I switched to this dentist because they take Fidelis, which I changed to recently. I've found them to be very professional and proficient, and recommend them to friends and family. Dr. Singh is only in a couple of days of the week due to his working in another office in Cortland part of the time, but they've still managed to schedule me in in a timely way, so I don't have to wait for appointments. They call to confirm appointments the day before; if you miss the call they ask you to call them to let them know you're planning on coming in. All of my appointments but one have started right on time, and the one that started late happened to fall on a very busy day; I wasn't kept waiting for longer than about 20 minutes. The office staff and the folks who do the x-rays and so on are all really friendly. Dr. Singh, who's done two root canals, a filling, and three crowns for me, isn't a big talker. But I've always found it awkward to respond to questions when people are working on my mouth so I don't mind! He's very courteous and quick, as are his assistants. I've also had a filling done by another dentist there (I forget his name) and he was very friendly and told me a funny story as he was finishing up. Everyone here is working quickly and there aren't a lot of extra explanations - they just dive right in and do the work. But I've asked questions and they do take the time to answer. Also, one of my root canals was very painful - a general infection in the area that required antibiotics prevented the pain medication from being as helpful as it should have been. They took the time to give me extra lydocaine and didn't mind waiting a moment when I was nervous and wanted to give it a moment to take effect. Oh, and the location and parking are very convenient - it's near the mall and there's always lots of room in the big parking lot out front. EDIT: I just had a cleaning today with Lauren. She was super nice and fun to talk to. She did an awesome job at cleaning my teeth, checking her work and then going back to work again on a spot she felt wasn't just right yet -- I appreciated the thoroughness. After the cleaning she gave me a little bag of samples (brush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash). She didn't try to sell me anything at all, just sent me on my way. While my initial review was 5 star because Dr. Rodriguez was excellent in all manners and form. My follow -up for the extraction was extremely unpleasant. Dr. Singh, who does this was a real brute with no bedside manners so to speak. The extraction required my bridge to be removed in order to extract the teeth. This was known from the beginning. They gave me one price and because Dr. Singh had a bit of difficulty removing the bridge, they added an extra $100 to my bill which since I was paying out of pocket, was no small change. While he was drilling, the debris entered my throat, and my involuntary reaction was to cough, Dr. Singh yelled at me , saying , "Don't spit me!" And treated me roughly. Needless to say. When I complained and refused him to make another bridge but requested the other Dentist. They not only stayed that she would do a bad job and I would be better off with him. Do not do business with Tompkins Dental. They are unprofessional, rude, and hostile to their customers. I made an appointment for both myself and my elderly father, both of us who are new patients. They scheduled us for appointments about 4 months out from when I placed the call, towards the end of summer. About a month before the appointment, they called to inform me that they would have to reschedule our appointment at the end of October. Unfortunately, by this time I had to be out of town, so I called them to cancel my appointment but kept the one for my dad. Unfortunately, my dad is sometimes forgetful and easily gets lost, as the elderly often do, and he was late to the appointment by about 15 minutes. This is why I try to accompany him to appointments whenever I can. Husband needed a tooth pulled. We went and they said all teeth were bad and should be pulled. No issue there as we knew this. We asked before we do this will our insurance cover all of the cost of them being pulled and the dentures. Said yes. They would call to confirm and let us know. Which they did do and called us back. We said great because not going to pull all teeth if not covered. So sent us to a biggier place to get all the teeth pulled. (This place did cover that part). Had them pulled and four weeks later we go back to start the process of the dentures at Tompkins Dental. To only walk in and be told we can't start work today as insurance didn't pay for your first visit. They call insurance and are told your practice is not a provider. So if we want them to do the work its $1200.00 out of our pocket we cannot afford that living on Social Security ! What part of were not pulling all the teeth if insurance wont pay. How did you not know your practice is out of network? It seems like we were mislead. We called twice to confirm full coverage and told we were good. The male dentist struck a nerve and caused my right eye to have double vision and blurry vision and refused