Dr. Ho is an exceptional dentist and I'm so lucky to have found her (after seeing multiple other dentists I didn't like). Two things that stand out: 1. Her focus on being gentle and as non-invasive as possible. A filling chipped off while getting a cleaning and Dr. Ho was able to re-fill it, very quickly, within a few days without anesthesia with basically no pain. 2. Her office staff is also excellent. Maria (may be remembering her name incorrectly) usually helps with insurance and billing, and she is always super on top of it and helps maximize/clarify benefits. I think I found my new favorite dentist! I was a little overdue for my cleaning (it's been about a year). I did a quick yelp search and Dr. Karen Ho popped up in my search. Super easy to make an appointment. I called in and someone on the phone collected all the basic information. On the day of my appt I came in about 10 min before my appt and Maria at the front desk was very friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. She answered the few Qs I had, I completed my paperwork, and then waited in the lobby for a few mins. I don't remember the girl's name who took my xray but she was super friendly and gentle. I know those little things they put in your mouth is not comfortable but she made it quick and easy with the xray. Then Dr. Karen Ho appeared and went over my xrays and yay no cavities. I was super surprised she sat down and asked me about my concerns etc. Dr. Ho was super friendly and patient. I did not feel rushed and did not feel like just another random patient. She listened to my concerns and addressed them. I never felt so heard in my life at the dentist and really appreciate this extra friendly gesture :) Next, Maggie was my hygienist and carefully cleaned my teeth. No pain what so ever. Although we didn't have much of a conversation, she was friendly and nice at informing me which areas I should focus on and directions on keeping up my oral care. We found Dr. Ho herself to be quite pleasant but there were three major issues we encountered: 1. The equipment/facilities were rather run-down (which may in the interim have changed, with a new office). 2. My wife noticed that the hygienist was not using completely clean/sanitized tools on her: big no-no). 3. The receptionist/billing-payment person was an absolute nightmare. She preceded every sentence with a phrase along the lines of, "I've been doing this for 40 years," ominously intoned, the implication being that however outlandish her behavior was, it was justified on the basis that she has been in this line of work for decades. We couldn't help but think that maybe it was time for her to retire, as she seemed to hate her job and people so much. It did not reflect well on Dr. Ho that she would engage such a person to represent her and her office. One visit was enough. We never returned. I came from a cheaper essj viet style dentist, and I was just sick of the traffic, and ghetto money saving tactics, you only get one set of perminate teeth, so why cheap out on something so important? pros: extremely clean place tons of parking Karen is very nice, kind, truely cares about her patients you get some pimp terminator sun glasses for when they work on your teeth( photo uploaded) Good scheduling database, email/ text conformations/ along with reminders. they follow up the day after. Cons: they are not open on Fridays, not that is a big deal for me but I can see that it would for others. price is quit high, over twice as much as my old essj dentist, and a little more expensive than my other well known dentist that is in sunnyvale/ borderline los altos, for this locations Im not sure if the price is on par, but the customer service, cleanliness, professionalism, and quality of work make the price worth it. you get what you pay for always, and I will pay the price for outstanding work. read more

Since WHEN did going to the dentist become a pleasant visit? Since I found Dr. Ho of course! Hey-Ho my teeeeef are clean fo SHO! :) I actually Yelped a few months back to find a top-notch recommended dentist within a 3 mile radius of where I'm living and Dr. Ho's office pops up in multiple searches. Thank goodness I had PPO insurance at the time with my last company cuz otherwise my broke ass wouldn't be able to afford this luxurious dental service they offer here. And when I say luxurious I just mean that the new office is completely equipped with brand new, state-of-the-art chairs, small flat screens above the chair (which I'm sure are for the kids to watch something to keep their mind off of getting their teeth pulled), x-ray machines, etc. I love the fact that when I walk into the office there usually isn't anyone waiting in the front lobby. Yes, not a single person! You know what that means?! It means this office actually schedules a specific time for each patient and doesn't double book! How wonderful is that? My cleaning with Jennifer both times have been decent, I'm still not a fan of