Funny thing about working in the restaurant industry is that I can tolerate waits as long as it seems like the server is trying. In this case it seems like the servers attitudes really conflict with the quality of the food that Tokyo provides. I mean accommodating for a large party should not mean that you make the comfort of the table uncomfortable. Tokyo Steakhouse is my favorite local teppanyaki restaurant, I have been to all of the local teppanyaki restaurants, and nothing compares. The chefs are wonderful. The service is great and the food is delicious. They give you heaping portions so that you have enough left over for lunch the next day, We have made it a family tradition to go there for birthdays and special events. Honestly, people come here to only write bad reviews. Frequently, people who enjoy a place, will just come back. I can tell you this. This place has been really good to me. I've been there a few times when service was kind of slow but what can I expect? They're staff is short and they were busy. The couple of servers that I saw were running around like crazy. Over all I came to try this place first because of all the bad reviews. I'm so glad I did! I love this place and so did the rest of my party! The chefs were great and the manager was so nice! Definitely coming back again! I tell all my friends and they loved it as well! People will be people and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I understand that some customers can be really hard to deal with because I've witnessed it from the few times I've been there. Very dirty place, the floors in the dining area are littered with paper and debris. The tile floors are very dirty and stained. The carpets are soiled and stained. The mens bathroom was very dirty. Windows are dirty. Overall, the whole place needs a good cleaning and detailing. Service was very slow, had to ask for drink refills. Food was good, chef was entertaining. Came in with a huge party at least 29 people. They gave us 3 tables. One of the tables there was another party of 4 sitting there already. The table I sat at I was mainly squished. We had 12 people at one table. Usually it sit 8-9 the most. The brother and sister table had 11 people at each table. Instead of accommodating us to another table they made us all squished. How are you able to enjoy your food when we can't even fit in. We had order sushi definitely wasn't the greatest. Super dried and no flavor at all. Teppanyaki wasn't the best. Our cook didn't communicate with us nor there was no show. Kids gets always get excited about it. Our serve was ok. I had asked for things and was never brought out. She forgot about an extra side of rice. I have to say Restaurant definitely need a deep cleaning. Their table and grill looks disgusting. Everything just seem outdated. This is a so-so Teppan-Yaki restaurant. It's always crowded, so they must be doing something right. It could also just be that there is not a lot of competition in the Clovis area. The food is exactly the same as Japanese Steakhouse and Sakura Chaya. The greeters here have no personality, but the chefs are pretty decent though. I do not recommend going here in the summertime. The low ceilings cause the whole restaurant to turn into a sauna! You will be dripping with sweat when you leave, which is not cool when you're out on a date. This is one of our favorite places to go until last night. Two men sat at the sushi bar drinking, and speaking loudly. A worker from the kitchen, a large man, kept bringing them beers and talking to them. The conversation was loud and filled with foul language. The more they drank the less vocabulary they seemed to possess. The f-word was a particular favorite. Our party doesn't have delicate ears but there was a family with two children and a grandmother seated beside us. This made everyone uncomfortable. I absolutely love this place. This is the second time having teppanyaki this. In the mix of placing our order I asked to get an extra bowl of rice. Shannon asked how much that was (they didn't know you could ask for an extra bowl of rice) I told Shannon like a buck. The waitress stated that it was $2 bucks. So we all ordered an extra side of rice with our meal. The waitress brought us 3 extra soups which we didn't order. She came back to the table to remove them. Shannon excused herself from the table & returned saying she just got into an argument up front with our waitress, she said the lady charged us $4.50 for each extra bowl of rice? We were all dumb-founded because I specifically asked how much a bowl of rice was & the waitress stated $2. After her having an argument (which a waitress shouldn't argue with the person paying your tip) she had a bit of an attitude. It sucks because this is a great spot to eat but yet the manager didn't honor what the waitress stated. I don't know if the waitress actually spoke to her manager she just said the manager wouldn't honor it because if you open the menu & actually read it, the price is listed right there for you to read $4.50. Used to work here and it was bad. They really need to update their store because everything is falling down. They make pretty good amount of money that can go towards to fix the store . I wouldn't recommend anyone to work here due to the service and management of what I experience. They don't have any good leadership. The manager doesn't have the best personality of being a manager. 3&1/2 stars if I could. The thing that threw me off when I first had my order was the half cooked rice. I usually compare it to my rice I cook at my restaurant because I know how good it is. The rice at Tokyo steakhouse didn't have enough water so when it was done, the rice was hard. The Order my wife got had little shrimp and a lot of mushroom. THE WORST EVER!!!!!!! I wish I could award zero stars. The wait time was ridiculous - with a reservation. While we were waiting we sat at the bar. There was one guy behind the bar who never asked if we needed anything. When we asked him for a couple beers - he said "I dont have time to help you right now". WTF! THEN 2 other girls came to the bar and we asked them for a couple beers. One girl said " I though ____ helped you already?" And gave us a look like we were bothering her. We told her we hadnt been helped yet and she told the other girl to help us. There were 12 of us in our party - instead of giving us 2 tables or a larger table, they squeeze 12 of us into an 8 person table! A friend was sitting right in front of a pole and my husband couldn't even fit on the table. He was sitting in a corner and everytime the chef got to his plate I had to lift it up and get his food. We ordered Sushi and TepanYaki - We had to ask at least 3 different time for napkins, forks, soy sauce bowls.... The waitress was AWFUL!!! She would go get one thing and forget everything else we asked for. Then when we asked for it again she made a face like it was our fault she forgot. On the 3rd time that I asked for a soy sauce plate, she actually said " didn't I bring that out already?" The place was dirty. it seems like there was no effort made at all to enhance the tepan yaki "experience". The grill was dirty... yes there were still remnants of the last dinner on it when he started our meal. :( We had to ask every time we needed a refill. Which again, we had to ask several times before receiving. Places like this are the reason I HATE when they automatically include gratuity for large parties. I have no problem tipping above and beyond what I should for good service. Even ok service. But the service here stinks!!! When you go out to dinner you pay to be taken care of. AT this place you had to continually ask for something or another and got an attitude along with it. Well be pretty disappointed to come here with a full party of people because i guess u can come in leave your name and they will call u later. When we got there no one was there and they told us it would be an hour and 45 minute wait, when i asked why they said that there were 9 parties of 2-3 ahead of us. So as we were waiting for her to call down the lost of the people that weren't there, there were 4 teppanyaki stations available and we could have filled one whole station but the front desk gal insisted on calling everyone on the list.
