the dental hygienists and assistants. They are all knowledgeable, good communicators, kind and patient, as well as being skilled practitioners. They go out of their way to explain the diagnostic findings, and help me get through some unpleasant procedures as easily as possible, during and afterwards. As a 37-year old, there's nothing worse than hearing you need an extraction. So, why the 5-star review you might ask? I just established care with Dr. Nancy. In fact, today was my first comprehensive exam. In that process, Faye, her RDA, took the time to actually listen. I explained a sensation of sensitivity and pressure over my sinus since my cavity fill at another dental office. I also told her that my lymph nodes seemed inflamed. I initially came for a second opinion and thought we were going down a crown vs root canal path. However, an impromptu CT scan revealed I've had an infection brewing in my sinuses for 3 months! I know I'm in good hands because she utilizes tools like ozone and recommends holistic things like probiotics alongside her treatment plans. Liliana also took the time to explain the process and cost of saliva testing for bacteria, not to mention she offered me a financing option to allow me to take care of myself without feeling burdened and overwhelmed by the financial cost of my treatment. Avoid this dentist at all costs. Worst care I have ever experienced and received. I came in for a consultation because I was curious about the holistic approach to dentistry and treating their patients by assessing the root cause. First off, I didn't even see Dr. Nancy - it was some other dentist and I was not informed; this was already a red flag. They went through the normal procedures of xrays, photos, and asked me tons of questions. It was not until one hour in that I was finally seen by the actual dentist. I was told that I had early signs of periodontal disease and all my gums were inflamed. They probed each tooth and said I had 7's - which is unheard of for someone my age. They recommended a bacteria test ($200+) which I took not thinking of what it could really mean for me. They were incredibly aggressive with their treatment recommendations; saying I needed to do four sessions of deep cleaning + laser treatments. Clearly they weren't even looking at the root cause - they were proposing treatments for me that was robotic, by the books, and with profit in mind. Made me feel extremely horrible for having so many "problems" and even said I would be a good "perio candidate." Did not make me feel better but instead put me down, and kept shaking their heads when they saw the condition of teeth. Front desk coordinator was extremely rude and made me feel bad for considering two dentists at the same time. Said that I had a decision to make to choose one dentist because she claimed it would be too complicated with the insurance. Very persistent on scheduling my cleanings even though i was still making a decision. I just saw my dentist of 15+ years and told her everything about what Top Down Dental did to me. She redid my X-rays, probed my teeth, and assured me that I did not have gum disease and that most my gums showed during probing was 4s, NOT 7s like this dentist told me. My dentist reassured me that I have nothing to worry about that the deep cleanings in her office would suffice - I'm glad I followed my gut with this place and did not continue with treatment. read more

I needed to have tooth extractions done on two previous root canals. I chose Dr. Nancy Nehawandian because she listed herself as a holistic and a Biological Dentist. Once the teeth were extracted I decided on going with a bridge to fill in the missing teeth. While doing the work on the upper bridge, Dr. Nehawandian managed to nick the nerves on the teeth on either side of where the bridge was going, Because both teeth's nerves were damaged, Dr. Nehawandian had thereby killed both of those teeth that had originally been two perfectly healthy teeth. Stay away from Top Down Dental!!! They ruined the upper right side of my mouth plus there has been numerous complications and problems with those two killed teeth as a result of her incompetance. I ended up doing more research and found a "TRUE" Biological Dentist (trained by Dr. Hal Huggins) in Las Vegas (Dr. Jim Wright at Four Seasons Dental Spa). Their goal is to save teeth at all costs. After the debacle that happeded in my mouth at Top Down Dental, Dr Wright has taken care of me and I can't say enough good about him! I was so impressed by Dr Wright that I've repeatedly spent the time and money to travel to Las Vegas to get my teeth and mouth fixed by him. read more

