The Tonsley Hotel, situated on Main South Road, serves up your typical pub grub. The menu is varied with everything from your classic schnitzel, through to burgers, seafood and everything in-between. From the outside, the building looks like your standard tavern, however on the inside, it is quite well refurbished with a giant fireplace, a small games room and a wide variety of paintings and art.
In terms of sizing proportions, they are quite decent. I had a half schnitzel for around $15 for lunch and it was the perfect size. It was crumbed well, cooked nicely and was served in a very tasty, yet not too overpowering pepper gravy. The chips it was served with were very crispy and lightly salted. It was served on a small plate with a mini bowl of garden salad, which was nice however could have done with some dressing.
Staff were attentive, not too obtrusive and had a likeable personality. The waiting service works when everyone was paying on the same credit card, which was fortunate as we had a large group with one card. If you don't pay all on the same card, then there is no waiting service and you must pay individually at the main counter.
The staff recommended the garlic breads and chilli cheese breads as entrees before our main meal. The garlic bread was satisfactory however the cheese bread was quite bland and lacked good flavour. It was around 20 mins after ordering that these breads came out and around another 30 mins before dinner.
All in all, for pub grub, I was quite impressed. The venue has a good range of rooms and areas. From what I have heard, the tavern hosts good functions and caters well for such events. I would definitely come back to try a Tonsley burger, which quite a few of my family members tried while there for lunch, it certainly looked nice. read more
