Tommy's Pub is a Charlotte treasure, I popped in yesterday, walked into a small group of friendly folks day drinkin'. Count me in. The absolute best thing about Tommy's beside the awesome service is the way it is set up, you can sit in the back if you like a cool, dark place for your Summertime, afternoon Whiskey or sit in the front with sunlight if you hate to sit in a dark bar, or hell, there are even a few seats outside for al fresco drinking! Follow them on Instagram, @pubtommys they just posted $3 Modelo, $5 Palomas and @carlitos_dogs serving up empanadas. Man, am I going there again today?

I'm a member of a country club. Tommy's Club and Pub that is. Seeing that I was with Tonya when I visited this fine dive bar, I don't have much to add. Aesthetically speaking, Tommy's is about as divey as you get. It's kind of like being in your neighbor's grandpa's basement bar in upstate New York. Bars on the window, cracked vinyl bar stools, yellowing newspapers strewn about, a few empty crock pots lined up against the wall from their last pot luck, some drunk stranger asleep at the bar. Although NC outlawed smoking in bars this year, no amount of time or Pine-Sol will diminish the smell of long-ago smoked Lucky Strikes or fade the nicotine from the paneled walls and fixtures. That's okay though. Makes it real when you're sitting in a bar at 3:00 in the afternoon listening to Merle Haggard records. I didn't see darts of foosball--maybe I missed them. For sure, Tommy's needs a few bar games. Jimmie Mac, the bartender, is a treasure. Be sure to spend some time reading the politically incorrect bumper stickers and signs posted every where. Don't take them personally. I didn't.

Beer is cheap, free music, cramped, smokey, eccentric, dusty, dirty, friendly staff. It's pretty much everything you'd want in a dive bar. I'm not sure how they get away with the smoking in here but it's still a safe haven for those who like to light up a cigarette while they cocktail. I've become kinda accustomed to not smelling like a ash tray (call me spoiled) when I'm out and about or else I would have given this place 5 stars. The bands are awesome as well. It's usually a lot of local people just jamming out and you kinda get the feel like they came and set up right in your living room to play specifically for you.

Kick ass band here for World Goth Day, 30 Sick Year! Ok and now to the rest of the bar - read the description. It's a dive bar and proud of it. Decorated mostly with diverse sets of memorabilia, it's also decorated with some locals as well. Fast bar staff, and potent drinks. Good Times.

Tommy's on the end.

Nice little hole in the wall bar. Friendly staff. NASCAR stuff everywhere. Reminds me of bars back home in WV.

The bar is divey, and you can find very cheap drinks, especially if you go for the daily specials. The bartenders are nice - beware that they do keep your card if you keep your tab open - and seem to know the regulars. In addition to monthly bingo, they seem to host drag events, have video games and board games available to play, as well as several TVs. Plus, dogs can go inside and out. The bar does not serve food, though usually there is a vendor there. Looking forward to next month!

There is no food but they have cheap drinks, old school games, a spacious patio, and they host cool events like bingo night. Their motto is "Mind your P's and Q's" which I found amusing. I have only been in a few times so I can comment on if their patrons typically adhere to this code of conduct! Overall I think it is worth checking out if you've never been and maybe it will grab you and you will want to become a regular. Me personally it's a little out of the way to become a regular haunt located in between Plaza and NoDa but not walking distance from either. Also it's not that the service was ever unfriendly but I just didn't feel like it was my vibe. Still a cool bar though and I can see why other enjoy it.

It was fairly busy, but we walked in without a reservation and were seated indoors right away. We ordered two Guinnesses, the Mussels appetizer (with garlic bread), and split the Fish & Chips plate. Everything was incredible. The cod was perfectly beer-battered, the hand-cut chips were crisp and hearty, and the green peas and tartar sauce rounded it out beautifully. The mussels and garlic bread were also delicious (even ordered a second garlic bread). I would 100% order both dishes again. Our server was also friendly, attentive, and gave honest, helpful recommendations. Prices felt fair for the quality, and the overall experience hit all the right notes. We've already recommended it to friends and will definitely be back. A cozy, welcoming spot for comfort food done right.

It's always felt like a place where you can just be yourself, and that's why I keep coming back decade after decade. That said, one suggestion: it may be time to upgrade the TVs. The space carries a relaxed, slightly bohemian charm: the kind of place where regulars settle in comfortably and newcomers feel instantly at home. The menu offers several standouts, but two dishes in particular deserve mention. The chicken tenders--made from whole chicken breast, lightly battered, and fried to a crisp, golden finish--remain a perennial favorite. Equally memorable is the salmon sandwich, prepared with sushi-grade salmon cooked to order and served on a buttery croissant bun. Both options showcase the kitchen's commitment to simple, thoughtful ingredients prepared with care. Service is steady and pleasant, and Tory is consistently a highlight. Professional, attentive, and genuinely knowledgeable, she has a talent for transforming an ordinary evening out into something a bit more special.