to work on me and now I have to go to a specialist because he wiggled the needle and struck the nerve. So Tompkins Dental took out my remaining teeth and I got dentures through them in November. I love them. They took impressions of my remaining natural teeth so my smile would look the same . They walked me through the process and showed me the different quality they had. I chose the pricier ones. I had them put right in after extractions. Dr Singh did my extractions quickly but gently and with plenty of Novocain so i felt nothing. When ever I need adjustments I call and they get me in as soon as possible. TOMPKINS DENTAL SAID THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ANYMORE I have been having severe tooth pain for three months and found that Tompkins dental accepts my insurance. I found out that this was a huge mistake. I have not been able to drink or bite anything with one side of my teeth because of the severe pain. The pain that throbs. Even after my 3rd visit, my pain is still the same. The WORST THING IS that the dentist said there is nothing their office can do anymore. What kind of dentist says that? I wanted to get treated for my pain not for cleaning, pulling out wisdom tooth that is not severe. I have lost 10 pouns over the 2 months because I could only drink foods with one side of my teeth. He wants to make patients wait and come back for another appointment that takes another 3 weeks. FYI, I have been using sensitive toothpaste and toothbrush. What happened over the 2 months : First office was visit for cleaning. One issue that I specifically mentioned was my tooth pain on my bottom right side. During thr cleaning, the dental hygienist was cleaning the pain spot tooth and I had to ask her if she could please stop for a second due to severe pain. She thankfully pointed out which tooth it was and told me to talk to the dentist. When the dentist came, I mentioned him about the pain and he said that THE PAIN SHOULD DISAPPEAR since the pain was due to non-cleaning. Without saying much he was about to leave. But I stopped him and asked him about my wisdom tooth. And then he told me that I should remove it and I should make appointment for it. I wish he could have told me that before he was about to leave. Before my second visit of wisdom tooth removal, the pain on my tooth did not go away but got worse. I also noticed that there was a black line on the tooth(see the picture). I used toothpick to slightly touch the line and it became painful. So I had to call the office to see if there is any appointments sooner. Thankfully I got rescheduled within 2 weeks of my first appointment. I sent receptionist a text message to confirm that the appointment is for my tooth pain evaluation and wisdom tooth removal. I got a message back saying yes. But when I spoke with the dentist on my second visit, the dentist had no idea about my tooth pain evaluation. He said I have to wait for next appointment. Really? So I had to show him the picture and he started to examine it. He used the air spray on that tooth and he said I might have to fill it if the temporary solution that he would use does not work. So he put the solution and took out my wisdom tooth removal. I was dismissed but the tooth pain got worse. I kept losing weight. Third visit was harder. When I called the receptionist that I still have the pain and the dentist said I might have to fill it, the receptionist looked at my file and said I do not need to fill my tooth. And I said but the dentist said I might need to fill it. But the receptionist said I do not need to. You are not a dentist lady. I finally got an appointment through another receptionist and saw the dentist on Monday. My thrid visit, after the x-ray, the dentist said that I should fill another tooth not the tooth that he put the solution. I was confused because during my second visit he specifially said my golden filling tooth could have been grinded. I asked him if he is sure and he said yeah. I wanted to insist but the injection was already near my mouth. So he filled the other tooth and and now it has been 3 days and the pain is getting worse daily. read more

This place is a factory run office and I could tell that with the amount of people that were in and out that this was no place I would get anything done! I saw there was only one dentist running around try to get as many people done as he could. I saw 2 people come out after extractions and they looked like they were in terrible pain. Blood soaked gauze filled their mouths. Bad sign. When I finally got to see the dentist I said I just wanted a referral for an oral surgeon. 