Tom & Jerry's Very disappointing experience. The food we ordered was not good and went mostly uneaten. The chicken was extremely dry, the fries were flavorless, and the ribeye sandwich was cut into small pieces and was tough to chew. I called the restaurant to let them know about the quality of the food. Alex told me a refund would be issued and said the manager approved it. Later in the same phone call, the manager agreed to the refund and then a different manager reversed course, saying the food would need to be brought back. By that point, the food had already been thrown away because it was not edible. I did take photos of the food in the garbage and will be including them with this review. What was most frustrating was not just the poor food quality, but the inconsistent and contradictory response afterward. I reached out to give the restaurant an opportunity to address the issue and instead received mixed messages and no resolution. Clear follow-through from management would have gone a long way in resolving this experience read more

Great ribs very tender and juicy the barbecue sauce was very good the dinner comes with Cole's slaw fries and garlic bread I wish my ribs would have been hot when you eat pork which I went back to eating it the pork should be hot not warm did not want to complain because I don't want nothing to happen to My food if you know what I mean the fries were cooked to perfection and juicy and tender ketchup and Tabasco makes everything taste better The breaded mushrooms were cooked to perfection without that stale Taste other places have the service was out your name and come and get your own food so no table service The ambiance was great country music with the cute benches saying on them no too crooked and not Loud at all the beef was not good at low very low quality meat but over all is great read more

We were doing a delivery in the area and wanted to try this place! My husband went to college in DeKalb and remembers dining at a Tom and Jerry's restaurant. The menu has so many great choices... it took a while to decide what to order. I love Gyros so that was what I ordered... everything about it was delicious My husband ordered the Cheeseburger and said it was delicious and he would definitely order it again. It was juicy and delicious! For an extra fee you can add on a side and a drink so my husband added a homemade soup which was cream of Chicken and it was delicious! We also ordered cheese curds (there were 20 of them) and mozzarella sticks 5. They were both delicious but we both loved the cheese curds the best they had a better tasting crust and a more crunchy texture. The dining room is dated but very clean! Stopped in while in the area. First time to a Tom and Jerry's. First thing I saw was wow what a large menu! I went with the 1/2 pound cheeseburger since I was so hungry! It was delicious. Cheese was perfectly melted. Also, they serve Pepsi products. Score! Service was super friendly from all of the staff. Plenty of seating. When the weather cooperates, there are outside tables too. Tom and Jerry's is a catering and hot dog / beef shop located in Dekalb illinois. I had occasion to stop into Tom & Jerry's while waiting for an electrical part to be rebuilt in Dekalb. We had some time to kill so we stopped in for a late lunch. I hadn't been here since the mid 90's, when my travels used to take me down to NIU to see friends at college. My dad and I stopped in and had a quick bite. There is an ample parking lot surrounding the business and immediately upon entering you feel as if you've gone back in time. There are a lot of Knick knacks on the walls. The establishment was clean as were the restrooms. I ordered a pizza puff and an Italian beef sandwich, and a drink. The food was made to order and was received hot and fresh. The staff was friendly, and they provide free drink refills as well. I love puffs and beefs and dogs from Chicago and the surrounding area, as evidenced by my Yelp check ins. Tom & Jerry's didn't disappoint. While the beef was slightly overdone, it was still hot and tasty. The pizza puff was cooked to a golden brown and full of that Iltaco flavor that we have all come to know and love. The taco on a pita has a soggy pita . It would be so much better if the pita was crispy. I ordered it and asked for a crispy pita! But yet it's still soggy. It gets even more soggy with the juices. You can't have trash on the menu read more

We order from here at least 2 times a month. Italian Beef's are good. My daughter and I love the salads. I get an order of chicken tenders to go along with them. I have never received bad food. Hubby gets the gyros and he has never been disappointed. The one tip I would give them is to not use flavored syrups in your shakes. Fresh bananas, peaches would be a great addition. read more

My husband and I visit Tom and Jerry's almost every week since we moved here two years ago. However, over the past several months they have been cheating us on food at the drive-thru. missing orders of fries, cheese cups, tzatziki for the gyros, and so on. Supposedly our last complaint was shared with the staff last week but it obviously didn't sink in. Yes, we were offered credit for our missing items from the past. We are grateful for that. Today we visited T & J's to use that credit. Well, like all the past visits, we were not given a cheese sauce. I contacted the T & J's about the missing cheese sauce from the order. Their reply was just a sad emoticon. Not even a "Sorry". That was very unprofessional, completely lacking respect for the customer or even caring about the success of their own business. I understand they may be understaffed and probably overworked due to the obvious current situation but that excuse only goes so far, especially when there is not much traffic at the restaurant at the time. So, the question is how many more customers are being cheated? How much extra money are they making by shorting customers on food? Sadly, they lost my family as customers. read more

For the last year, they seem to have any issues straightened out. Orders are always fresh and correct. They handle item "mods" in stride and are generally very friendly and efficient. Used drive thru first customer on a SUN. Waited long time to be given extremely undercooked greasy fries. Extreme lack of customer service trying to get cooked fries led me to refund. I hadn't been to this restaurant in probably over 20+ years. Same great experience! Faces have changed obviously but their ability to make one heckuva gyro still is true. We were there early at 1030am and they were open! Couldn't believe it. Their gyro (after decades of trying theirs and several others) still is one of my favorites. They were generous in their feta cheese portions ( as 98% of places forget or are not as generous). The portion of gyro to pita was overflowing! The fries were a standout. Crispy, crinkled and perfect. This place seems to have only gotten better in time. And by the way management, your ability to build a tribute to the American soldier left me awe struck and appreciative. Tom and Jerry's continues to be a reliable option for what I call Chicago fast food. Typical fast food items such as burgers, steak sandwiches, salads, soup, pizza, subs, and gyros are featured. However, items which make it Chicago fast food are pizza puffs, Italian Beef, Chicago hot dogs, and Polish dogs. A Polish dog is Polish sausage on a bun and a pizza puff is deep fried pizza toppings in a pastry similar to a hot pocket but better. The menu is extensive providing lots of options to chose from. The food is good but for me none of the menu items are above average or stand out in any way. Every item available on the menu is something we've seen before even if it's a Chicago item. I don't think the location in Dekalb is owned by the same company. The menu and food are similar. I lived in Dekalb for several years, and strongly preferred this Tom and Jerry's over the one in Dekalb (it used to be the same owner, it is no longer). I never had a problem with incorrect orders in the drive thru, and my food was always tasty. I am picky on my gyros, and was not a fan of their cucumber sauce, however. I went more for the hotdogs and fries. Other people I know really dug the gyros, and I was a huge fan of their ribs. Now living in small town MN, I do miss Tom and Jerry's quite often. read more

My partner & I had their food last night and were up all night with food poisoning. Nearly 24 hours later we're nursing a fever. My best guess is that it came from the chicken club pita wrap. Absolutely awful. I have ordered here a few times and it was always just ok. This last time there was a women's hair in my husbands gyro. I ordered a fried chicken dinner....the chicken was dry and bad. I was supposed to get a side of fries, roll, and coleslaw with my meal but only received fries. Didn't matter because the chicken was so bad I only ate one piece of chicken and I was done. This is now on my list of places I won't eat anymore. Food is pricey and below average. read more

A month and a half ago, I was disappointed in the direction that T&J's was going. I was disappointed in the food, disappointed that a great place was starting to go downhill. I was seriously considering giving up T&J's for good. However, I decided to give T&J's one more chance 31 August, and I am glad I did.
