This place is always a favorite of ours. I have never had bad food here, and never had bad service. The rotating seasonal menu is always a nice departure from some Italian restaurants that have the same menu all the time. We are big fans of the garlic knots. The Capri salad is always spot on. Both the minestrone and the potato soup seemed to always hit the spot. There is enough variety with flatbread pizzas and pasta that this makes a perfect spot for a family dinner. It was not a busy Sunday evening, so it was easy to walk right in and be seated. Every time we have dined at this Tomatina location, the ambiance has been pleasant and not high noise levels at all. Humberto was our server and did an excellent job! Our order modifications were accommodated and Humberto was patient and kind. Other team members helped serve our food and take care of our requests, like extra napkins and more water. Service here has been top notch every time we have dined here. The seasonal specials sign in front of the restaurant caught our attention and influenced our order selections. I love butternut squash anything, so of course, I ordered the butternut squash ravioli. The smooth, light, and creamy, sauce melted the ravioli in my mouth and the flavors with the cranberry made salty, sour, and sweet dance on my tongue. The spinach is an excellent balance with the butternut squash and cranberries. We ordered our usual, fav meat pizza with white sauce. Their cheese and sauce are mouth watering with the super garlicky sauce, and the amount of cheese they put makes it especially scrumptious for cheese lovers like us. Humberto's description of their limited time, (with this being the last week) pumpkin cheesecake convinced us to order a slice. It was not too sweet, and not heavy like many cheesecakes are made. After dining here occasionally for a few years, I must have forgotten to yelp about this place. Went here on a Saturday evening since we could not decide on what to eat. There were a few families ahead of us but we were promised a 10 minute wait time for two. Once we were seated, we ordered the garlic bread, a personal carne pizza and the Gorgonzola pear pizza which was seasonal. All three dishes were good. Pizza was cooked right and had the right amount of toppings. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu and the affogato. These were also good as well. A couple of downsides is this place is pricey and unfortunately they do not have a variety of tea options unlike some places. read more

Oh dear, the service was laughably bad here on this most recent Thursday evening (on which each adult entree gets you a free kids entree). The restaurant was practically empty except for maybe three small sized parties including ours of two adults and two kids yet they had at least two working as wait staff, a bartender, a couple bussers, and a few in the kitchen doing prep and cooks. Operationally, you'd think they'd be serving the whole restaurant or a steady flow of takeout, but that was not the case at all. Despite being outnumbered staff to patrons, it was nearly impossible to get any proactive service from the crew. Each time we needed something (placing the order, getting new utensils, taking care of the check, or just general questions), we needed to raise our hand to flag someone down. Our waiter barely made their way around our table to check in or just be present for our needs, however, had the attentiveness to change that TV channel once the Warriors game was over. At one time, we had dropped one of our utensils and instead of someone coming to replace it immediately (mind you that it's quiet enough to hear a utensil fall) and us being too frustrated to wait for someone to come help with our hand raised, we just grabbed one from a neighboring table. Furthermore, they initially wanted to seat us at the far corner of the restaurant, the furthest from the kitchen where all the action happens. We declined and opted to be seated closer to the kitchen, yet it was still bewildering as to why they don't emphasize the open kitchen experience as I see it as a clear competitive advantage to other restaurants. Plus being closer to the kitchen probably would mean less distance for the waiting staff to travel to ensure patrons get their food fresh, provide service more proactively and encourage higher churn with quicker meal service. Fortunately the food was delicious as always and was served in presentable fashion. The chicken fettuccine alfredo was creamy and meaty - very shareable with how rich the sauce is. The caprese piadine was refreshing yet hearty with its big slabs of fresh mozzarella cheese and tomatoes. Even the kids spaghetti and meatballs and ravioli were filling enough for our little ones! Another bright spot was how well the bathroom was stocked and how clean it was aside from the blatant graffiti covering the walls. I'm not sure how Tomatina has fallen so hard from grace when it comes to service but perhaps it was just an off night or perhaps better training is in store for the staff on how better service could lead to better tips and more return visitors, both sustaining the establishment's foothold in this bustling shopping center. Overall, I am still a fan of Tomatina's food as their kitchen continues to execute flawlessly and their daily deals are still solid for dining out options, however, something needs to be done to uplift their front end staff's performance as it's severely lacking and downright atrocious - this is not a good look or representation of this city, let alone this brand. read more