0 stars! Is more like it. The dentist was rude and inconsiderate, he was rushing around to get everyone done. He has NO bedside manner. First off they called me the day before, asking if I could come in early instead of my scheduled appointment the following week. I agreed. It was to start the process of my crowns. I was excited because this was suppose to have happened three years ago but my prior dentist left. Now I get there 30 minutes early to sign paper work, and as a courtesy. This man first off made me feel like shit because I brought my 4 month old daughter with me, since I'm a stay at home mom and my boyfriend had to work. She only fussed a little and a sweet technician came and gave her binkie every time it happened. Then this man left to go work on someone else, came back and I can feel he's rushing in my mouth as he's shaving everything down. Then all of a sudden a HUGE chunk of my tooth hit the back of my throat making me cough. He started screaming at me "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!?" Like I intentionally coughed. He starts yelling at me about sitting still, I'm acting like a child, and ect. Which at this point I start crying. He then makes this other woman feel like a bad mom because she brought her young daughter with her as well. I felt like shit. A lot of the issues I was already having with him just drilling and hurting me could've been avoided if he did what I asked and told me what he was doing, I would've been much more at ease. After I get my permanent crowns I will be looking for another dentist. He also perscribed Naproxen to me when I got my root canal done, I had no Pain. My boyfriend got a tooth pulled and three weeks later is still in so much pain he doesn't like chewing. UPDATE: I just returned from the latest trip to my new dentist; it took two visits - and more than $600 - to repair the damage done by Tompkins Dental. New doc said I have a case for professional misconduct, but that would have required further delay to obtain photos and other proof of the damage, and I just wanted everything fixed ASAP. The broken tooth (ie: the one that likely did NOT need work and was further weakened by TD) is very damaged, and ideally would have been repaired with a crown, but that would have cost me $1,300, so I went with a filling instead. It may still need a crown within a year, apparently. Hopefully I'll be on a different insurance plan by then (have I mentioned how much I detest GHI too?) The other tooth, the one with "bad contact" that TD claimed was fine, was even a bigger nightmare to fix. I was in the chair for an hour. Once he got in there, new dentist discovered that in filling one tooth, TD had gouged into the adjoining tooth, requiring two fillings to repair, both in really awkward places. There is little I regret in life, but going to Tompkins Dental is definitely high up there. read more

Friendly staff, and generally nice people. Takes insurance. But they overbook. Work on a belt conveyor operation. Every time you go, you see a different dentist. Hygienist remains the same - she's nice. But the dentists - they drill too much. The more they drill, the more money for them. Of course, that's the nature of the business. Once they insisted that my wisdom tooth needed to come out. I didn't like the idea, but they forced it on me. After the extraction, I asked to see the tooth which was supposed to have a terrible decay. They said it was biohazard and thus I cannot. My own tooth, biohazard? I'm not sure about that. . My molar next to the extracted wisdom tooth is hard to get to with a toothbrush, calling for more work and attention getting it clean. the removal of the tooth also made the molar a little more "free" standing, creating a new space between teeth there, making food stuff to get stuck. I have to floss more often and I'm not happy. My other wisdom teeth is still there after 2 years and I have no problem with that one. I asked for a copy of my x-ray and they gave me such a hard time about giving one to me. I requested a year ago to have it sent to a new dentist. They said they would, and I recently learned that they haven't done so. I emailed, no response. I called, and they said the printer is broken. Great, broken like a whole year? Right. I finally got a copy, but it doesn't seem to be of the whole teeth set. I'm going to go back if that's the case. You have a right to obtain a copy of your x-ray. The American Dental Association has stated that it is unethical for a dentist to withhold x-rays even if a balance is due by the patient. read more

Performed Surgery For No Apparent Reason. I switched to Tompkins Dental because they accepted my dental insurance. I had had no cavities since I was 12, do not drink soda or eat sugar outside of fruits. Dr. Singh looked in my mouth for 20 s and said I had 2 cavities, which would have been my first! I stupidly returned to have them taken out. BUT the surgical dentist could not find them! He nonethless proceeded to numb and operate for 20 mins, and then charge me $300. After going to Ormsby (does not accept my insurance) and being told that my teeth were healthy, I decided not to return to Tompkins Dental. They nonetheless scheduled appointments for me that I did not approve of, and repeatedly called and emailed me to attend them! This dentist is assuredly trying to make $$ in ethically questionable ways. I wish my employer, Cornell, did not approve of them. read more

