Coming in from out of town on my way to Des Moines, "troubling" doesn't begin to describe my worry when I saw the check engine light go off about 20 miles outside of Toledo. Spent the night in a local hotel and called Toledo Auto Care the next morning to set up an appointment the next day. Turned out it was just some dirty oil that needed changing. The mechanic showed me the brakes and let me know that they were going to need changing sometime in the near future, but it wasn't anywhere close to the in-your-face sales pitch that some auto shops give you. I left Toledo Auto Care with a healthy care and a healthier state of mind. They treat their customers right here, and if I'm in the area again this will be my number one choice for any car repairs. read more

I had a great experience at Toledo Auto Care. Everyone there was personable, straightforward, and genuinely kind. No upselling (which I'm seriously grateful for), and they didn't talk down to me--which matters, especially since I work on my own vehicle. I stopped in for new tires before a long drive to Colorado. They didn't have the exact set I originally wanted, and that was on me for cutting it close. Instead of pushing anything on me, they walked me through the options they had in stock, made thoughtful suggestions, and let me choose what felt right. Exceptional service. My car uses specific oil, and l called in advance to see if they carried it. They ensured that they had it the next day, I brought in my car for a scheduled oil change, and they promptly worked on the car. Their service includes all the recommended inspections, and all for a reasonable price. Bottom line: I had a problem with my car. I took it to them. They recommended a comprehensive check ($70). That check didn't assess the original problem. They asked for more money to do another check. They asked for feedback via email, so I emailed them to address this problem. They did not reply. These guys were very nice and personable, and I think they tried to be helpful. I think they probably do good work, based on some reviews. So I don't like leaving a negative review for what seems like a good, local business. But I'm doing so anyways for several reasons: 1. They didn't assess my car based on what I told them what was wrong. 2. After paying over $70 (with tax) for one assessment of my car, they asked for another $95 to assess what I originally asked them to. 3. I emailed them directly to try and address this concern, and they did not reply. Here's the longer story: I took my car in to have the exhaust and brakes checked. I told them I could smell exhaust in the cabin, so I wanted to have it checked. They got my in same day (before noon). That was great! They recommended a $70 comprehensive check of the car. I assumed (my error) that they recommended this to check the things I alerted them to. The got back to me less than 5 hours later (I needed the car back for work the next day), and told me (among other things) that I would need to authorize a $95 exhaust leak smoke check. Well, I couldn't have it done same day, so I picked up the car. The guys there were really nice, and the store is very clean and pleasant---unlike many other auto shops. But really, I wanted the exhaust issue addressed first and foremost, but it seems they recommended this other comprehensive car check in order to get more money. All in all, they wanted over $160 before anything was even fixed on the car. (See attached pictures.) I emailed them the day after I had my car in their shop, because I wanted to address my concerns directly with them. After giving it 24 hours, they have not replied. Bottom line, they charged me for something that I didn't need, and then asked for more money to do the thing I originally asked them to do. Very frustrating and disingenuous. read more

They quoted over $800 for an 08 Honda Odyssey alternator, plus $136 for a belt and $27 to clean my battery posts (LOL). I found an able mechanic on Craigslist who did it for $235 (less than half what they asked for the pet alone) in one hour. He cleaned the terminals for free and it didn't need a belt. Beware of the terrible customer service and lack of communication at this business. Scheduled an appointment on february 2nd to have my car looked at because the heat was not working on wednesday February 3rd. Dropped it off overnight to have it looked at first thing wednesday morning. Was told I could expect a call back around 12pm with the issue diagnosed. Never received a call so I called the shop at 1pm was told they had a call off and have not even begun the thorough inspection yet. Then a few hours later around 3pm I received a call from a representative stating that they would try to get it looked at before they close at 5pm. Never received a call back and I didn't have my car so I had no way to get to work the next day. Thankfully my mother let me borrow her car to take to work. Then I received a call from them Thursday afternoon stating it would cost over 600 dollars to fix thermostat and do a flush plus an extra $70 for diagnostic testing. This was a terrible experience and even worse the manager was very unsympathetic about the issue I had. Refused to give me a partial discount. Definitely will take my business else where. read more

