Does NOT know what he is doing…read more You know for an acupuncturist you would assume they would be effectively using needles to treat your issue. Not the case here. I only came here because he was in-network through my fed workers comp, I had to go to his office in Aptos/Soquel because that was his earliest available appts and only does Monterey on Mondays. When I went in he hands you a questionnaire so I filled it out. Once we got into the room he asks you the same questions you had already filled out... Whats the point? He is very thorough about asking what's wrong, taking measurements, checking your flexibility and whatnot. That's about it, the actual treatment was laughable. He maybe put 4 needs altogether? 2 on my lower back and one on each Achilles area. He kept using a handheld electric unit every time I went in and was so focused on the scar on my back saying "That might be the cause". It was almost like it was his new toy and he wanted to use it so much and not even needles. Afterward, he left the room with the needles in for only 15 minutes which was very short usually, other acupuncturists would do the treatment for 30 minutes. He is also the first person to NOT use alcohol wipes on the area where he is about to use needles which was the first red flag. He doesn't give you any type of massage afterward. He doesn't do cupping which every other place I've been to does cause my muscles are very tense from overcompensating for a bad back. I had asked out of curiosity how much it would be without insurance and he said $95 per session. Which is way overpriced compared to another doctor I go to who does work and is sanitary. I had a microdiscectomy and ablation to my lower back and have a scar from the surgery, I am not pretending I have pain for workers comp. Like I am really in pain and it is affecting my everyday life. Here is the worst part of it all, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt and went to him 3 times. After the first session, the pain in my lower back was WORSE, I had to do tens unit and multiple lidocaine patches at home. After the second session, I STARTED HAVING SCIATICA AGAIN!! Down to my right calf and down to my left thigh. I had the microdescectomy to get rid of the sciatica but somehow whatever he did with those handheld electric units it brought it back! On the third visit, I told him my problem, and he said let's do a motion test again. He even said let's not use the electric units this time cause obviously they aren't helping. After he didn't bother putting ANY needles in my lower back where the pain is and went straight to my legs but each needle he put in caused pain and I told him. So he took it out and just had me lay there with just heat on my back. Like why would anybody pay you $95 to just have heat on their back? He leaves for a few minutes in a panic and comes back (I'm guessing after googling) saying let's put needles in my ear. I stopped him right there cause I knew at this point he was just guessing. I brought my mother with me every time and she said he didn't know what he was doing and he couldn't seem to locate my nerves/pressure points and we should stop coming immediately, there are cases where quack doctors leave people nerve damaged for good cause they don't know what they are doing. He's only in Monterey on Mondays and when we went in. I saw multiple red flags of sage and crystals on the shelves... Also, my mother said there were some ingredients they had on display NOT even used in herbal Chinese medicine. Like I understand non-Asians looking at it and being like "Oh wow" but for us, it's like what the heck, do they even know what they are doing or are they just trying to mock us?

Unfortunately, this initial impression was deceiving. Being under Dr Dan's care ultimately caused significantly more harm than the illness I sought treatment for. While his supplements helped with my initial symptoms, he said that his thermography scans showed other issues that required further treatment. Over time, the daily regimen he prescribed grew until I was taking 17 supplements, several of them multiple times a day. As this progressed, I began experiencing new symptoms - extreme weight loss, sleeping only 1 or 2 hours a night, hair loss, and severe anxiety that left me waking up in a state of panic most days. When I raised concerns that the supplements might be contributing, he was dismissive to the point of defensiveness and attributed my symptoms to menopause and other conditions. Dr Dan also advised on many other aspects of my daily life - from acceptable water sources to food choices and personal hygiene products. That level of influence extended beyond my own health when he recommended that I give my dog ibuprofen for her hip pain. His website states that he worked with a vet, and he'd spoken about treating pets in the past, so I followed his advice. I was shocked to learn that ibuprofen is toxic to dogs. My poor pup became seriously ill, developed gastrointestinal bleeding, and required emergency veterinary care and months of follow-up treatment. This was a turning point for me, and I realized that I had placed my trust in the wrong provider. As I gradually discontinued the supplements, my health started to improve. I sought a second opinion from another integrative medical practice and was told that the supplements were unnecessary and that thermography scans are generally considered unreliable diagnostic tools. They also confirmed that the combination of two supplements I was taking at high doses likely overstimulated my nervous system and caused the weight loss, insomnia, and anxiety. Since stopping the supplements I've regained weight, my hair is growing back, my sleep has returned to normal, and the anxiety has finally subsided. It's difficult to come to terms with how much my health deteriorated over 20 months under this provider's care while my concerns were repeatedly dismissed. I do not recommend trusting him with your health and well being.