I have no idea how anyone could have had a horrible experience with Dr. Nehawandian based on my experience. Background - I've been seeing a functional medicine doctor for chronic gut, fatigue and hormonal issues so looking for a holistic/biological dentist was at the top of my list since the mouth is a crucial part to the gut. When I first visited Top Down Dental they were incredibly thorough with their examination and I decided to do a bacterial test to get more tangible results. She recommended that I do a deep cleaning/laser treatment because based on her findings, I have the beginnings of periodontal disease which is hereditary in my family. I started second guessing myself because the treatment plan wasn't cheap and truthfully, I felt nervous about how much the deep clean could hurt because of past dental experiences. I went and got a second opinion at another dentist that shared they thought I needed just a standard cleaning. I felt relief yet a nagging feeling because I've been through so much with my health and something was telling me to share this with Nancy and her team. I also hadn't gotten my bacterial results back yet. I was more than just pleasantly surprised with the level of care and integrity I experienced connecting with them. I shared my concerns about the price and the second opinion I received and had an in-depth conversation with Nancy. She shared (both on the phone and the results in email) that the bacterial level I had was way above safe levels and probably in my bloodstream. Additionally, the reason she recommended the laser treatment was because it would kill the bacteria, close the doorway to bacteria getting into my gums and bone and when the machine she uses measured the pockets in my gums they were a level 5 (the other dentist said 4 but that was eyeballing it.) I was so grateful to have both a qualitative and quantitative approach to my dental health. Not only that, but both dental hygienists that did my treatments were PHENOMENAL (thank you Julie and Alexis!) and while there were moments of pain, I can tell that my body is learning that it's safe to go to the dentist and I am even looking forward to going back. There is a noticeable difference to my breath, my body and my resolve to take better care of my teeth and gums. They also made it easy to pay for the treatment by offering health credit loans with ample time to pay back. As someone who currently is working minimally because of my health issues, this was incredibly helpful. I know that investing in myself in this way was worth it. I have to second the review that mentioned BUYER BEWARE! Nancy and her team are terrible. I had a small crack in my tooth and was pushed into getting a crown by Nancy, so she could make more money off of me. She did a terrible job and caused me to need a root canal, not to mention the horrible constant pain. I have three friends that have also had botched procedures by Nancy. In my case, she damaged a nearby tooth because she was sloppy during the procedure and not paying attention. I have the before and after x-rays to prove it. I truly believe a place with dim lights and message chairs is not where you want to go for quality work. Top Down Dental is nothing but a gloried Message Envy with incompetent staff. If you want a massage and movie go to Top Down Dental but if you want a real dentist who will perform HONEST and quality work choose a different place. I had a horrible experience with Nancy. I had a crown put in and I'm now in constant pain. I went to another dentist who found two sections of my neighboring teeth taken off. We compared x-rays prior to the crown placement and after to confirm that in fact my neighboring tooth was damaged. Nancy was so rough during the procedure. She never mentioned that in the process she damaged my other tooth. I'm now in constant pain. My new dentist was shocked at the work that Nancy did and even pointed out a section where my crown is jagged on the x-rays and doesn't lay flush with my tooth. She said this will likely cause cavities in the future. I am so disappointed that I went to Nancy and will be reporting her to the appropriate licensing boards as I really think Nancy should not be practicing as a dentist. read more

Should have sought a second opinion. Very aggressive in diagnosis and treatment - and even more aggressive with a drill. At least I didn't pursue the other 2 crowns that were recommended - those I did get a 2nd (and 3rd) opinion on and they were completely unnecessary. The one I did get placed I've had to spend several thousands of dollars on, including the original placement and getting it fixed with another dentist. The thing that gets me is I didn't need a crown at all in the first place. Great hygienists and office staff, but I would not trust beyond a basic cleaning. Run away, fast. read more

I had a total overhaul of my teeth in 2016. All teeth got crowns. It cost me a fortune. Four teeth got root canals. It was a big ordeal that lasted almost a year. I have been taking care of my new crowns as I was told. Stopped smoking as well. One tooth went bad, so I got an implant, which I lost, although the dentist said it was clear to implant. It just fell out at night. I suspect it was because there was nickel involved, and I am highly allergic to it. Well, I was told they could fix it, but it would have cost me another thousand or more. No warranty. I now lost TWO more teeth, they just broke off. I am now in Germany and cannot sue. I feel betrayed, especially because I was acquainted with the dentist. Now I am not able to eat properly, and with Corona, it is a problem to get proper dentist attention, because I am not vaccinated yet. Thank you, Nancy! read more

