5/13/20 at 9:15 pm. The young man who checked me out tonight (dark, slicked hair and short in stature) needs a refresher on how to talk to customers. I was frustrated because construction workers had closed off and taped plastic sheets over the soda aisle and that was one of the main items on my list. I told the young man at the register that they should have waited until the store was closed. He bluntly asked what I wanted and I said, "soda but they have the whole aisle taped over." In a very slow, deliberate, unfriendly (condescending) tone he said, "what do you want and maybe I can get it for you." I appreciate his willingness to get my soda, but there was no "sorry for the inconvenience, let me see if I can get it" or any politeness in his voice. He brought back the soda and despite my feelings, I thanked him. He didn't acknowledge my thanks so when we were finished with the transaction, I thanked him again. He just stared at me until I left. I'm in the customer service business myself and no matter how frustrated a customer is, I never condescend to them or treat them any way but politely. Please let the young man know that his interaction with me left a really bad taste in my mouth, and I really considered taking my $500 a week to Kroger from now on. But the rest of your staff are almost always very polite so I'll give you all another chance. read more

I swear I wouldn't come here again, but if I put in an order for delivery, it comes from this location. I was busy and put in a delivery order, and now I know better than to do that too. My order was delivered elsewhere. Right apartment number, wrong street address. When I contacted customer service they asked me if I could go and get it. If I were going to go out to get my groceries, I wouldn't have ordered them for delivery! And at the point I saw the email that they had been incorrectly delivered, all the meat I had ordered would have been sitting in the Texas summer heat for a half hour, if they were even still there! I don't do delivery very often but it hasn't been a problem in the past, and now they want to make it my responsibility to go on a search and rescue for wayward groceries?! No. Now I am having a hard time with their customer service over a refund, because it "was delivered". Doesn't matter that it was delivered to someone else and I have to run to Kroger in order to make dinner. Other Tom Thumbs in the metroplex are 10 times better than this location. Surprising because of the area that it is in. I have had nothing but problems at this location. They should check out the one on Glade, to see how it is done. read more

Please advise your butcher counter of food safety...this is the second time I've been and her hair is down and not tied back. She is tossing it back with her hands and shoulders and than is rude to our request. I understand that some meats are prepackage, i prefer to chose from the case and have been Redirected. Had a disrespectful disappointing experience today. Took back a cabbage that was purchased the day before the snowstorm by my son. When he brought it home it had black spots on it. It has been in my refrigerator to return. No biggie. Know next time not to send my son to purchase produce lol. Johnny letourneau, customer supervisor, comes to assist. He proceeds to tell me that I cannot return it because it has been more than 24 hrs. I explain to him it is within the 30 days and it was purchased prior to the snowstorm which is why I have not brought it back. He then tells me he does not believe it had black spots as it would be all over by this point. Huh?? Where does that come from as that is not true and I do not need to lie about black spots. So now we are at a standstill. He is looking at me and I am looking at him. Then he says he will exchange it. Since I am in a hurry, I say okay. I go to the produce section and now I see that the selection of cabbage is horrible. They are either really tiny or surprise surprise have black spots on them. I pick the best looking one and head back. As I am heading back, Johnny is no longer in the front but on the side of the store helping someone else in between the deli and starbucks. Johnny why are you way over here? Who is handling the front?? I ask Johnny about the 24 hr return policy as I do not see it in the return policy. He then tells me it is a store policy in which I tell him that is not posted anywhere and he says it doesn't have to be. I then ask for the manager name. He says well he is here you want to speak to him. I say sure. I proceed to the front but not Johnny. I do not know what he is doing at this point. While I am standing up front waiting for the manager, someone from floral comes up and asks if she can assist because Johnny asked for floral over the walkie. I say no I am waiting on a manager. As I am standing still waiting for Johnny to return to the front, I ask the self checkout cashier the name of the manager. She tells me Kevin. I say okay. Johnny finally walks up and states the manager is not answering so he is going to go find him. He again walks away. While he is gone, another person walks up needing assistance so we carry on a conversation. Another manager, I believe his name is Shep comes up, I explain what is happening, he says sure we can return it. Johnny is still missing in action. Shep walks off. The other customer and I continue our conversation still waiting on Mr Johnny to return. I finally ask the self checkout cashier if she can call someone. She looks up and says oh Johnny and Shep are over there by floral. She calls to them. We have been sitting over here waiting and Johnny is carrying on a whole conversation I am sure arguing about returning this measly cabbage. Johnny finally comes over and lies right to my face and says I was looking for a manager. He literally was over there speaking with Shep in the corner. He then acts like he didn't know what Shep had told me. Then he proceeds to look at the receipt and say the cabbage is not on the receipt. He doesn't scan it or anything. He hands it back. This is our neighborhood grocery store. We like the way Tom Thumb takes care of employees who have disabilities and challenges. It's such a positive for the store and all of the customers. There is a concern that has to do with the digital pricing and shopping for the specials with or without the reward card or digital coupons. Managers listen please! Every single time my husband goes into the store and shops using the digital coupons after he has spent time clipping them at home- there is always at least one mistake. If a customer doesn't check their receipt, they're losing anywhere from a dollar to four dollars or more, depending on the number of items that were rung up incorrectly. It's not the cashier's fault, it's the computer IT department's fault. it's very exasperating. We have stood in line and talked to many other customers waiting to be checked out. They all say the same thing. We always take the time to look and check our receipts. There's an error on every single ring out. Maybe you want to know that? Maybe you don't want to know that so you can keep ripping off customers? Managers and owners - what's the answer? We are doing the clipping of coupons and the digital shopping and pricing according to all of the instructions. Do you want to have us return to your store and feel like we're not being cheated out of something? You've got to figure out what the problems are so that the prices ring up properly. When shopping alone, I avoid your store because of the inaccurate sales receipts. read more