Not a very good dentist. I only went there because it accepted 100% of my insurance. They didn't want to do all the work I needed and I had to go back and have a filling they put in repaired as they didn't do it properly. They said the small cavities I have don't matter! I think I will rebook for a second opinion once I have my wisdom teeth removed by the oral surgeon in Ithaca in a few weeks time. The receptionists and the hygenist are very professional but the dentist was not and really didn't care about any questions I had about my dental care. I went here to get my filling refilled since it was worn down. During the procedure, the dentist was flirting with the nurse instead of focusing on my procedure. Somehow, possibly due to his inattentiveness, he screwed up twice and had to grind and "refill" the same tooth two times. Due to putting tremendous shock to the tooth (and possible the unsanitary conditions), the nerves in that area started to die and get infected. As a result, what was supposedly a standard procedure of getting my fillings replaced ended up forcing me to get a root canal surgery in a different dentistry. My insurance doesn't cover root canal surgery, so I had to cover the full cost. I highly urge you to stay clear of this dentistry. They lack skills, professionalism, and will end up causing you much more trouble than is called for. read more

If you're looking for a dentist in Ithaca, don't settle for this place just because they are one of the few offices taking new patients. There's a reason for that. I have talked to literally no one that had a positive experience at this dentist and I am no exception. First, on the positive side, they do take most insurances. It's also conveniently located with lots of parking. If you are going for just a cleaning, they do a pretty good job there too. Now on to the bulk of the review. I never had an appointment that started on time, which is pretty common in the medical field, but still worth mentioning. Since the hours are 8-5, I try to take the least amount of time off from work possible and not being on time sort of stretches that out, which isn't great. I had some cavities that needed fillings and I requested the fillings that my insurance covered and they recommended something more long lasting. I declined and said I wanted the insurance covered fillings. MONTHS LATER (the billing process is SUPER slow) I received a bill showing that I had been given the other fillings anyway and now had to pay for them. Another insurance blunder comes with xrays. They will take all of the xrays every time even though some xrays are only covered once annually. Make sure you know which those are because they are expensive. Like many other reviews, they tried to convince me that I needed my wisdom teeth out and that they were causing my lymph nodes to swell. Turns out that wasnt the case and my orthodontist said my wisdom teeth were fine. So I avoided getting those out. They also told me that my orthodontics weren't working well enough so I needed to have some more work done with that. In the meantime they also told me I needed a sleep guard for grinding my teeth at night. They took the mold and sent me back to my orthodontist. Then the guard came in and didn't fit because, surprise, my teeth shifted like they wanted. In retrospect I should have logically questioned that but I didn't. The sleep guard was also supposed to be covered by my insurance but it wasn't. When I tried to appeal it I couldn't get my billing information in a format that my insurance would take. I had to physically go to the office each time to get the print outs and then wait to see if insurance would take them. Despite my very clear instructions of what my insurance wanted, I always got something different and eventually they basically filibustered me until insurance wouldn't cover it and I had to pay. Finally, if you DO go to this dentist, you should also know that there is a fee for not showing up, but the system will also automatically schedule you for appointments and send you notice through the mail which sometimes arrive the day before the appointment telling you to call if you can't make the appointment. If you have an issue with certain billing things, they are patient and listen to your concern (my billing file had an updated cost once that described me as "very frustrated" in the notes) and will adjust if they can so I doubt they would actually charge a no show fee in this case, but with the other negligence, who knows. read more

Terrible experience. The nurse was very nice, helping clean my teeth carefully. But the dentist was the most arrogant doctor I have ever met. She did not want to spend one extra minute with me, just talking to the nurse and staff. I have to ask the nurse and the staff for her opinion. She was too busy hopping among different patients. I was not given even a second to ask one question. What you can only do there is lying down and let the dentist do whatever she wants to do with your teeth and pay the bill! If you are used to fancy dentist you might want to stay away. It is certainly no frills, but I have gone there for a few years now (cleanings only). They seem to have lots of client there for "extractions", and less worried about keeping their teeth then I am. They are the only place around that takes my insurance or I am not sure I would go to them... However paying $0 vs $150 twice a