I went in on my first visit for a cleaning and was given expensive recommendations. I was also told that I had "good insurance" and the staff seemed very excited about that. I recently had a baby and had not had my teeth cleaned in about a year. I was simply wanting a basic cleaning that's all. Nancy and her staff pressured me into getting a crown over a filling I had, something I'll regret for the rest of my life. In addition when they did my cleaning they made me come back over 2 days, not convenient for a new mom and not necessary. It turns out this was done just to maximize the amount they can bill to my insurance. The insurance they were so excited about. From there my life has been a complete nightmare. To start, when I had the crown placed she did not wait for the anesthetic before drilling at my tooth. She is incredibly rough. The absolute roughest dentist I've ever had. I was shocked to see her bedside manners! Also I was extremely surprised that she didn't even take the time to check my bite. She had her dental assistant due that portion. She was distracted and looking at the movie playing in front of me and even chipped the tooth next to the one she was working on, something that causes a source of pain to this day. Since the crown I have been in constant pain. I went back to her and she said that the crown was fine but there clearly was a problem. She never placed it correctly to start, maybe because she never checked my bite, was busy watching a movie while she drilled my tooth or that she is just is an incompetent money hungry dentist. I think it's all three. I myself am a health care professional and I have never seen such a lack of caring and empathy from a provider. This place is solely and entirely about money. Don't let them fool you. My tooth is always throbbing and I am in constant pain. I should have listened to my instincts and went some place else from the start. Please don't make the same mistake. There are plenty of great dentist in the Bay Area. Nancy is the bottom. Do not waste your time. You do not want to end up in pain with a botched crown as I have. I have been going to Top Down Dental since I was a child, and after my wonderful experiences I will continue to do so as I enter the threshold of adulthood. The experience is relaxing, and catered to the patient. 1. Parking is never an issue in the spacious lot in front of the office. 2. Entering the office, you walk into the clean and modern waiting room and settle into a large armchair. The amazing Vicki is at the front desk, greeting you with a smile. There is coffee and tea, juices in the fridge, and usually some type of cookie for your snacking enjoyment. Usually the wait isn't long, so you don't get to spend much time in the waiting room. 3. For patients who experience anxiety at the dentist, there is a serene room with technology like NuCalm and a massage chair. 4. Typically a hygienist will come to retrieve you, and take you to your room. A fun bonus: if you want, you can choose to watch a movie during your appointment! The rooms are comfortable and clean. You take a seat into the comfortable chair, facing the nature of Los Gatos. 5. Depending on the type of appointment you scheduled, either you will be greeted a gentle but methodical hygienist (the wonderful Briar or Kim) or by the experienced and thorough Dr. Nancy. Dr. Nancy is extensively knowledgeable in her practice. One of the best dentists in the area, she is detailed and methodical in her practice, and stays on top of new dental technologies. More than that, she is caring and kind with her patients. The services she offers have helped my whole family; my brother's breathing problems have been alleviated with a night time mouth guard, and my mother's chipped crown from a ski accident was elegantly repaired by Dr. Nancy. Her smile looks better than ever. Another bonus: the experience is relaxing and fun for children as well! The movies are an exciting distraction and as a child I was offered small toys, 'treasures,' from a treasure chest after appointments. Overall, Top Down Dental is simply a fantastic gem of a dentistry in Los Gatos. I plan to continue visiting their practice as long as I live in the Silicon Valley. read more

