So we visited Tommys last night for family dinner after I googled who has the best steak and cheese in the area? Well OMG it definitely did not disappoint. We got two different subs the large steak and cheese with provolone and the large chicken cheesesteak with fixings. When I say the steak and cheese was one of the best that I have had in many years. You just gotta believe me.!!! we will definitely go back as the food was delicious! The staff was super friendly and the restaurant very clean and comfortable! What's even better is they are a small family business and not a major chain which I absolutely adore! read more

Truly, the best pizza we have had in years! We are so tired of bad pizza, commercial pizza. those huge rounds of mediocre ingredients on an awful crust. Now for Tommy's Pizza: simply the best. As soon as we saw it, we knew it was grand. Here was a pizza with a beautiful sense of tomatoes and cheese and a perfect crust, both crunchy and charred. It is exactly the way a pizza should taste. In Shepherdstown for an annual Guy's weekend 2019. Sunday night, last night and looking for a last meal that was going to be enjoyable and non nutritional focused! PIZZA !! We all agreed this was our goal. Thanks to a very few reviews Tommy's came up. We had a short walk to the place and it didn't disappoint at all. FRESH BAKED PIZZA according to our specifications and it was delicious. We also ordered wings - buffalo style- and they were 8/10. Deliciousness in meatiness and -2 in texture and lack of crispness ( personal preference?). I think this place deserves a respect of durability- if this place can operate for 40 years, we need to respect they are doing it right by their customers whether or not the casual guest rates it one way or the other. read more

I moved to town a couple of weeks ago and one of the first things I did was try to find a good pizza place. Maybe I was just lucky, but Tommy's was the first one I tried, and I've ordered from them 3 or 4 times already. The guy on the phone is a man of few words, but that suits me just fine. The pizza is great. I think that most pizza places get by with tasteless crust and bland cheese... not Tommy's. Tommy's crust has a great flavor and the cheese is great. Also, sausage is my topping of choice. So many times, sausage is not a good topping on the East Coast. Most places tend to use the sliced sausage instead of the crumbled sausage. Tommy's uses crumbled sausage that has a great flavor. I don't know if they make it in house, but it tastes great. I will definitely continue to come back. read more

On October 29th, 2019 my wife and I were passing through from Ohio. We walked into the place at about 7pm. There was an older gray haired man and a younger woman behind the counter. Not one customer in the place. Wife says to the older man...Hello, how are you today? He looks at her and looks at me and then goes back to work. The woman kept her back turned. We stood there for a few minutes and then left. Not sure what the deal was or why he couldn't say hi but I'd not recommend the place when they can't even acknowledge a customer. read more

It's your usual eastern panhandle pie wherein NYC Pizza had a kid with Dominos pizza and the pizza kid doesn't know who the hell it is. The pizza and buffalo wings are DELICIOUS! They also had a special for a one-topping large pizza for about $12 including tax (while their small is about $2 less than that). The food is reasonably priced, especially for the quality. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza and order of 10 wings to-go. One thing was we got ranch (usually prefer blue cheese with our wings). Also not sure why everyone says the owner is rude or not friendly. He seemed friendly enough. He's just not a smiley person, but he was polite. Not a dealbreaker for us, especially having met some grumpy restaurant employees and owners throughout the DMV. He's still nicer than most of them. The only reason I didn't give the place 5 stars is because the restaurant itself looks a little outdated, but also not a dealbreaker. We just get our food to-go. We were driving through town and wanted pizza. Relatively small restaurant with not much in dining area. Customer service was average, just got the feeling we were interrupting their day. Please note, they only took cash, no credit/debit cards, which is odd. Pizza was made fresh in front of us., and was served quickly. Pizza was very delicious. This place is a true hidden gem. The pizza is AMAZING! I always ask for it a little well done, but even if you don't ask its still perfect. The steak and cheese sub is delicious! Prices are great, and I've never had a complaint about anything I've gotten there. I would definitely recommend trying the food, company and atmosphere. It's a cute little place that's cozy and welcoming. note: there is two other pizza places local to Shepherdstown, but NEITHER of them are as good and as affordable as Tommy's. read more

Being that we aren't in NYC nor in an area that seems to care about NYC pizza Tommy's was good. Being that my husband and I are in the pizza business we like trying the local mom and pop! We saw Tommy's on s flyer advertising restaurants in town. You have to take all the dining in Shepardstown with an understanding of where you are. We had a cheese pizza with a nice doughy crust, again not New York style but flavorful and cheesy! The beer was cold and watching "Tommy" cook and answer phones brought back great memories! God love them for being in business since 1975, that in itself is impressive enough! Support the mom and pop! His focus wasn't service it was getting his product out in a timely and fresh manner! If I could give less than a star I would! Me and my mother stopped by near closing time hoping to grab a slice or 2 of pizza. We walked inside and the owner right away seemed very aggressive. We were very polite and asked if he had any left over pizzas from the day or something to that degree. He looked at us and proceeded to ignore us and go back to work. My mother (being very frustrated) decided to run to the rest room and allow me to talk with the older man. As soon as she started walking towards the restroom he began to approach her in an aggressive manner and started yelling at her saying only paying customers were allowed to use it. My mother ( thank god she isn't shy ) gave him a piece of her mind and we proceeded to leave. Aside from the roach infested interior and moldy yellow walls, we thought to give this small town pizzeria a shot. Not a chance in hell you will catch me anywhere near this place after our experience. Owner should be shutdown if he can't provide a clean restaurant or even the slightest bit of human kindness. Also I am mixed ethnicity's so it could have been a racial thing or the owner is just bonkers!!!! Not much to look at in terms of the building but good access to the older part of town. The owner wasn't the friendliest either, but the pizza we ordered was yummy and hit the spot. The crust was particularly good with a good yeast flavor. We had one basic cheese and one with mushrooms, which were fresh and not from a can. Service was quick. My bf found this place when he was googling for good pizza and he wanted to try this place because of all the good reviews. It's very easy to find and it has a small off-street parking lot. Its very "divey", and its not well lit up so we weren't sure they were open at first until we saw the little "open" sign hanging in the window. We walked in and it is very small inside, there are a few booths and tables but we chose to do carry-out since we don't live very far. Please know before going that they are CASH ONLY. The owner will make sure you're aware of that when you order and there is a sign hanging on the counter. Luckily my bf saw from a review he read that it was cash only so we came prepared. We were going to do pizza, but we decided we were craving subs so we ordered two small subs, one meatball and one chicken parmigiana. They were very tasty!!! Didn't take long for the order to be done either considering the owner is the only one that runs the place from the looks of it. We also ordered some french fries, they are your standard ones that are frozen from a bag but they actually tasted pretty good!! We went back again on New Years Day to actually try the pizza and OH MY GOD. I don't know how I'm going to be able to eat any other pizza. The crust is not too thin and crispy, which I hate, but it's also not too doughy either. The sauce, cheese and pepperoni went so well together. It IS greasy, but I'd be concerned if it wasn't greasy to be honest. Very reasonably priced too, I believe a large pizza for us was close to $14, and it tastes soooo much better than Domino's which is the only other pizza option for us around here. Pizza, honestly, is not one of my "favorite" foods so I can't compare Tommy's to many places outside of my area. However, as a student at Shepherd I've visited every pizza place in town and this is by far my favorite. The food is always fresh and tasty. The food is all around delicious and wayyyy better than what you'll get at Tony's. What you sacrifice at Tommy's is customer service, but that's not why you go there!