year is worth it. I do not think I am sacrificing much for saving $300. I was having a cavity filled and the dentist wouldn't stop drilling although I was raising out of the chair in pain repeatedly telling the dentist to stop because of pain, and I am no Nancy Boy. I had a full sweat going complete with soaked shirt. He kept saying "Almost done". I demanded to see a supervisor who promptly checked and determined that the anesthesia was not working at all and gave me another shot. After the anesthetic kicked in, I calmly received my filling. They unceremoniously tore teeth out of my kids that were marginally in need of extraction and filled many that didn't seem to need it. This organization ONLY wants your money. I just called to see if I could get in, after not having gone ANYwhere for 3 years... I was hoping they could look at a tooth I have that needs to be extracted and maybe, save the tooth or teeth. The receptionist told me if I came back to Dr. Singh, I would have to agree to ONLY see him and not bounce back & forth from dentist to dentist... huh??? AND.. if I would agree to see only him - he would then, agree to see me. I had gone to Tompkins Dental for 5 years and in that five years they never met a tooth that needed filling (well, maybe a few) but what they saw was always a need for a new crown or partial every time I went...big money versus little fixes... Also - they are the ONLY dental facility I have ever visited - and I've been to many - that argued with the patient, or worse, a doctor with another doctor in front of the patient. Dr. Singh is rude, arrogant and MEAN! No kidding! No exaggeration. None of my crowns match the bite..meaning when I bite down - my crowns are too high or too low... and are ineffective as grinding tools. - and ...it takes from 3 to 5 visits to have a root canal and crown completed... I would imagine for billing purposes. When asked if the rude receptionist had seen their reviews on Yelp - she responded, "well, no I haven't" and I said "well, you should take a moment" to which she replied, "well, if we are that bad maybe you wouldn't like to come here", to which I replied.... "exactly"! and hung up! Apparently, she had seen them - why else would she conclude the negative? ... make me promise to see him and only him??? what a crock! If it didn't take 5 visits to do a root canal and crown - and if you would have taken the time to do small fillings rather than the big jobs each time... you care more about the big money than the big picture which would have been - to save TEETH! If I could give a 0 star rating I would. This is a terrible place to go. I am 18 years old and my teeth are terrible because of this place. I had trauma caused by impact on my chin and it had caused the nerves to die, I had 7 abscesses ( and they would just send me off with antibiotics) for them to realize that I needed root canals in 4 of my teeth. When they finally got to doing the root canals they had done it WHILE it was INFECTED and didn't even finish it, there was pus literally coming out of my teeth while they were working on them. I have had about 3 fillings and even those were done bad, I had gone to a new dentist and they said the dentist who did my fillings did them WAY too close to my nerves so now I have pain from it... I am looking for a lawyer right now because it isn't sitting right with me that they let this go on, they would say that they were going to fix it when I have my next appointment but would check my teeth for about 2 minutes and send me off to say the same thing next appointment. The dentist literally goes off and does other people's teeth in the middle of fixing your teeth as well and that doesn't seem right. I have also heard SO many people who have gone to this dentist who have had almost the same experience as me, he doesn't seem to care. One thing I can say about this place is that the other people who work there seem nice, the main dentist on the other hand doesn't really seem to care enough about his patients to even fix the pain that HES CAUSING. read more

I brought a relative here last fall for a procedure. I was NOT impressed at the time. Very dirty, dusty exam rooms and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed. We had a follow up last week and the difference in a few months was like night and day. The office is very visibly cleaner and even the staff seemed happier. Maybe they have new management? I'm strongly suspicious that this place is doing extra, unnecessary work to my teeth. My previous dentist found one new cavity in six years, and never recommended anything like a deep cleaning. Then my insurance changed, and about eight months after my last visit with my previous dentist I went to Tompkins Dental. Tompkins Dental found three new cavities in one year. Then on my third visit the dentist said I had some bone loss and recommended that I get a deep cleaning. I floss every day and my gums don't bleed, in addition to the fact that I've been going to dentists throughout my whole life and have never had a dentist say anything about a deep cleaning. Also the bone loss may have happened years ago, so that isn't a reason for a deep cleaning. The hygienist did a test to see how much bone loss I had. She explained it quickly but gave me enough information to read between the lines: my bone loss was minimal, and any cleaning that was needed had already been done with the routine cleaning that i had just received. They had to get approval from the insurance to do the deep cleaning. I'm assuming they didn't get the approval because it has been a few weeks now and they haven't called me about it. Regardless they won't be doing anything more to my teeth because I'm going to try a different dentist. The hygienists and staff in general were all very polite, but that isn't going to make up for fraud or incompetence on the part of the dentist. read more