First of all, this is a cozy place for a sports bar-like place with a great vibe. It is a casual place with lots of seating and a bar. When we went we had really great service. They have an actual ceramic fire pizza oven that you can watch from your seating. The food was pretty good for a fast casual place. This place used to be good, not sure where it changed. I have since moved but was visiting for the holidays. We stood at the door waiting to get seated for almost 10-15 mins, no one acknowledged us during that time. Once we were finally seated we ordered our food and the server was very friendly, wish I got his name. Portions seemed smaller and not as fresh. Our servers were very nice and whenever we needed extra utensils or had any questions, they were always fast to come by. They also checked on us multiple times during our dinner. They had a big menu for us to choose from but we decided to go with the garlic rolls, pasta trio, and baked penne bolognese. We also ordered the take home pastas because they had a great deal. Tomatina is a decent chain restaurant. It's like another Olive Garden sister restaurant, which I'd say is pretty equal in quality and service. With that being said, do not expect the best, most authentic Italian dishes here. The garlic rolls were pretty good. Portobello fettuccine was also just decent. I don't know why Tomatina got an average of three stars. I've been here a couple of times. Their pizza are great! My favorite is the Shiitake mushroom with sausages. You can pick the softness of your dough, which is great because not everyone likes the traditional dough softness. Pasta are also excellent. I visit Tomatina often, but today's experience was disappointing. Around 2:00 pm, I came in for a regular family lunch (2 adults and 4 kids). At the time to pay my bill, the server (a tall gentleman) brought me the credit card machine. I selected a $10.00 tip, but he removed it and applied a mandatory 20% tip, even after I had already made my selection. I was forced to pay a 20% tip ($32 on a $162 bill), stating it was required for parties of six people. Our four kids are 22, 12, 8, and 2 1/2 years old. I understand my oldest is no longer a child, but he still lives with us. This was not a special event, corporate gathering, or holiday party--just a normal family lunch. I believe tipping should reflect the quality of service and should not be mandatory, especially for families with children. This policy left a very negative impression. read more

There was a bit of back and forth but we eventually got our shrimp and spinach with penne. UGH!!! Food was actually pretty good but how the staff handled the situation was really off putting. Not only were we forgotten on multiple occasions but the whole mix up of dishes just put the nail in the coffin. 2 stars overall. Every dish we ordered was flavorful, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. This Tomatina location is in Union Landing plaza. This is a rather busy plaza, but if you come early enough, parking is not too bad. My friend suggested this spot, but I was unsure of coming back here after my last experience here, as it was bad, but decided to give them another shot. Our server was nice, but it seemed like they were understaffed even with only a few customers dining in at the time, as there was a wait before we were able to order, a long delay in between getting our appetizers / drinks / food / dessert, and to pay. I ordered their Cheese Ravioli, which usually comes with marinara and parmesan. I asked if they could substitute the marinara with Alfredo sauce instead, which they were able to. The pastas were decent but I know you can definitely get better ones at actual Italian restaurants (probably for relative or less too). Each pasta was around $20 for lackluster flavor. Took my kid for a weekday lunch date here after an appointment. We had a fabulous time with our server Z. My son proclaimed this to be "the best restaurant ever!" because his fettuccine Alfredo was delicious along with his strawberry lemonade. We did a lunch special with a salad for me and fettuccine for him. We also were able to purchase the $6 take home pastas so that saves me at least 2 nights of dinner prep. Overall the value and service were really great, especially with that level of cleanliness and ambiance. Overall the food was delicious, prices were on the more expensive side and service was not great. I decided to visit this location after walking past by it a dozen of times to go to the movie theater across the way. The outside looks like the location isn't open. I was the youngest person in the restaurant aside from some kids with their parents but our table was seemingly passed over for the other middle age/older couples dining nearby. When we were seated they didn't offer us water unlike the other middle age/older couples near us that got water immediately after sitting down and refills. Ordering was smooth, you order through a QR code on the table which I believe is linked to your table since the food went straight to the correct table. We ordered 2 pizza and was not offered cheese or chili flakes like the other tables around us. When we were done eating, no one asked if we wanted a takeout box and at least one staff member passed by our table over 5 times. We decided to just wrapped our leftovers in a napkin and walked out after we paid our bill with the QR code. Size wise the pizza was decent for the price and the quality. Drink was basically all ice.
