You know those times when a few days later you find yourself thinking about the dinner that was so good? This is one of those few places for me. For pizza with fresh and plentiful toppings this is a great place to go. The bases are freshly cooked and have that rustic homemade look (which I love). So many choices and the staff are very welcoming and helpful with menu recommendations. We had two entrees and two pizzas to share with four people and that was plenty. The menu has changed since some fellow Yelpers have been so I will upload new pictures. The drinks menu was fantastic. Plenty of wines and some great looking cocktails. I only had a Tuscan Dew this time, it was amazing. I will definitely be coming back with some other friends and to try other cocktails. read more

Tony Tomatoes has a nice looking menu, great beers and from the look of it, great cocktails. The only thing letting them down in my opinion is the pizza. I was expecting something special, but all three pizzas we ordered were below generic Italian cafe standard. Two of them came on square bases which looked pre-cooked and were more like Turkish bread than pizza bases. The third was on super thin base and was quite oily with low quality ingredients. I will give the place another try in the future though as it may have just been our choices or a bad night. The atmosphere and decor are great so hopefully it will be a better experience next time. read more

Like Zoe, we were sent here after not wanting to wait for a table at Ruby Red Flamingo. It turned out to be a great suggestion, and a good promotion for their other restaurant which we didn't know existed at the time. We were able to get a table with no wait. The restaurant was loud but comforting and warm. We were seated at a high table, which felt a bit precarious, perching on the high bar-stool-style chairs. We shared two pizzas between two people: A Superleggera "Eat My Breast" and a Thick Tony Special "Fun Guy". Two delicious pizzas on opposite ends of the crust thickness spectrum, and just what we needed. Tony Tomatoes have turned pizza into a food for the start of a respectable night out (as opposed to the greasy pizza you eat at the END of a night out ;) ) The pizza sizes aren't so big that you can't order a few to try the different toppings. Really awesome restaurant! Food comes super fast and is fresh and delicious. Only downsides are that its super loud inside and you can't hear the person next to you talking if it's busy. Also the waiters are all in casual clothing so it's a bit hard to tell who actually works there! Great pizza though! Really creative names on the menu. I've tried the fun guy pizza and it was delicious, although I probably needed a magnifying glass to spot the pear on the pizza (tiny tiny pieces, almost non-existent). Chocolate fondant for dessert is to die for!! You get two on a plate and oh my god, they're delicious. Definitely recommend trying! read more

Pleasantly surprised. From the outside this place looks like a chain, uncompromising, non-engaging, braced to deal with large numbers, meh... Staff are nice, and on a Tuesday evening, quite relaxed and pleasant place. Pizzas are quite good, 1/ person is probably the standard. Mushroom and prosciutto was a winner! House wine (at least the white) was fantastic for its price. Will keep this place in mind for the future. read more

Great place to dine with friends or on your own. Very friendly staff. This place certainly makes you feel like you are in Italy. Make sure you try the Arancini Balls. Pizzas are just beautiful and the food does not make you feel bloated. read more

We shared two pizzas and arancini balls amongst 3 quite hungry people and it defientely satsified us, without leaving a too full sickly feeling. There is a variety of bases to choose from which I've never really come across in Adelaide before, from gluten free, thin crusts & thick crusts. The pizzas were good but they weren't spectacular enough to have me hurrying back as soon as humanly possible. The staff are very helpful and attentive, just be sure to listen carefully because it gets quite loud when the place is full. Overall a delightful place for dinner but with O'Connell street offering such a great variety of amazing places to eat, I might try somewhere else before heading back here. read more