The guy Doctor and nurses were the most rudest people I have ever met!!! They seem like they must hate their job! I told the nurse that I have two teeth that ache and I do not want the doctor touching ONLY those teeth, what she told me was that I could not tell the doctor what to do and the doctors going to do what he feels he needs to do.. and since I said that, the doctor, the nurse and BOTH ladies at the front desk told me that he is not going to see me now due to me having an "attitude" stating that I have a tooth ache.. and don't want those specific teeth touched.. I've been going to this place for years and I've only had ONE good experience there!! read more

This is the worst experience I ever had with Dental Cares. I would rate 0 if I can. The first visit was for cleaning and the assistants at the office were cold and rude. I did not pay much attention and I think they might be in a bad mood that day. THAT is my BIGGEST MISTAKE. After cleaning, I was scheduled for fillings. But they canceled my appointment twice and I was told to reschedule. During this period, I started a toothache. I went to the front desk in person and rescheduled my canceled-twice filling appointment. I explained everything to them about the filling appointment, about the toothache and I was canceled twice. They booked me for another filling appointment. During the waiting, they called and wanted to reschedule me again, I cannot. When I showed up, I was in xray room and told that I am here today for checkup rather than fillings because I had a toothache. I tried to explain to the assistant that I was scheduled for fillings. Yes, I did have a toothache but I did not schedule for that! She looked at me with a very unhappy face as I caused all the problems. I tried to explain to the doctor, and the doctor said that he has no time for two fillings, only one today, that I have to reschedule again. I was very upset and cannot imagine what happened. For this one appointment, they scheduled me three times, called me several times. I showed up to front desk to assure my appointment and they still did not make it right. I still did the filling because I do not want to waste my time. I asked for vacation hours for this appointment. As previously, they finished everything harshly and did not say anything warm. The treatment process was not a comfortable one. I would like to ask questions about my uncomfortable feelings and the doctor has little time for them. I can write another 0-start review about the treatment process. My whole tooth, mouth, face felt so bad when I got out of the office. I am not a difficult patient; however, nobody should be treated like this. This is my only one star review on Yelp. It is like; they have no time to be nice with the patient. They did not feel sorry and said sorry. They even did not say something nice. They did not want to communicate with the patient and they do not care. They messed up thing and then talking to you like this is your fault. All I felt is a very unfriendly, unprofessional, horrible office. I will never go to this dental again. And I think I will warn all my local friends and my community. read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This place really traumatized me. Completely unprofessional, dirty, questionable dental work, and carelessness are not the things anyone should look for in a dental practice. I highly advise people not to go here, my family took me here because they accepted our insurance, but they tried to do more work than what was needed, as told to us by a more reputable practice, and caused me a lot of pain. This place should be shut down. Not only did they drill a ton of holes in my teeth and filled them where there were NO cavities, one of the fillings given to me was drilled too close to the outside of my tooth, eventually breaking my tooth practically in half. The tooth hasn't been in pain for months and months and I've been too afraid to go back to any dentist, as it's bad enough I'm fearful, but this practice really did traumatize me. Hands down the WORST dental work I've ever seen. I'm honestly pissed because I got work done by them at 17, I'm now 19, and they have honestly ruined my teeth and I can't afford to completely repair the damage they've done. I just moved to New York in October 2016, and after years of neglect finally decided to see a dentist. I chose Tompkins Dental since they are in the same vicinity as where