Meet the Business Owner: Tom L.
To the casual observer, Bay Road resident Tom Libby's art supplies may look like nothing more than ugly pieces of firewood. But to Libby, their hidden beauty lies just beneath the surface, waiting to be revealed by his treasured woodworking tools.
For the month of July, he will be showing some of his work in the display cases at the Wellesley Free Library.
Always interested in nature, Libby, 71, finds his material in his own yard, under a neighbor's trees, and during his travels around the area. One day when he stopped on Route 9 to have his oil changed he noticed a little black walnut tree that had fallen over. Surprised to see that the tree had even taken root in such a location, he picked it up and took it home to work on. The rescued wood "turned out to be very pretty," Libby said.
Tom had some early inspiration for his art. His dad, Asa Libby, enjoyed woodworking, and Tom, who graduated from Wellesley High School in 1960, began working with wood himself during his high school year