So it's a decent grocery store, but when you enter the place on the side with the Starbucks storefront it smells like low tide. And bad low tide, rotten mussels and clams to be precise. So very disappointed in today's shopping experience. Had thin steak advertised at 50% off; however, the label listed its weight at +3lbs and +$45 originally. The reality is the package was 1.12lbs as weighed by the Meat Manager after I brought it to his attention. The explanation I got was the pricing of the meats are directed from Corporate! 1. I use this store because the location is decent. However, the customer service is unsatisfactory. It must start with management. Poor training of employees and/or poor decision-making in the hiring process. Deli employees are rarely available to assist in a purchase. You rarely see anyone - they're all in the back room, and when/if they do come out, they look at you like you're interrupting their work. Seems like they most hate their jobs and wish they were elsewhere. The entire place is just one negative environment. Grapevine needs HEB. Come on Mayor, get it done. Really want to use this store. I went in with my digital coupons. Verified they were there with the store manager. Checked out. Ask the cashier if I got them all and she said yes. Got home and realized I was overcharged $19.24. If you do not look at these receipts you are a fool. I have used them 4 times and it has been wrong 4 times. Im talking about 30% off correct numbers. If you do not use coupons it may not be this problem . I do not know. Staff is friendly and helpful. Their system is bad. I'll go back next week and get a refund. This Tom Thumb's produce section is awful. Last week the mandarin oranges were old and had mold just 2 days after I bought them. This week the Fuji apples had bad spoiled spots the next day and had to be thrown away and the artichokes were bad clear through to the chokes the same day they were purchased. I found some flowers that I wanted to put out on her grave and I asked Chevy if she had any plastic vases as cemeterlies do not allow glass vases. I am not sure how this place continues to rip people off. Oh I know, there are no other options for groceries in North Grapevine. I quit using this store months ago because the digital coupons NEVER work. But on occasion my spouse will shop there. He just came back with the receipt and much of it did not ring up correctly. The 5lb potatoes advertised for 97cents rang up at $3.49 however the $3.00 off 3 boxes of Chex cereal did ring up correctly. When you ask for assistance on why your coupons aren't working it is like a deer in headlights. Half the produce items will not show the proper code when searching by the name. Search for fresh corn and you are only given the option for tri-colored corn at 4 times the price. This place is super shady and I recommend avoiding it if you can. It is not like this at the Tom Thumb down the road in Southlake so I am not sure what is going on with the Tom Thumb on Park Blvd. read more