Left front whooshing sound in my 20 yr old Toyota. It was a ball bearing & cv joint. I was quoted a price & I OK'd the work. They called me later in the day & told me they could not get the connection off & they would need to order a replacement part, almost $1,000...old car, which drives great, so I OK'd the work. They called me the next morning & told me one of their mechanics had kept working on the connection & had finally been able to get the connection off!! Back to the original quote. Ok So my car needed a part. Was told on back order, and then that the wrong part was sent. This took one MONTH. Today I took it in at 9am. At 445 called to check on it, we will call you right back . they never called and now are closed till,Monday! I had a very minor issue with my vehicle. My regular mechanic was booked solid and I just couldn't figure it out on my own. I took my car in to Toledo Auto Car and they solved the problem in a few minutes. They wouldn't even charge me (I think they finally accepted some cash just so I would leave). My brakes were grinding, and pulsing when I used them. I decided to bring them here, and perhaps watch a movie while the van was worked on. I called, and they recommended that I have the van in by 7:30 AM. I thought I might have to find a way home but they have a driver who takes you home, and picks you up when the work is done. The inspection of the brakes indicated that the brake pads had 75% of material left on the front brakes, and 50% on the rear. I had not had the van in for service since I bought it in July 2007. When they called with that information I asked them to do an oil change and cooling system flush, and to find out what was making the "check engine" light stay on. They later called with the information that it was the EGR valve. The oil change cost $19.95 plus $14.95 for 5 qt of 5W20, and $4.99 for the oil filter. The cooling system flush was $38.13 for labor and $19.95 to replace 5qts of coolant. The EGR valve replacement was the most expensive. $216.99 for the EGR Valve (70-6172) and $116.71 for the labor. It also cost $17.00 to replace the air filter. A total of $500.55 ($31.65 sales tax and $20.19 for a Env/Sup. Charge). Considering I had no service in three years (except my brother changing oil) I got off lucky, I think The brakes still made the same sound. They called me a few days later to ask how I liked their service. I told them I was taking the van to another dealer to have the brakes checked yet again. They requested I brink it back. The manager believed from what I said that it was the rotors. I took it back, asked to removed the labor for the brake inspection (since they did not find problem), and he said the labor was for inspecting the brakes, and that a rotor problem would be found only with a road test. A road test was conducted but for the EGR valve. I decided to let them try again. They called again about 2PM that the car was ready. I asked them to send the "courtesy car" (which was out). They called again a half-hour later that he was coming. I took a friend along (both times no problem for the driver), paid my bill, and tried the car. No sounds from the brakes and they worked smoothly. The cost was $79.93 for machining the rotors within factory specifications. Everyone feels much safer in my car now. read more

SCAMMERS! HUSTLERS! SWINDLERS! DISHONEST! DISRESPECTFUL! Take your car to honest people who care and this place is not it! I took my car in to get whatever was going on fixed, paid for the highest diagnostic package, to know why my tires kept losing pressure, I wanted new tires and to get the car ready for winter so I didn't have issues with it in inclement weather. There's signs all over saying they do visual inspections... get expensive repairs made, paid in full. Leave and get pulled over for an out tail light!!!!! Nowhere did they tell me it was out bc they only half ass checked my car and "fixed" it with parts they charge multiple times their cost for. It never drove right after that and when they texted me the day after I told them it wasn't right but they didn't care, did nothing. Mere weeks later my serpentine belt breaks and they said oh well we said it was worn, so now apparently they expect $1,600 for repairs. Curtis on Monroe is rude and doesn't have common courtesy enough to not interrupt others while they're answering the question he just asked continuously cut me off while I was talking despite repeated attempts of him to stop and let me answer his question and to please stop talking over me and cutting me off while I'm politely and calmly, and eight feet from him try to answer the question he keeps asking bc he can't listen while he's talking over me. They were very honest about their findings and reassured me that everything was alright. They also called me later in the evening to ensure that everything continued to be okay after I left. Personally, I can't judge the quality of mechanic skills. I assume all garages will get the job done; the noticeable difference is the "oh, we've noticed these other things" talk and the customer service. The guy was very helpful through that talk, giving me advice on what things should be best taken care of immediately and what things could wait a bit. I was referred to Toledo Auto Care Monroe St location by another local auto shop. I called to speak with one of the mechanics prior to having my Honda Accord towed there. I told him my vehicle does not start and needs a new starter explaining the battery was tested and had no issues. He told me they would complete their own inspection despite my telling him the starter was the issue. They sent me a text and email with inspection results which determined my car needed a starter! Really? I called to discuss the inspection and cost and was told my car also needs a intake gasket. He told me he had problems finding the parts but finally found the parts (not true. Parts can be found at Autozone). Then I was told total cost was $1,065.71. I asked to itemize the cost of the starter, gasket and labor and was told cost of each. The starter was very overpriced..$453.50. I was told I was charged $105.00 for the inspection AFTER the inspection! Had they informed me prior to towing, I wouldn't have considered servicing my car there. I called another Auto shop to inquire of starter cost, which was $200-$350. I informed my brother via text and his friend referred me to his mechanic. I went to Toledo Auto Care, paid my inspection fee, and had my vehicle towed to my brother's friend mechanic who can get a starter for under $100.00. Lessons learned, I should have gotten more estimates, and I should have read the reviews. Most of the reviews are bad and the five star reviews are not convincing. read more