cleanings but she's pretty good. As long as I'm not leaving the office bleeding from the mouth I'm a happy, smiling camper. Dr. Ho is very friendly, personable and a joy to converse with. She actually referred me to my future orthodontist and that office is also top notch to me as well. Dentists have always been a nightmare for me. Im sure we all jave our horrow stories. So when i was searching for a new dentist, i was more than happy to have found Dr. Ho. Dr. Ho and her staff are amazing. Super friendly and really care about their patients. Dr. Ho is really gentle and will have you leaving pain free. Even when i had my deep cleaning, i didnt have pain at all after it was done. Her and her staff will go over everything with you and give you advice on what you need to do to keep your teeth healthy. Karen Ho has been my dentist for the last 10 years. We moved from the South Bay to San Francisco about 5 years ago, and last year I decided I would try to find a dentist that is closer to me. However after one experience with another practice, I have decided to start making the long trip down to Campbell once again because it made me realize how amazing of a dental practice Karen's is! This review is long overdue. Karen is a talented and trustworthy professional, as well as a very nice person, and her team members are also all great. Over the years about 4 or 5 hygienists have cleaned my teeth and they have all been wonderful (this means they clean your teeth well, teach you how to do a better job, and make it as painless as possible.) And the front office staff are always a pleasure to see and they handle billing and appointment without issue. In fact they go above and beyond--once when I had just moved to the area and started visiting Karen's practice, I had to visit a specialist who was a mile away but my wife had dropped me off and taken the car, so Mickey in the front office drove me to the specialist appointment. After going to the same dentist for my entire life, I was hesitant in finding a new primary dentist when I moved out to Cali. I'd actually waited over a year (ew, you should get your teeth cleaned every 6 months) to find a dentist that would be covered under my PPO. Just a Yelp and a skip away, and I find myself on the phone with Dr. Ho's team scheduling an appointment. Dr. Ho's staff are exceptionally kind and compassionate. At the start of our session, Dr. Ho took notes on all of my dental questions and needs regarding oil pulling, water picks, and mouth guards for when I grind my teeth at night. Her exam was thorough, and she explained her rationale with you to get you involved. I've never disliked the dentist, but she really got me interested and invested in the care of my teeth. (What? I'm being motivated to floss more??) Some short take-aways I got from our chat: -Water picks are good in getting food out of your teeth but are certainly no replacement for flossing -There has not been enough clinical studies to show the long term benefit or harm of oil pulling, but in her opinion, it doesn't seem harmful if done right. An oral surgeon friend swears by it and oil pulls every day. -Fluorine is still recommended in small doses Since it had been so long, and I'm an avid coffee and tea drinker, my teeth looked pretty awful, but after my session, I was amazed to see my teeth in such great condition. I've never had such a drastic change in one cleaning. (Sorry for making you do so much work Dr. Ho!) Due to my teeth grinding, I did need to buy a mouth guard that was out of pocket (~$200) but the rest of my visit was completely covered by my PPO!! I've really appreciated both of my visits to Dr. Ho's office. (1: Routine Cleaning) I was looking for a new dentist in the South Bay Area and saw the awesome Yelp reviews, so I made an appointment online. It was easy to schedule a cleaning (and later to schedule a filling appointment). When I showed up, all of the administrators, hygienists, and Dr. Ho, as well, were all friendly and easy to talk to. Something I liked during my cleaning appointment was that Yen (my hygienist) would explain what she was doing during the procedure and why she was doing it. At my old dentist office, everyone was just dead silent throughout the appointment and I would never really have much idea what was going on in my mouth. So that's a nice little touch! Then Dr. Ho came in to see me after my cleaning was complete. She made some nice small talk with me while also explaining what she was looking for and why during her examination. Overall an awesome experience the first time! Again, I was able to conveniently schedule another appointment as I found out I needed a filling. Their schedule was so open, I could have come back in later that week if I wanted to! There was no need to plan something months ahead (which is how it is at some dentist offices). I made an appointment for two weeks later (as it worked best with my schedule) and came back in for the filling. (2: Filling) I've heard less than exciting stories about people getting fillings. Naturally, the appointment had me a little apprehensive about discomfort and length of the procedure. Fortunately, Dr. Ho's office uses really top-notch equipment that allowed for a quick and painless filling process! I needed no anesthesia whatsoever (thanks to the "Sandblaster"), felt no discomfort the entire time, and was out of the chair in 15 minutes! Since I arrived early to my appointment, I literally spent more time in the waiting room than I did in the chair. I have zero complaints and am happy to recommend Dr. Ho's office to anyone in the South Bay Area looking for a professional, friendly, and caring dentist. read more