Please grocery gods, PLEASE open another grocery store nearby. I can't take shopping at this Tom Thumb anymore! When you walk through the entrance on the right to grab a cart, it reeks of sewer smell. You'll see scented wall plug-ins next to the carts to try and cover the smell up. How about spending some money and fixing the issue? The last thing I want to smell when I walk into a grocery store is sewer. It's the week before Christmas and last night the grocery store was crowded, expectedly so. They had three lanes open total. One regular lane and two express lanes. So of course, lines were crazy long and everyone's frustrated they don't have any other lanes open. It's a no brainer that you need additional lanes open during this busy time. This store is run so poorly and ownership is 100% responsible for that. For the employees that do work hard here (because there are some that do), it's unfair to them because the rest of the staff really gives this store a bad reputation. The people that work in produce always ask if I'm finding everything okay and I really appreciate that. But please put more time and effort into training people at the registers. It's the last thing people experience in your store and I always leave feeling frustrated. On many occasions I've found expired items on the shelf. Yuck! I feel that the selection they have isn't up to par with many other Tom Thumbs I've shopped at. PLEASE we are begging you. Put some money into this store and make it better -- in every way. Besides a couple of nice people that work here, this place has only 1 thing going for it. The floral department, is always nice. Consistently empty, and always overpriced, the food at the deli always looks old, and never touched. The salads have crusted over in the case, and do not look fresh. Mounds of different kinds of salads. Wasted food. During the day, they only have one line open, so if you are buying 2 things and the person in front of you has a full basket, you're SOL.... That's right, people. They have NO self check out here. You can go to customer service to check out, but there's hardly anyone ever there, and if there is, they act like it's a pain to help you. This store is usually well stocked. When their fresh made bagels are in stock, they are as good as any bagel shop I've been to, but I frequently find their bagel area in the bakery empty. Good beer and wine selection and a great olive bar and cheese stand. The prices are definitely higher than other nearby stores - you will stretch a dollar further almost anywhere else. My main complaint about the store is the scary as hell employees. I have had frequent encounters with employees talking to themselves, questioning me about odd things and then leaving, and once just walking up and wordlessly taking my cart away as I just finished taking out the last bag to put into my car. It's not unusual to see employees gathered near the front entrance smoking. I believe we have only encountered two employees you could classify as sane, functioning adults in the 6 months we've been shopping there... New re-model of store = quality lacking! So this is my usual go-to grocery store for just about anything. We live nearby and with two young children, convenience is a necessity. The store has recently undergone a change where higher-end goods are displayed and given more attention. As long as I can still get my cart around these things....fine. What is disappointing is the lack of quality I've had with goods from here lately - produce that is rotten or bad within days (was there a recent change in provider?), yogurt on the shelf with a week old expiration date, and my normal "staples" are not on the shelf? It's disappointing that when I mentioned the old expiration dates of the yogurt to my cashier, he said yeah - tell you the truth - our dairy and eggs products are either bad or about to go bad. The customer service at this store is top-notch. The atmosphere at this Tom Thumb is small-town, where the employees remember you and say HI. Love that they employ teenagers and those with disabilities. We shop at this store weekly. Their prices are great when they have sales and very fair otherwise. Megan refused my request to put my 6 items in one bag. While she was putting in one item per bag, I asked her to just use one. She looked at me, tore off another bag and dropped the one item in it. Then she said, "the bags will tear." I slowly removed the candy bar and yogurt cup from the 2 additional bags and put everything in one. She also forgot to give me the monopoly pieces since she was so involved in arguing with me over how many bags I needed. Just to make sure I wasn't putting too much in one bag, I weighed it when I got home and it weighed 4 pounds. I'm pretty sure that's well under the weight limit for a plastic bag. Make sure you check freshness dates on all items. I bought owens breakfast sausage with a February date, got home, rotten, went back to the courtesy counter and the little lady was very rude, then the butcher argued with me, received a replacement, rotten also, went to Krogers so i could finish my meal. I also purchased 8 pack of small cokes, flat and out of date by 2 months. Also, there store brand of fresh soups, many tubs out of date. I guess its Krogers from now on. read more

The same individual came up to me in the parking lot and brazenly asked me for money as I was leaving my car. The employees are generally not too friendly. I have very mixed feelings about this store. A good third of their items, particularly store brand items, are cheaper than anywhere else I've found. Yes, this includes Walmart. Particularly if you shop sales. Their clearance meat section is an absolutely wonderful thing. I routinely get ribeye steaks for around $3.00 a pound, pork chops for $0.99 a pound, and chicken breasts for around $0.80 a pound. And it's generally of very high quality. Their sales are wonderful, particularly $5.00 Friday. Each week they put a good 10-20 items on sale for $5.00, some with sales limits and some without. I routinely find items that I need on this list for around 30%-40% cheaper than any other store in my area, once again including Walmart. Their produce, while not the same quality as Sprouts or Central Market, is very good and very affordable. That said... The people bagging the groceries need to be retrained. You don't put two liter soda bottles on top of eggs. You don't stuff six liters of soda into a single plastic bag unless you plan on it ripping. You don't put 10 cans of cat food into the same bag as a loaf of bread. I quite often have to give specific instructions on how I want things bagged. This is the ONLY shop where I've EVER had a staff member complain about the amount of items I'm purchasing. They recently had an 8 piece fried chicken special on sale for $5.00. I was on my way to a party at a friend's house, thought I'd bring a little chicken, so I stopped by Tom Thumb's deli. I just wanted three orders, something that should be readily available. I actually had two different members of the deli staff, one a Supervisor, ask me not to buy three. When I told them that I really needed three orders the Supervisor actually complained rather loudly, stating that I was "wiping out out the chicken" and he really hopes "nobody else wants any". Seriously, you don't expect that someone might want more than one order, or more than 3 people might want to buy something that you have on sale during peak shopping hours on a Friday? Then you're going to complain that I'm giving you business? Make more freaking chicken and shut up about it, I'm the customer. The biggest problem I have with this store though is that the meat counter has a problem with cross contamination. They routinely put out displays where seafood, raw chicken, raw pork, and raw beef are stacked, in a container, on top of each other. This is fine if everything is hermetically sealed but their packages don't fall into this category. They seem to have rectified this issue, but it took speaking to 3 different employees, 1 supervisor, 1 manager, a call to their corporate offices, and a call to the local health inspector to have this issue resolved. I provided the supervisor, manager, and corporate offices with pictures of the specific issues, the specific local health code they were violating, and the federal food handling guideline they were violating. Put bluntly, I shop here because they have some items I buy on a regular basis much cheaper than any other local store. I shop here because they put items I buy on a regular basis on sale at a steeply discounted rate. I shop here because I can buy high quality beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp at a very good cost. The moment they stop doing any of these is the day they see the last of my business. read more