I visited Toledo Auto Care to figure out what this awful noise coming from my car could be. I was treated very professionally; their staff is friendly and intelligent. They aren't the cheapest mechanic in town, but the work they do deserves more than the bare minimum. You're paying for a certified mechanic who has been working on cars for years to make your car function to the best of their ability. The same can't be said for other, shadier mechanics in Toledo. The courtesy car was convenient, and allowed me to get to work on time while still getting my car repaired. I would give this company zero stars if I could. I originally brought my car in for the heat not working correctly, a squeaky noise when I started the car, & a grinding noise when I made a sharp turn to the left. I was told I needed a tune up, hvac work done, & a wheel alignment and tire rotation. 3 days and 2,500$ later I received a call from Josh M. stating that my car was ready. Before I even took off I noticed that my airbag light was now on & the trim on my dashboard was bent outwards as well as dirty fingerprints all over my dash from them taking my dashboard off. I went back inside and told Mike M. about the issue and they asked me to leave the car & said they would fix it. I called to get an update and at that time Josh had the nerve to ask me if my airbag light was on when I originally brought it up there?! They noticed that I needed an oil change 10 mins after the initial drop off, I'm pretty sure they would've noticed an airbag warning light! The next day I received yet another call saying my car was ready. When I went to go get my car everything seemed fine until I went to go roll down my passenger window and at that time I discovered that my mirror or window wasn't working. By that time it was past 5pm so I had to wait until the next day at 7:30 am when they opened. I spoke with Josh about my concerns and the terrible customer service that I had received thus far. After dropping my car off once again I asked Josh to not only keep it for as long as they needed but to also please check over everything before they called me to come get my car. Josh called me the next day stating that they had fixed the mirror and the trim and that everything was ready and he himself had inspected my car 3 times. When I went to pick my car up once again Josh reassured me that he inspected my car 3 times & gave me a free oil change card. Not even 5 minutes later while I was inspecting my car I noticed that my passenger mirror went up & down but not right to left. I called Josh out to my car at that time and told him how disappointed I was and that I didn't even want the free oil change because I would never be returning. At that time Josh had the nerve to tell me that everything they had done outside of the hvac was just to make me happy and had nothing to do with the work they had done that it was just a coincidence!? Why give me a free oil change then if you guys are already doing me a favor?! Josh doesn't know what Jacob B. is or isn't doing while working on my car because for one he is NOT back there with him nor did they take not one picture of any work they did and email it to me like they did other customers. My mirror and window were working fine when I dropped it off and I didn't have my airbag light on! Coincidence I think NOT! To make matters worst I called off of work 4 days dealing with this car drama! Just a heads up to future customers Jacob B. was the technician that worked on my car. Yes they offer complimentary pick up and drop off but what about transportation to work & to run errands? It's been a week of me going through this crap because what do you know..now they are telling me that the issue is with my side mirror failing internally and it needs to be replaced. I was told by Josh that he wouldn't charge me for the labor of the new mirror just the actual mirror which was going to be 250$ because it was coming from the dealership but, I called 3 different dealerships and it was only 150$ total with tax so where is the other $100 coming from? After buying the mirror myself for 150$ and assembling the new mirror it still didn't work so I called Josh & told him that a wire was pinched and at that time he told me that they knew they pinched the wire but they didn't think that was it?! Just imagine if I would've paid 250$ for the mirror and that wasn't even the issue? Now once again I have to take my car back up there to hope they finally correct the issue! Also, I never received not one picture update about my car like other customers and when I questioned this again I was told by Josh that they sent it twice and I must have a block because I'm not receiving it! Bull crap because I received an email saying that my car was being service twice and 2 emails about the Coronavirus as well as checking my junk folder. If they really wanted to "do me a favor" like Josh kept saying they were doing give me my money back not a $30 free oil change! Two weeks of dealing with them my car was finally fixed after I called and explained how I purchased a mirror and it still didn't work and Josh told me that the pinched cord was the issue. Midas referred me to this repair shop because I had a problem with the air conditioning in the section that goes to the rear of my minivan. There are not many shops that can do this repair. I stopped in early in the week to ask how long a repair like that would take. They told me 3 to 4 hours. My fiance took it in early Friday while I was recovering from hand surgery. They took him home in the courtesy van. About 1 we hadn't heard anything he called and they were still doing the "diagnostic" I did not want and was not aware they were doing a diagnostic further than determining the the exact problem and cost to fix. Them found I would have to leave the vehicle until Monday for the actual repair.