All the previous reviews have said it all. Yet, I found Dr. Ho's office because of Yelp and was given a "Yelp credit" for having mentioned it, so I would be shirking my sense of karmic responsibility if I didn't leave a review here myself. I knew I liked Dr. Ho when I discovered we share a rather geeky hobby. This creates a real conflict, because every time I visit, I want to "talk shop", which is utterly impossible with that damn rubber tarp and an assortment of metal things rattling around in my mouth: "So how do you like the new cahgah ooh uh ugh-yun wah?" Dr. Ho is awesome, but she apparently does not speak retard. However, that aside, there's a nice movie collection and generally tolerable background music, with one particular exception. (Gwyneth Paltrow sings? Really?! Good thing she's got that acting thing as a fallback.) The procedures really are as painless as everyone said. I've had a crown and more cavities filled than Jenna Jameson (*rimshot*) here, and haven't ever felt anything past mildly uncomfortable, even when warned I might. Dr. Ho's been cheerfully keeping my choppers in order for about five years now - time for a review update! First of all, the current office is so much better than the old location, I'm very happy about the move. The whole staff here is incredibly patient with my low dental self esteem - despite being rather fanatical about brushing and flossing, I'm convinced at every visit that today is the day I will be told all my teeth need to be pulled, and also that my teeth in general resemble a row of jagged Corn-Nuts because they aren't as perfect and white as TV and movie teeth. They tolerate my dental rants, then they clean my teeth and we all have a good laugh (it's easy to laugh when you're headed out the door with that little baggie containing a toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. HA HA, see you in six months!). I've had the most gentle and (relatively) comfortable cleanings of my life at this office, and everyone welcomed me back warmly with no shaming when I took a break to see another dentist due to insurance changes. My appointments always start on time and Dr. Ho remains kind, encouraging and patient. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go floss my Corn-Nuts. read more

Great personality - but for some odd reason, I felt it very "overpriced". I felt like I was paying alot even though I have insurance. I needed to get a dental implant and she sent me to her "referral" who wanted to charge me $5500!!! Whhhhaaa? I got a second opinion from another dentist and that was the last Dr. Ho saw of me. I see another dentist now and she referred me to Dr. Jeworski in Sunnyvale who will do the same job for $2350 (yes, look him up on Yelp - 5 stars all the way!). BTW, insurance doesn't cover dental implants. I don't know why Dr. Ho thought I was made of money - which is something I don't have. I liked her personally, but didn't like the pricey specialist she sent me to. I guess she thought she could bring her "network" money. read more

She's amazing. I am the type that is afraid of dentists. She keeps up with the latest techniques, and always makes sure I'm comfortable (And that's not easy, since my teeth aren't that great..) Her and her staff are competent, and punctual, and handle billing insurance quickly and accurately (which sadly, isn't as common as it should be in the profession.) To be more specific: -She uses dental dams, so I don't have tooth and filling pieces falling into my mouth as she works (yes - I said my teeth were bad). -She uses a unique technique to help desensitize your gum -before- giving an injection, then massages the area to help while being injected. I hardly feel a thing. -If the sun comes in the window while you are in the chair, they'll give you shaded eyeglasses/eyeguards. -She's kind to her staff -Her team helped me when I was budgeting my treatment plan (I avoided dentists in the past, because they were either mean/condescending/sadistic.) I finally have a gripe. I never have a chance to read a magazine. I come in for an appointment, everyone says hi. Seriously, everyone. I peruse the racks...oooh new Sports Illustrated. I can't even sit down, before I'm escorted back. But hey, I can bring the magazine back and in the inbetween moments