They seriously have so many options for food and is impressive for pub food. The portions are generous so you won't be leaving without leftovers. Tooky Mills seems to be the quintessential small New England town hang out, and that comes complete with the expected ambience (service takes its time, 'cuz it's just one woman holding down 3 different rooms, but this means you have a chance to go look at the eclectic collection of local stuff on the walls) and clientele (everyone from queer youth with bright turquoise hair and elderly couples are welcome). Great outdoor space. Servers are quite nice. The baked haddock was dense, tough, and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were tasteless. The fish and chips sprang oil the first few times cutting into it. The coleslaw tastes like herring, and the fries are bland. No reason to return. read more

We were in the area to check something out on Facebook marketplace and there weren't many dinner options available. We decided to try Tooky Mills Pub but if I'm honest we had our expectations set really low. I was wrong, this place is fabulous. The service was OUTSTANDING. Like remember when servers knew the menu, were prompt, courteous and you felt like they really wanted you to enjoy your meal? That's how it is here. Can't say enough good things about their staff. We got chicken, broccoli Alfredo which my daughter described as being "exactly what she hoped it would be", I got an amazing steak and my boyfriend for the fish and chips. It was all perfect, except the steak which wasn't medium rare at all, that's why only 4 stars not 5. Even though the steak was overcooked it was delicious, whatever they season with is amazing. Returned to the pub for a third time. We throughly enjoyed ourselves!! Started with the Pretzel and Calamari.. Calamari had the BIGGEST tentacles we have ever seen was a little to soft, but it still tasted delicious. The Pretzel was nice and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside, peppered mustard was good as well. This is a really nice restaurant in the middle of town. The parking lot is always full here, obviously a local favorite. The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is great for casual outings or special occasions. My daughter and I recently went for lunch here as we just needed a little down time. This was the perfect spot. The photos in the wall are very interesting to look at and I just love the way they have decorated. They bring your bill on a sock, which is pretty cool for the history of this place. I ordered one of the specials, a carribean pork tenderloin with jerk seasoning and a blueberry balsamic reduction and my daughter ordered pasta with butter. Everything was delicious! I thought the pork was seasoned perfectly and the blueberry reduction just made the entire dish come together. It was a very enjoyable lunch. Unfortunately, we were to stuffed for dessert. read more

I think this is the best restaurant in Hillsborough. I love the more old school NH style businesses. If you are some snobby boutique person, then do not come here. Hillsborough was a tannery town back in the day, and it is still a down to Earth working class place. I actually prefer it to my stomping ground of youth Peterborough, which has become older, and richer over the years. I believe they do happy hour beer specials, you can always give a call. The burgers here are really great. I also get the Haddock sandwich sometimes. I think we ate a cordon blue, really good. Clam chowder is also a hit. I haven't had anything I was disappointed by. It does get busy if you have a larger party I would recommend reservations. read more

This is a great place right off the beaten path in Hillsboro nh. The place used to be a mill and still has some of the artifacts and moulding from a time ago when things were built to last. When you walk in there is a great looking bar with many items on tap as well as well stocked liquors. We were seated at a booth and room was bright. We ordered chicken Caesar salad and a Ruben with fries. All had great taste and the serving sizes were good. The server was attentive but not intrusive. This was a fun stop. Great service. A little bit of a wait to be seated. We opted for the patio which has high top seating and a tv to watch the Pats play. The menu is fairly extensive. We saw someone else's chicken nuggets order and had to get them. These are not nuggets, but thin breast filets breaded and fried to perfection. You get your choice of sauces - I like to mix ranch and Buffalo sauce. Yum. 4 big pieces! I also ordered the chicken wontons- very flavorful. We also had a couple of brews and we were full! General time: 4 COVID-times: 3 Tooky Mills is a solid stop in an area that doesn't have a lot of options, and that's great in itself. They have a nice patio, a menu that fits every kind of diet, and a bar. This is the first place I went once outdoor dining was open again, and they were pretty good about outdoor spacing and distancing including moving tables onto the sidewalk and far apart. On a return visit, though, they had moved all the tables back onto the patio, and people were milling around without masks. When I went inside to pick up my food, there were people just sitting at the bar (unmasked, drinking) and the staff was not fully wearing masks either unless they were interfacing with customers (pulling it on as they handed me my food). I went from feeling really safe to not wanting to go back until this is over. read more

