This is a good spot to satisfy your cravings . I like fried oysters and they fry them perfectly here and season them with lemon pepper . The onion rings are tasty here too and so are their frozen lemonades . Everyone working here is friendly too .

Ordered a pan of chicken, legs and thighs from Tony-s at 1538 E 87th St. These pieces look like they came from a baby chicken. When I called the guy tells me next time ask for all big pieces. I have never heard of this before from any other Tony's.

YALL! The food here is bomb and so big!!!! My favorite is the Cajun fries you can get it with: chicken, steak, or kabob or all 3 or two meats!!! Y'all it's so fye and big it lasted me for two days!!! My hubby got the fish he says make sure you ask for the certain amount of lemon pepper if your picky... some people love alot some don't want to much. I haven't tried the frozen lemonade but they have many options and I heard they were soooooooooo delicious! They have watermelon, blue, cherry ect... just be the ambiance could use some work of course because it is kinda hood on the outside with people begging for money so if your not use to this then take someone with you or just make sure you be carful because everyone is not used to this type of environment! Try those foods!

One star was taken away for the simple fact that the cajun fries didn't have enough shrimp but other than that this food is delicious. My daughter who fancies herself a "french fry aficionado" loved the fact that the fries were crispy in addition to having the perfect golden hue to them. The Cajun fries was a delightful surprise. Twas more akin to. Shrimp & chicken po boy with the added fries & sauce. The shrimp to chicken ration is amusing but it's still a great dish & a hefty one at that. For the chicken Philly I opted for lemon pepper fried as a side & while the flavor was either minuscule or not present at all the fries are still perfect. I was extremely satisfied from one dish alone so I can't speak to the chicken holly but I assume I'll return to review many more items.

    1 MEAT RICE BOWL

I would be back here, the lady behind the counter was nice and helpful. I wasn't sure on what to get my first time here. I got one the bowls and I would say mighty tasty. A little too much sauce for me but for next time I will order less sauce. They have frozen lemonade in different flavors which was delicious. I wasn't too sure what flavor I was able to sample it and I just had to order one, I wish I knew her name.

Best, BIGGEST sandwiches I've had in Chicago. This place is a must try. Hidden Gem. We had A chicken philly and some Chicken Tenders. Was out of this world. Prices are very reasonable.

Cheese was overwhelming! Couldn't taste the steak on my Philly. Just too messy. Meat was seasoned well and fries were okay.

I probably would not…read morehave stumbled upon this on my own, but the notion of a perfect fusion of Greek, Jewish and Italian (The Holy Trinity) immigrant flavors in probably the most American sandwich you could have thought of. Thankfully this came about pretty naturally where these communities converge. I mean it's "we have the meats" and cold weather food combined. Corned Beef & Mustard from the Jewish cuisine, Roast Beef & Gaird from the Italians, Tzaziki & gyro from the Greeks and LTOC from American sandwiches. Some people and places put mayo and ketchup on there, but it muddies the cultures and makes it feel like not just a meat bomb, but a sauce bomb too leaving things indistriguishable. It's got this combination of hot and cold, crunch and chew, spice and cooling sauces. The only thing I'd like to see changed is have horseradish sauce in the sandwich and have the tzaziki as a dipping sauce. The cheese is swiss, but I'd like some cooper sharp, but I don't want to confuse NY'ers who chop their sandwiches (pre chew as I call it) as it might be a little too melty. The fries are well done, but putting them IN the sandwich is too much. The hoagie roll can barely handle all this meat on it's own. People say to use the BBQ sauce for the fries, but it muddles the flavor experience. I like to bring my own celery salt bc I love it on a Chicago dog so much that I think it helps. The bread is softer, but doesn't fall apart (don't take it out of the aluminum foil, like the In N Out burger, don't remove it from the diaper) It's not a classy sandwich shop, but a blue collar, greasy, cash only, curt coustomer service place that the is for the working man and the hungry man alike. Locals love this place becuase of how authentic it is and it's easy to see why everything is so popular. It's all good and it all sells. The only thing more popular is their wings, large, meaty, well seasoned. There is no eating inside or outside, so it's to go only. Grab one on your lunch break, best place to eat nearby is the telephone pole you could lean against or the hood of your car. Like most top tier places there is a way to order. It's not drunk food like Maxwells, becuase it's not singular in flavor. It's everything. A kitchen sink if you well, hence the name Gym Shoe. You might think it's some funky shoe, but it's a $300 pair of Jordans. It's open 24 hours, so depending on the hour it could get sketchy, but it's popular amongs LEO's that people wont mess with you too much. Service is decent, far less full of themselves as hotdog places around here, borderline friendly. My favorite way to wash this down is with a Mexican coke. Becuase there is so much meat, cheese, sauces it actually warms up pretty well if you can't finish it. Unlike other Chicago foods like the rigobene's breaded steak sandwich or a Jibarito. While it's something you can only find not just here (Chicago), but only in the Southside. It's hyper local. Unlike many foods which can't actually be replicatable elsewhere, this one can. You can find all the ingredients yourself. I don't reccomend doing that becuase eventhough I'm writing this, your not finding this unless your a foodie or interested in Chicago, i'm still sort of gatekeeping things. No sandwich shop owner has really come up with this anywhere else.

This black owned business has above average standing room in the waiting area, two TVs and an ATM with a good amount of seats/benches. Seems like it might've been an old chinese food joint with a few tables, but they opted for a pure takeout experience (which is unfortunately the trend nowadays.) Since it was my first time I thought I'd try both the fish and chicken combo along with the dirty rice. The total came out to be $24 with the wait being about 15 minutes. The staff overall were nice.      After leaving the place and checking the food. I realized that the combo dinner didn't contain a roll and coleslaw like advertised which was kind of disappointing. It did have the fries though. The requested lemon pepper was there, but they also seasoned the chicken/catfish with garlic powder, salt and parsley which is fine. Everything was fried hard, but not dry which creates the perfect pleasurable crunch. The chicken and fish tasted better than a lot of the restaurants in the area with the fish having a lightness to the breading that's sorely missed. Some of the chicken was weirdly tough though as if it was slightly undercooked.      Speaking of misses we have to talk about the dirty rice. Dirty rice is one of those dishes that seems like it either is absolute perfection or an abomination with no in-between. This unfortunately falls into the latter with it not only looking boring with all brown notes, but the initial taste as well as texture being an off putting creamy rancid trip to flavor hell. After a just a few bites my stomach turned which does not bode well for this dish. I have no idea what went wrong here, but it seems like it may have been sitting out too long. Even the smell was a bit rancid. At least it has a good ratio of ground beef to rice which a lot of places skimp on. They also attempted to add in some vegetables like peppers although they are barely noticeable.       Overall Surf's up is a good spot with friendly staff, decent prices, but some issues with quality. My advice is to make sure the cooking temps are correct and consistent. Definitely make sure if food is sitting idle, that it is kept at the mandatory minimum of 140 degrees farenheit to avoid it going rancid so quickly. Also, double check the orders before sending them out or edit the menu if it is outdated.