read a little... you would think. The doc just comes in all smiles and charm, and woah, hey! A lot does change in six months... Sigh, I thought waiting rooms were places where I have to wait interminably for an appointment that is running three hours behind and anyone title Dr. looked at you like you were an '83 Datsun and not a person. I have been needing a dentist since moving from Los Angeles to attend UCSF and came across Dr. Ho. She and her staff are friendly, attentive and incredibly professional. I was reluctant to find a new dentist after moving from Los Angeles. I tried one up in San Mateo, but it wasn't a good fit. He was nice enough, but I just didn't feel comfortable. Dr. Ho immediately puts you at ease and is a consummate professional. She explains the procedure and is very thorough. I actually enjoy going to the dentist. No joke. Dr. Karen and the whole staff (Jen, Diana, Kathy, Mickie, Anh, etcetera) are amazing. I always feel taken care of during my visits and the staff truly care about their work. The cleanings are always very thorough but also very gentle and I love how my teeth feel after my appointments. Regardless of what type of appointment I have, Dr. Karen always makes a cheerful appearance and checks in. More importantly, I've never felt any pain with any of my procedures as she is liberal with the anesthesia for a wuss like me. I've had a bit of work done on my teeth (orthodontics, two dental implants, bone grafts, gum graft, and a bridge) and Dr. Karen was wonderful during the whole process. Her recommended team for my teeth, Dr. Joseph Kim, DMD & Drs. Phelps & Cohen Orthodontics, are awesome too. For such major dental work, a comprehensive, easy to understand breakdown of costs was provided. Because my dental work spanned two years, Dr. Karen honored her initial quotes for me. The new office is slightly sterile, but extremely clean and comfortable. The equipment is all new and up to date and the chairs are comfortable. I've never had to wait over five minutes for my appointment, and am provided numerous reminders (from calls, emails, and a cute little tooth sticker for my home wall calendar) for my next one. I'm also always given a little baggie with a nice Oral-B toothbrush, Crest toothpaste, and floss upon exit (perfect for travel!). After a long wait I finally got the opportunity to meet and have my teeth checked by Dr. Karen Ho!! Going to the dentist, any dentist, is kinda like opening your report card when you know you've been messing around during the first semester. You're doing good in some subjects (brushing; a grade higher maybe because you're using an electric toothbrush), and then totally failing in others (flossing, only because you do it when you feel its completely necessary), then you've got like the extra curricular subject, ( rinsing with mouthwash, A+, because its fun as hell and EASY!!) So you get your x-rays taken and the dentist comes in and its time to do an oral exam...and the final results are...YOU PASS with FLYING COLORS!!! hahaha WHOOO HOOO...Jumping in my pants as I'm sitting in her chair. Then comes in your tutor, the dental hygenist...The one who's going to get down to the nitty gritty and point out in a gentle way, all the things you've been doing wrong....I felt so bad because it took her nearly an hour or so to clean my teeth. MY BAD for being really horrible with my check ups... The dental office itself almost reminds me of when you walk into a highly recommended hole in the wall mexican restaurant. You really don't know what to expect from the exterior of the building. Are you walking into an older office or a hidden gem? Well, let me just tell you its no Tiffany and Co., but it is definitely filled with precious stones. The staff is super friendly, the front desk woman, was sweet and prompt with me. The medical billing assistant, was hilarious as she walked by my exam room dancing while I was getting my teeth cleaned. I mean it was like we were having a party up in Dr. HO's office!!! It was great!!! My teeth are super clean. I will definitely be back...As my husband will be going there for his check up in a couple weeks!!! Dr. Karen Ho is a thorough practitioner, located in a new, state of the art facility. So far, her entire staff have been nothing but friendly, informative, and attentive. For short notice issues, the office has provided appt.'s very fast. Follow-up is great for maintenance care. She's honest about what she can and cannot do, and doesn't jump to recommend procedures for the sake of generating business. I like Dr. Ho because she's genuinely kind and personable. As many patients as she obviously has, she always seems to remember details about you unrelated to dentistry. Best dentist in Silicon Valley hands down. Dr. Karen is awesome- always smiling, great at explaining things, and is truly at the top of her game as a DDS. I don't think I've ever gotten such a thorough first exam before. Having just moved into the area, I've been