I am PETRIFIED of any dental work that involves drilling. Like full body panic attacks. After talking to a friend who works here, I decided to suck it up and go for a checkup after three years (I already knew I had cavities that needed to be filled), on her recommendation. This place is super clean and warm and inviting which is a big plus (and they let me bring my emotional support cat in a stroller obviously). I explained to them what I need to be comfortable and not bite them and they were totally on my level. They gave me ALLLL the Novocain to make sure I was numb AF. They have a little mouthguard thing to make it more comfortable to keep your mouth open for a long time. And yes, they do have Netflix. Most importantly they listened when I asked for breaks, and were very patient with my concerns. Now all that being said, it definitely comes at a cost. They did sell me on the laser cleaning which is done across four appointments, because it's basically a periodontal deep clean that requires numbing. It was way more expensive than I had been planning on for sure, but honestly it was the easiest dental experience I've had in 13 years. They do have a lot of "premium" services, so this isn't the place you come for a basic cleaning necessarily, but if you're a person who has to sedate yourself just to walk in the door it is worth every penny. read more

Love Dr. Nancy and the entire team. Who would have thought that you can look forward to going to the dentist?! I started to come here about 2 years ago because I had terrible TMJ, no dentist that wanted to treat it or was willing to even acknowledge what I have and no advice I felt I could trust. After much online research I found Dr. Nancy. First she took pictures of my posture, then of my mouth and ran numerous tests. Then I got braces and the TMJ is much much better. Treatment is not complete yet, but I can feel the improvement and feel like it has been a success already. I can only recommend her as a dentist. Not only does she look at your teeth, but more your body as a whole and how other parts may actually impact your bite. She has the latest technology in her office so that she can really treat whatever you may have. I feel like I can trust her and she is honest with me, which is definitely key with dentists. Also, she really explains to you what is going on... she shows you pictures and xrays on a big screen to show you the problem and makes sure you understand what you are paying for. :) The staff is also amazing. Vicky and Fey are so nice. They always greet you with a smile, remember you, know stories and make it just a nice experience to be there. The office is beautiful and warm. And if you are lucky, you even get to sit in the massage chair and watch a movie for a bit while getting treatment. :) If you can't tell, I absolutely love it and can only recommend it. After my experience with Top Down Dental, I realized I will not select a dentist based on Yelp reviews. Dr Nancy is so aggressive with her dental treatment recommendations that one starts to question whether she has the patient's best interest in mind. She suggested I replace my filling with a porcelain crown and then get a deep cleaning using lasers (together both would cost almost $4000). My biggest regret is that I actually went ahead with the porcelain crown. To explain, after Dr. Nancy recommended that my sister replace something like five of her fillings and crowns, my sister sought the second opinion of another dentist. The other dentist was surprised by Dr. Nancy's assessment of my sister's teeth and recommended very minimal treatment. Today, I visited another dentist who reviewed my xrays and said my crown from Dr Nancy was probably unnecessary... Watching Napoleon Dynamite and sitting in a massage chair was pretty awesome but neither makes up for a dentist whose intentions seem a bit suspect. read more

Buyer Beware! I went to Dr. Nancy Newandian for several years because I needed a sedation dentist and recently left when my hygenist left. I never much cared for the dentist herself -- she was not warm and friendly. Her exams last 2 minutes -- my last exam consisted of her looking at the xrays and talking about sleep apnea. My first visit she told me I urgently needed full mouth planeing and scaling to protect my teeth and I did that under sedation. She charged me $7000 which, in my stupidity I did not shop. I found out today that my current sedation dentist, more established and with a better reputation, charges $2000 for that procedure -- 5 years later! I feel taken and cheated. read more

I like Dr. Nancy as a person, and her office is clean and modern. As a dentist, Dr. Nancy is SO ROUGH! I have seen many dentists before, and they have all been more gentle than her. Even when I would wince or pull away, she just kept plowing through. She administers the anesthesia all at once which is painful from the syringe (other dentist have gone slowly or in small, short bursts). Then she began working on me before I was completely numb. I have never been so sore after having work done, it took a good 2 weeks to wake up without pain in my jaw. Be careful. I came here in lots of pain due to a neck injury. Someone recommended I get checked for TMJ. After about an hour of tests and images that did not seem to go smoothly, the doctor was convinced I had TMJ and we started the path to get a mouthpiece made. The mouthpiece came in, and it didn't feel right. I had to go back in multiple times, where the piece was sawed down, but still never seemed to fit. Basically, this threw my bite WAY off, caused more pain, nightly clenching, and has resulted in lots of money, time. and energy put into having to get my bite readjusted by an osteopath. Please be careful before agreeing to any treatment, especially if you are in a vulnerable state like I was. I am still paying off an unfair bill, and was left with more pain and frustration than when I came in. I do think they mean well, but should stick to regular dentistry. Beware. read more