Being a friend of Ruby Red Flamingo, we had high hopes for Tony and he didn't disappoint! On a warm Friday night, we ran the gauntlet to get a table (as we were under the booking minimum), but we were able to get one outside with no wait. Drink orders were placed only minutes later, kick starting the fantastic level of service we received all night. Following the 'sharing is caring ' ethos of Ruby Red, we ordered the pork and veal polpette and the red radicchio, smoked scamorza cheese and red onion arancini as starters. The polpette were mouth-watering with their rich tomato sugo and the smoky flavour of the scamorza cheese through the arancini was amazing. Being a cheese freak, I decided on the playfully named, Jenny Craig Special in addition to our traditional selection of the prosciutto pizza. We chose the 72 hour special proved base which was a winner providing us with perfectly crisp bases from the wood oven fire. Making our way through the salty, runny goodness of the Jenny Craig, we were delighted with the pops of Gorgonzola. This was complemented by the prosciutto pizza which had a generous amount of freshly sliced prosciutto adorning the cheesy, tomato base with a hint of fresh basil. Tony Tomatoes certainly delivers on food, service and atmosphere. We will definitely add this to our list of regulars. read more

This place is ok. The pizza is good but I have had better. The atmosphere is alright and is located at quoted end of O'Connell St so easier to park. The gentleman greeting you is very rude and brash. Excellent pizzas, traditional Italian very tasty! Saturday night was packed luckily we got the last table. Staff are accommodating and friendly, moved some chairs and tables around so other people weren't bumping into our table. Prices are very good for area, top place to dine with plenty of selections from extensive menu. read more

Came in for an early dinner and was lucky to get the last table! The Stones playing later might have has something to do with this!! A friendly and quirky guy gave us some ex. Sicilian olives & took our order. Two of the more 'basic' pizzas & a 1/2 litre of Sangiovese Shiraz. You gotta love a pichet- so euro! The pizzas didn't take long (Margherita & salame) and they were thin crust beauties - just the right amount of topping. Could have been in Rome. Highly recommended! read more

I have never had such bad customer service! I walk in to the building, to join my fiancés birthday dinner as a surprise. The host walks up to me giving me the rudest attitude! The guy who owns the joint was lovely & polite, but this little man with an apron was horrible! I simply asked for an extra chair to pull towards the table, what I received was attitude and he belittling me. I was on the verge of tears. Pizza was great but wouldn't go back purely for the horrible welcome I received. Ruined my experience and night. read more

The food was decent, some interesting pizza combinations. However this place really failed in my eyes, when 3 of us decided to dine there on the spur of the moment on a very hot summers day. The waiters were friendly enough, but despite the place being entirely empty they insisted that the restaurant was full & that we must sit outside at a table in front of the place on the street. In the 45 minutes that we were there the place was extremely far from full, perhaps a few people came in after 30 minutes, and even then there were ample tables available. Had they told us that we could have a table if we would be done in 40 minutes that would have been acceptable, but they said no such thing. Seeing as the venue was almost empty for 45 minutes, I can assume we were selfishly placed on the street to make the restaurant seem busy & attract more customers. I came here on my birthday, no complaints in regards to the food however upon return to the table about 2 and half pizzas were thrown away without us being informed or asked... not to mention close to $500 was spent that night here. My friend had approached the waiter and discussed this with her and in return we had received complimentary vouchers. A week later we had returned to claim the complimentary pizzas but were rudely told the vouchers were only valid in store with 1 per customer, when the voucher had no terms and conditions and nothing stipulated just 'enjoy a free pizza on us next time' there was 2 of us and nothing stated with the pizzas already made and we were given refusal that the vouchers were non applicable to it being takeaway with absolutely nothing stated on the voucher itself in which is illegal if you don't state details on how to claim it or fine print - we were made to feel highly uncomfortable as we originally enjoyed the first experience but not sure if I would go back after dealing with such rudeness.. not to mention they hid my friends review and mine (on facebook) with no apology after belittling us in front of dining customers. Won't be returning again, I've never encountered such rudeness from a business before until now ! read more

Delicious food. Appalling service. Our booking was for a Sunday evening, and whilst the restaurant was busy, there was no indication that anyone was waiting for a table. We intended to order another couple of pizzas and perhaps another bottle of wine, but our table was cleared of glasses and plates immediately after we had finished our first course. My daughter was part way through her dessert when she turned to her friend to speak to her. At that point her dessert was actually cleared away!!! read more