pretty lazy about finding a new dentist, so I was a bit nervous going in. As a new patient, they did a complete examination of my teeth and she checked everything and was able to tell me my whole dental history just by looking at each tooth. It was helpful that she explained what was going on through the process so that I was informed as well. I have to preface this review by saying that I (used to) absolutely hate going to the dentist. I always felt like I was "getting in trouble" for having plaque in my teeth, having a cavity, etc. All in all it was never a fun experience. She also uses an ultrasonic cleaner for your teeth, which is MUCH better than the traditional metal scraper. She will do a little bit with the metal tools, but not much. The only minor downside that I had with my first visit is that it took about 2 hours, but that was because I hadn't seen a dentist in a few years. So if you are switching to her or haven't seen a dentist in a while, make sure you plan for an hour or two. Everyone that works at her office is great, very cordial and professional. Dr. Ho is awesome!!!! She has actually made me enjoy going to the dentist. She is very friendly and thoughtful and has a great sense of humor. The same can be said about everyone that works there as they are just nice people. What I really appreciate about them is that they will call you a few days after you appointment, just to see how you are doing. Love this place. read more

My visit to Dr. Karen Ho's office was amazing! As soon as I entered the office, I was greeted with smiles all around and they made my first time process very easy. I was then greeted by a hygienist and she was fantastic! She was super fun to talk to and made my experience very comfortable. Inside the decor looked really nice! The blue color of the walls and the grey color of the cabinets really complimented each other and I found it to be super visually pleasing. As for the cleaning, everything went smoothly, Karen and her team took very good care of me. Finally got around to scheduling a dental appointment after moving to California a year ago. What a great choice I made!! Everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to. I felt very welcomed! On top of that, Dr. Karen Ho and her staff provided one of the most thorough dental exams I have ever received. I received a gum cleaning, floss, x-ray, panoramic x-ray, gum measurements (front and back), gum recession measurements, oral cancer exam, etc. But what impressed me the most was that Dr. Ho actually took the time to listen to me and learn about my prior dental experiences and how I felt about my teeth. I will preface this review with stating that I have always been very good about going to the dentist and having 6-month cleanings. And from the last 12 years of cleanings at various dentists, I know I have needed cavities filled and crowns done. I had never before trusted a dentist enough to work on my mouth... ...Until Dr. Ho! I get very nervous at dentists and even cleanings for me are a big deal, like they are for a lot of other people. I initially wanted to take away a star because of the difficulty of getting an appt with Dr. Ho, but then I thought about it, and it just shows how popular she is. Her and her entire staff made me very comfortable for my first visit, and the cleaning went without a hassle. She confirmed again all the cavities I needed to fill and the crowns I needed to have done. And for once, I began making appointments to have the work done. Maybe it was the way she didn't try to sell me any products or unneeded services, or the way she didn't rush me through the initial appointment. It was probably also the way she really went above and beyond to show that she cared about my concerns of pain and unease at dentists. I didn't get any whacked out estimates, either, like I have at other dentists. I have been back to Dr. Ho about 5 or 6 times just in the last 7 months. And I have actually looked forward to each visit, because i knew I would be taking care of something in a relatively painless way. All my fillings have been virtually pain-free, including the novacaine shot. Dr. Ho has the best technique I have seen to reduce pain when receiving the initial shot of novacaine. She is always checking to see if you're "ok" during procedures, and makes longer procedures (like crowns) comfortable. It's no picnic to be sitting in a chair for almost 2 hours, while she fits you for a crown, but she does her best in making it comfortable for you. Her crowns have been a perfect fit, as somebody else mentioned, thanks to Dr. Ho and her staff. I have never experienced any pain with Dr. Ho, and all her staff have been wonderful. It's still difficult to get in to see her unless you make one appt right after the other. But her hours are convenient, with 8am slots. Dr. Ho has always remembered me and practically all my coworkers that go to her, as well. I can't imagine ever going to another dentist after her. read more