I do most of my errands, and boy am I glad I did! From my very first visit, and throughout my assessment process and final results (extraction and dental plates) the staff and Dr Singh have been nothing short of amazing. The ladies at the front desk (Angela, Emily and Kristen) have always been pleasant and helpful scheduling my appointments and reminding me the day prior to my visits. Dr. Singh and his wonderful staff were very professional and informative regarding my procedure and most importantly were non-judgmental regarding my prior neglect. As of June 29th, Tompkins Dental has given me my smile back, and I couldn't by happier!! Thanks again to everyone there who made this possible and rest assured, your facility and staff will get nothing but kudos and praise from this satisfied patient!! I had a broken tooth and needed an extraction. It was an unsanitary environment but I had no other options. I informed the dentist the numbing agent wasn't working, with tears streaming down my face. He told to stop being a baby, that they were just pulling a tooth. They didn't like that I was crying so they brought in the "nice" dentist who basically gouged and dug my tooth out for an hour. I was numbed up at that point. The after care was horrible. I got a dry socket and couldn't sleep for a week because of the pain. I had to go back 2x after the initial visit because I wasn't healing properly and needed more antibiotics. Don't go, in my opinion they should be shut down. Our community definitely deserves better quality care no matter who can or can't afford it because of insurance bullcrap. read more

After being recommended to TD by someone who gave a positive review I decided to schedule an appointment for a cleaning and examination of my root canal/crown that I had put in about 10 months ago. After scheduling my appointment I checked Yelp for reviews and was nervous to see more bad reviews than good. Either way, I was having pain under my crown so I needed some type of professional opinion/care quick. Basically, not more than 2 minutes after I'm seated in the chair waiting for my cleaning I hear this man somewhere around me say loudly, "This is the worst dentist I've ever been to! I've been sitting here for 30 minutes". One of the workers apologizes and says they're very busy with only one dentist. To which the patient responds, "Then don't over-book this many people if you know you can't accommodate everyone with one dentist"....can't argue there. Before I make it out, I end up also waiting 30 minutes just sitting in the chair waiting to be seen. That's 30 minutes I was actually counting..it may have been more. The cleaning that was done hurt more than any cleaning I've ever had. The woman who cleaned my teeth was just very very aggressive. Every time she would push the floss between my teeth it would dig in to my gums after making it through because she was using so much force...and my teeth are pretty easy to get floss through. She used a small drill type file to chip away at anything in between my teeth and kept running my gums over with it which also hurt. During all of this she was running water through my mouth to wash away anything she frees up with her tools, which is understandable but there was so much water! So much..I was being water-boarded. When the dentist came in to examine my teeth he was explaining he could file away the crown some to possibly relieve some pressure I may be experiencing due to an uneven bite, but in doing this it would reveal the metal part of the crown. Another option he mentioned is filing away my actual tooth that the crown comes in to contact with. He asked me what I wanted to do and I was like..."I don't know, you tell me..is exposing the metal part of the crown bad? If so, I guess we have to file away my actual tooth, which I would rather not do" and then the hygienist/his assistant advised to file the crown and not my actual tooth and why. When this was decided the dentist went to do this and then the hygienist stopped him and told him we need x-rays first(because the crown may not be seated properly)...which they had to do 3 times...Honestly, it seemed like the dentist didn't know as much as the hygienist...and there was an overall tension in the air between the employees. The kind of tension where they knew they weren't giving the greatest care to all the patients. You could see it in their nonverbals. Eventually, a few of the staff came back and said they don't want to touch the crown because its not seated properly and my ligaments around my tooth seem inflamed and something is wrong, so it a liability for them. They told me to g back to the dentist who did the root canal. I would've liked to have been told this over the phone before I made the appt. If you don't mess with issues with crowns then you should've specified. Overall, it seemed disorganized and the staff was inexperienced. One positive thing was they did get me in pretty quick after I got there for my appointment and scheduling it. UPDATE: I went back to the dentist that did my crown who gave me an oral examination and said I had no cavities. Tompkins Dental tried to tell me I had 4!!!