Dr. Nehawandian has been my dentist for years and I can't imagine going to any other dental office than Top Down Dental. I typically get nervous before going to the dentist but everyone at this office makes me feel at home. At the office, they have different systems and tools that make you feel relaxed before your treatment. During my procedure, I typically enjoy a movie and use the massage feature on the chair. The hygienist is very friendly and knowledgeable. She spends lots of time educating me about the importance of healthy teeth and gums. Dr. Nehawandian always explains any necessary procedures. She takes the time to explain my options to me and will answer any questions that I have. First and foremost my experience with the front desk staff was exceptional. Making my appointment and being greeted immediately on the day of my appointment was something I greatly appreciated. You all do a very nice job in the front! What I did not appreciate was how my appointment was handled the rest of the time. I understand you may have a different point of view on what happened but since you were seeking feedback in a recent email survey, I felt compelled to respond properly. I have had multiple series of deep cleanings in the past ten years or so and never have they amounted to $1500. I understand you like to separate the mouth into four quadrants and get a bacteria sample. I appreciate you wanting to be thorough. What I don't appreciate is being told it's Plan A or no plan at all. I wasn't given the option to have it all done at the same time to reduce cost. I was not given an option for a regular cleaning until I could discuss the cost of a deep cleaning with my husband. I needed to get established with a dentist since we just moved to the area. We had just paid a 4500 vet bill and I was not at a point where I could spend a couple thousand dollars. In regards to Dr. Nancy Nehawandian, I was disheartened. I was sitting in the chair facing the wall and heard her come in behind me looking at my x-rays and speaking to the hygienist. Immediately I heard her discussing that I needed a crown and by her tone she 'saw a lot of problems.' All of this happened before she ever shook my hand and said hello. Before I even met the dentist I saw $$$ signs adding up. She then proceeded to tell me about problems I had with my bite and further testing that would need to be done along with a crown. I declined at the time because I had already been there for an 1 1/2 and I had to leave for another appointment. She seemed rather irritated that I wasn't proceeding with further testing for my bite. At this point she gets up to leave (and has not once even looked inside my mouth) and I get an estimate for my care. I don't mind being given honest feedback on my oral health but I before that happens I believe you need to work on creating a better Doctor/Patient relationship. Before I spend $2,000 on deep cleaning and a crown I want to know that I can trust you. I don't know that I can trust you if you start start piling on the costs prior to saying hello and prior to even looking inside my mouth (not just the X-rays). I am not one to complain but I hope this review might help you in the future with approaching patients. Awesome office, good location, very nice people all around, but I can't with confidence recommend this dentists practice. Once you've questioned a DDS judgment on their decision, it's time to move on. Basically I don't trust them beyond basic cleanings. They seem to strongly recommend for expensive treatment paths, perhaps weigh it against a second opinion. read more

Dr. Nancy was an amazing dentist. I had not visited a dentist in many years and was very nervous because I typically get very anxious before and during dental/medical appointments. Dr. Nancy took the time to explain each step of the cleaning process and was very gentle and thorough. Her staff was also very pleasant and helpful. When I moved up to LG, I was hesitant about going to the dentist because I had some bad experiences in the past when finding new dentists outside of San Diego. I went to go see Dr. Nancy on the recommendation of my friends who raved about how great their experience was with her. When I got there, I marveled at how great Dr. Nancy was! I have to agree with all the reviews- she is the nicest and gentlest dentist I have ever been to, and is so easy to talk to. I felt so comfortable going to her that I didn't mind coming back to get my cavities filled and how technologically advanced her office was also. Being very cautious about what is done in my mouth, I love that she explains everything that she is doing so that I know what is going on. It exudes honesty and professionalism.