Driving back from a small trip, we pulled into Hillsborough to find a place for a sit down dinner and the whole town looked pretty dead on a Sunday night, everything was closed except the Tooky Mills. My buddy woke up from a massive hangover and asked "Where the f#ck are we?" I told him we were at the Tooky Mills in Hillsborough. One of my bosses, who lives nearby, had told me the food here was pretty good. Tooky is short for Contoocook. We walked inside through the bar area and we were seated in the dining room to the right. The restaurant and pub has a classic atmosphere which is housed in an old building with exposed brick and wood. The bar area with TV has hardwood floors and the dining room is carpeted with red & white patterned wallpaper and classic historic pictures on the walls. The seating and tables (with vase flowers & candlelight) are all hardwood finished with not too much lighting. The menu offers creative American pub cuisine including appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers (named after NH mills), beef, poultry, pork, ribs, seafood, pasta, desserts, and daily specials. See the menu at http://www.tookymillspub.com, note some prices have changed. Beer, wine, and mixed drinks available. The prices here are reasonable with generous portions given. We started out with Diet Cokes ($1.85 each) and 2 special appetizers. Mussels Meuniere ($8.99): PEI mussels sauted with garlic, herbs, wine & butter were very juicy and tasty. We also tried the Conch Fritters ($6.99), which are popular in Florida. The 5 Conch Fritters (finely diced conch in a deep fried cornmeal batter served with spicy ranch & watermelon slice) had a very moist texture inside and a spicy taste, pretty good tasting overall and the first time I've seen conch fritters on a NH menu. The basket of bread slices were warm. For dinner, my buddy had a good side salad ($1.50 with meal) which had mixed greens (no iceberg), cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, carrots, radishes, & dressing and the Atlantic Salmon Special ($15.99: fresh filet topped with Dijonaise, cracked black pepper, fresh seasoned crumb & Romano cheese, then oven roasted) served with rice pilaf, buttered carrots & green beans, and watermelon slice was very good. I had the Fettucini Bolognese ($10.99: chicken, sausage, & beef in a heavy tomato cream sauce tossed with fettucini) was very rich and filling with fresh grated cheese offered. Since we were so stuffed, we passed on desserts from the dessert tray (apple crisp, peanut butter pie, chocolate cake, bread pudding, ice cream, & more). Overall, the food was very good and the service was friendly and laid back. This is not your place, if you're in a big rush. The pace of the meal is relaxed and not hurried, with the food and drinks taking a while to come out to the table. The Tooky Mills Pub is a great recommendation for a nice relaxed paced meal with good food at reasonable prices in the Hillsborough area. read more

Terrible Steak tips totally overdone, poor quality tips. What was really troubling however was the very loud group of 4 women next to us. Loud, obnoxious, yelling, open mouth smiles & laughter, talk about respiratory droplets! Had several visitors, NO social distancing. I spoke to the hostess, & was told someone would ask them to be quieter Had to ask 3 times for someone to intervene. Slightly more modest voice for 45 seconds. I ordered the scallops here, and although they looked good, they were very plain, and squeezing lemon on them didn't help. The wild rice side was room temperature and dry. I only took a few bites of the meal and let the waitress know I didn't enjoy it. She took the plate away, did not offer the leftovers, but also didn't knock anything off of the bill. This is the second time I've eaten there where this same scenario took place. I could have souped them at home, at least? Don't claim the leftovers AND not take the food off the bill, or at least discount it. read more

I would say it was an ok visit. We've been here maybe six times, and it's fun enough to return, if not exactly memorable. Very friendly staff, and we love the outdoor seating. My last lunch was pretty blah. I ordered the Korean bbq sandwich with kimchi. How it was so bland is beyond me. It was not Korean bbq and the "Kimchi " was more like sauerkraut. So sad! While my baked potato was delicious I can't say the rest of the meal was. My husband's meatloaf was awful, I have never seen flat meatloaf. It was mushy and Luke warm at best and the gravy was cold. He had 2 bites and left it. Stopped here on the way back from hiking and it's a great local bar, of course this town is off the beaten path so I'd expect it to be but we sat at the bar and were welcomed as friends, had some great conversations with people we'll likely never meet again but if we do, we'll pick up where we left off.