(they are not open on the weekend). This made it necessary to rent a vehicle on Saturday. They had told me it should be ready by noon monday. I called just after noon and was told they would call back in a few minutes. An hour later I had not gotten a call and was forced to pay for another day on the rental car. Called them again at about 2:45 and was told it would be ready about 4. We told them we would be in on Tuesday to pick it up. Then got a call about 10 minutes later that they"finished up early" and it would be ready in 15 minutes. Told them I WILL BE IN TO GET IT TOMORROW I HAD ALREADY PAID FOR ANOTHER DAY ON THE RENTAL. (the rental company was only open until 3:30). When I got it back things left in the vehicle(milk crate of oil etc., tool box, first aid kit etc.) were moved all over the back and middle of the vehicle. The bag I had for trash was gone. Both back seats were folded down and anything on or under the seats was on the floor or in the back cargo area of the minivan. A bottle of power steering fluid that was standing up in the crate was on its side and LEAKING in the cargo area. I had to clean out and straighten out everything behind the front seats. This task was especially hard with one hand. I will now need to pay someone to clean the power steering fluid out of the carpet in the cargo area. The air conditioning does now work but with a $100 "new customer discount" it still cost a little over $1,900 including an oil change. They came up with a list of 5 other problems that needed to be fixed which, I have my regular mechanic checked out. I could also not get a paper print out of the diagnostic report. The full report is available online. The report does contain unnecessary items such as brake and power steering fluid being drained and replaced because it was dark. Replacing wiper blades that had been working fine because the rear one left a little streak and an oil leak that has not left a single drop my driveway, even when I used the remote start. The employees are so nice and have thought of every detail to make caring for your car less of an annoyance. Only used them twice in last month on two seperate vehicles, first visit was SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT on my F150 Which turned out to be PVC hose deterioration. It was taken care of while I waited and it was last minute before they closed A1 service. Second visit was pre trip checkout on my MAZDA6, technician found a leaking bypass hose at clamp. Replaced clamp and sent me on my way as a courtesy At-1 service . Used shuttle service on second visit at drop off and owner took me home. Went in for an electrical problem with a rear window. They fixed the window for a reasonable price, but they also ran the complimentary "health check". Little did I know my car had a number of problems that required almost $3,500 to fix, including a radiator replacement, rack and pinion replacement, a new rear axle seal, two new tires, and other minor things. I was so shocked that I did not know what to do. I ended up taking it to my regular mechanic and I asked him specifically to check for these issues. Several hours later he called me and told me that after exhaustively looking at all these my car had none of these problems. If anything, maybe there was a very small leak of transmission fluid but he did not thin it needed immediate action. Definitely not a radiator leak, not problems in the axle, and no need to replace the tires. Also they did not even charge me for the diagnostics. I'll let you be the judge.... read more

This is the second time I have had a terrible experience at the shop. Two years ago I had my Ford Expedition serviced there for intermittent AC issues. They had it for three days and said it worked great and there was no issue. Twenty minutes after I leave the shop the AC went out and has been out since. I assumed I had a odd ford problem and left it at that. On 6/18/2015 I bring my Chevy Uplander in to have an ABS light and engine light evaluated. The ABS had corrosion on a plug, it was cleaned, and tested and the ABS system was back in service. I leave with the car and there is a ticking sound when in motion from the drivers front wheel. Now they did tell me that my suspension was in need of replacement so I thought that was the issue. Three miles in and the ticking stops abruptly and the ABS light comes back on. I stop and see the wiring cluster hanging on the ground that is suppose to go into the drivers front wheel hub for the ABS. I bring it back and they proceed to tell me it had to be because of the bad front wheel bearing. It most certainly was from the technician failing to attach the wiring cluster safely and securely to the frame so that it didnt get caught on a moving part and pull out of the terminal. In the end I am forced to pay $401.49 for an O2 sensor and for finding out that they fixed and then they broke my ABS system. Never again folks, I find very little honor in this store read more
