It was hard to use this way and I worried about it getting even worse. These guys were able to completely restore it! It works like brand new now. The price was great and they got the job done fast. Fantastic experience! If I ever have any other vintage electronics in need of repair, I will bring it to them for sure.

Earlier that day I…read morehad called Hi-Tech Electric Service Center, explained the issue, and was told "sure, no problem, bring it in." I even mentioned what I thought the problem was and that I preferred a professional to handle it. After leaving work early and lugging a 35 lb sub about an 8 minute walk to the shop, the person I spoke with asked what was wrong, then basically told me I should just do it myself. He then said he was uncomfortable having his team take it apart and declined the job. This is exactly the kind of thing that should have been communicated over the phone so I didn't waste the time and effort bringing it in. On the positive side, he seemed honest and didn't try to pretend they had skills or comfort level they didn't. He also recommended another shop in Chinatown that "will fix anything," although I checked their reviews and decided not to go that route. In the end I repaired the sub myself successfully. Overall, I appreciate the honesty, but I was frustrated by the lack of clear communication up front that led to an unnecessary trip with a heavy piece of equipment.

Unfortunately the delivery experience was frustrating. I was told during the sale that setup would be completed at delivery, but when the first delivery team arrived they said they did not have authorization to install it. This required scheduling a second visit and taking additional time off work. When I called the store to resolve the issue, the manager (Ralph) was dismissive and argumentative rather than focused on resolving the problem or maintaining the customer relationship. The haul-away fee was eventually refunded, but the interaction felt more like an attempt to end the conversation than to actually make things right. I also emailed the corporate customer service address listed online (customerservice@pcrichard.com) and never received a response. The mattress itself is great, but after spending over $2,200 I expected a much more customer-focused experience. Good product, but the way the issue was handled is the reason I wouldn't return

Then I decided to try PC Richard & Son, and I'm so glad I did. When I called the Bay Ridge location, Mr. B answered the phone. I explained what had happened, and he couldn't have been nicer. He told me he could order me the same unit at the same price, and installation would be no problem. They even offered the same 0% financing option. The whole process was easy. I ordered the unit over the phone in about 15 minutes. PC Richard & Son sent two teams: one to make sure the washer/dryer would fit down my stairs and into the closet, and another for installation. Albert, a Licensed Master Plumber, and his colleague Christian installed my gas dryer quickly and correctly. They were professional and friendly and did a great job. Couple days after installation, Mr. B called to tell me the unit I bought had just gone on sale and that he was refunding my credit card $54.44. I have never had a store call me on their own to give me a refund after a sale. That really impressed me. Mr. B, you are the best. You've earned a customer for life. I also want to mention Ralph, another associate who was just as friendly and helpful. If you're shopping for appliances, skip the big box stores and call PC Richard & Son in Bay Ridge. Ask for Mr. B -- you'll be glad you did!

They run special deals on combos of motherboards bundled with CPUs & RAM all the time, which I used to build mine and my son's last computers. Their prices are competitive with online stores. I also like that they occasionally send out coupons for free stuff, like memory cards, flash drives and Bluetooth headphones just to lure you back into the store. Plus they have clearance items that are always good to check, never knowing what you might find. Not as well known as for their computer components is that they also sell many hobby items similar to what Radio Shack used to stock. They have breadboards, soldering irons, wire strippers and other tools. They also sell techie toys like drones, 3D printers and even LEGO sets. But for a while they were also stocking model rockets and accessories, although at MSRP prices. This time, they look to be liquidating the model rocket stocks because they have not restocked in years. All rocket accessories and supplies were 50%-70% off list prices, as listed on their website and I cleaned them out of just about all the rocket engines. The checkout guy asked if I was planning to launch to the moon. What would have been $400 as originally tagged, scanned for $120. Whenever I see a crazy deal like this, I am all over it!

It worked well enough for my purposes, I told myself. The built-in phono stage wasn't exactly usable, but I had my own external preamp that I liked, and there were times the sound would cut out if something got ever-so-slightly jostled, but then it stopped producing sound from the left channel altogether and the quirks stopped seeming so cute. I called Jude and described the problem. He picked the amp up and returned it sounding better than ever. I now have a restored amp that sounds great for less than I paid for it in its rusty, loose condition years ago. I would note that the quoted time frame was the Sunday following a Wednesday pickup, and it did take some phone tag to get the unit back, which ended up being two weeks after I first handed it off. My guess is that because we live in totally different parts of the city, Jude was trying to time the repair relative to when he could feasibly come my way, and from what he told me, the repair was somewhat more complicated than expected once he got around to it. Notably, this was during the stretch of winter when there were the two huge storms within a couple of weeks of each other, so that didn't help either. Delays like this obviously seem inherent to a one-person home operation, and I wouldn't have expected such a quick turnaround if not for the original quote (and other reviews mentioning quick turnarounds). He was always friendly and polite on the phone even as I worried I was pestering him. Overall, I felt the service lived up to my expectations. Given that he's a genuinely nice person providing a specialized service for reasonable prices and will pick up and drop off your gear for you (even if you don't live anywhere near Flatbush), I can't complain--just unfortunate timing that I found myself without a working stereo system out during a period when I was barely going outside. Still, I have a feeling it'll be sounding great for many seasons to come.

He treated it with the kind of respect and precision you just don't see much anymore. He was knowledgeable, communicative, and clearly passionate about old-school audio gear. Warm, clean, and alive again. He offered to pick it up and drop it off from my home. Instead we met halfway on a street corner! It felt a little strange just handing over my vintage baby to a complete stranger. But I knew from from his warm smile, and knowledge of the gear that I was in good hands. It took under a week and he did a fantastic job!! If you care about your vintage equipment and want someone who truly understands these pieces, Jude is your guy. Highly recommended.
