Jeff--I believe that's the name of the business owner and I were talking about our cats and then he suddenly paused...before saying something extremely racist. To be clear, I am white. I believe the hesitation was to consider if it was "safe" to make the joke that he did. The shop is not a large space and I did not want to lose my temper and escalate anything, so I pretended to laugh and told him I needed my relatives' approval before buying anything. Well. I have a lot of racist relatives. They would defend this man. I won't. I will not give him money, theirs, mine, or anyone else's. It's sad to hear a local business owner and operator, otherwise welcoming, kind and polite, talk like that because it undoes his kindness--he's only willing to show it to people who look like he does. It's disturbing because this is not the screaming, overt racism of domestic terrorists and our government of 2026. it's insidious. It's literally in our mom and pop next door local businesses. I'm not going to repeat what he said. Doubtless, he has many excuses for it. I would, sadly, for the sake of his cats, who sound delightful, warn my friends of every color not to give this man an income. There was and is no excuse on this planet for what he said. The employees were helpful and kind. They were willing to answer all of my questions about insurance and the testing they were doing. Another plus is that they upload prescriptions online which makes it easy to order glasses from online stores! I have anxiety with health professionals since it's always about money or they just tend to not listen. I went to another place about two years ago and they blamed the medication I was on for my bad eye sight and belchertown eye care immediately went through every OTHER reason why I could be lacking. They called me the day before reminding me of my appointment. I got in almost a week 1/2 out which Is amazing considering it takes months at other places. The lady at the front desk was very attentive, told me that it would be $110 for the exam BUT insurance will cover an amount of it I would just have it sent out. (she gave me a letter and all to send it out) As well as she measured where my eyes and ears sit so its comfortable. When I paid I left a deposit for my glasses (I was given option) and she showed the price break down. Sadly, I do not remember her name but the lady who did my eye exam was TOP tier, she worked for surgeons before and was checking for EVERYTHING when I say everything I mean everything. She was very educated and would ask if I wanted to see what the pictures and devices were doing. They have brand new technology so she explained what each one does now and any questions were answered immediately. PLEASE go they're amazing !

I recently got a pair of sunglasses to use with my contacts, these glasses have removable wind protection in them, I used the wind protection for the first time this past weekend skiing, they work incredibly, I was able to ski all day without having my eyes water! I had to go back for a follow up after my initial appointment because my contact lens prescription needed fine-tuning. It's not unusual for that to happen. The staff is really helpful there. Everybody has been very considerate, not to mention knowledgeable. Jenn helped me picked out glasses that looked good and felt good. I'm very happy with them.
