Decided to try this place as the other local Chinese restaurants were closed. Other than the eggrolls (which, I'm pretty sure you can't mess up) the food was overall lacking seasoning and pretty bland. The lo mein was overcooked and tasteless. I can't attest to the sushi side, but after tasting the Chinese offerings, I'm glad I saved my money. Plenty of better options in the area. Service was quick. read more

Tokyo Mandarin is by far the tastiest and best quality Chinese food on the East Coast that I've ever had. New Jersey, New York, all the way up and down the East Coast. I only say the East Coast because our Chinese style of food is way different. Drenched in sauce but somehow at Tokyo Mandarin ,they pull it off in amazing fashion. Inside is a very tranquil and friendly dining experience. all the waiters and the owner Is always exceptionally nice. .......rude.....Rude......RUDE. .......My girlfriend and I were interested in trying out a new restaurant-Upon entering, the "Maitre'D" asked us quite coldly if we had a reservation. I apologized that we did not, and it seemed as though he was bothered and it was an inconvenience for him to seat us, paying customers, in his half-full restaurant. Even still? This behavior wasn't enough to spoil an experience-Maybe the man had just had a rude patron or an exhausting day. .......The real "fun" began when we were seated. We were given menus, and I flipped to the beverages-The section *clearly* read: "Hot and Iced Teas." I asked the waiter for an iced tea-The man YELLED at me: "WE DON'T SERVE ICED TEA-I'LL BRING YOU A POT AND YOU'LL ENJOY IT." .......First and foremost: DO NOT YELL AT ME. DO NOT ORDER *FOR* ME. Aside from Seinfeld? I can't think of any time it's comical to insult your patrons! I was ready to leave but my girlfriend protested and I agreed to calm down. The waiter returned to take our order and placed an unsteeped teapot on the table. I ordered a sashimi deluxe, and then wished to order two pieces of Ikura (salmon roe.) Sushi a l'a carte-Once again? LISTED DIRECTLY BELOW ON THE MENU AT $2.75 each. ........The son-of-a-BITCH actually had the audacity to YELL AT ME AGAIN. HE ACTUALLY YELLED AT ME THAT I COULDN'T ORDER ANYTHING SEPARATE FROM THE COMBO!!!!!!! My sashimi? Barely above supermarket grade. Her tempura? Okay. ........Finally, we were given the check. It took every part in defiance of my instincts to leave a tip.....I wanted to write a nasty note instead, but took the high ground. As we left? I've NEVER had an establishment NOT thank us for our business and invite us to come again. They basically shooed us out. .......There are MANY fine dining establishments happy to earn your business and serve you a quality meal.....This is not one of them. Go to Bay Avenue Sushi in Somers Point instead.....Not as expansive of a menu, but you won't feel ridiculed and insulted as you begrudgingly swallow overpriced *shit.* And yes! It is *shit!* This establishment's staff and its way of doing business makes a Bruce Lee death punch to the genitals seem like a more enjoyable Asian experience than another visit to this restaurant.....The fact that it's actually part of a chain is utterly mind-boggling to me, but I suppose that in one of the most densely-populated states, we must have a high concentration of masochists who probably enjoy eating at these establishments before being flogged and degraded behind closed doors. First of all the guy who works the front counter is a real OG. He's the Mike Tyson of Chinese food. They also have Japanese food, but you probably don't even know the difference. The gentlemen behind the sushi bar really know how to roll something up. I've never met the kitchen staff however I've never had a bad meal there. If I had the opportunity the meet them and I was wearing a hat, I would take it off for them. Absolutely LOVE this place. The sushi is amazing and always consistent. Kamikazi maki & angry lobster are our favorites but they also have outstanding Thai food as well. Try their specials...we have had a fruity/spicy chicken as well as a spicy thai chicken... wonderful! Service is friendly. The waiter stared at us during our whole meal, throughout our conversations and was a helicopter waiter, never more 3 feet away from us the whole time!! Bill also was suspiciously big. Should be a zero star even though the food was good. The takeout menu is significantly cheaper and they write in Chinese so we couldn't even see if we were charged the write amount for the right orders. I have spent 6-8 mos in China for the past 10 years. If this place was there, it would last a day or two. The sushi is far from sushi grade, although they charge you for it. If you want the best sushi in the area, go to Tomatoes in Margate, you will see the difference on the first bite. The Mandarin Group is FANTASTIC! My family moved away from the Gloucester County Area about five years ago but still have a home in the shore area. I was thrilled when I realized it was the Mandarin Group down at the shore. I love their Chicken in Sweet Chili Sauce and Strawberry Chicken. YUM. The flavors are unique and the chicken isn't deeply fried. It's Asian cuisine without being super guilty. I'm also a big fan of veggie sushi and I like their cucumber maki rolls. We went here a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about my delicious meal. We started with some tuna sashimi and edamame. The sashimi wasn't the best I've had, but was still good quality. My boyfriend loved the edamame. I ordered a shrimp dish that was fantastic - well - the shrimp was fantastic. So fresh, cooked absolutely perfectly! I can't remember the last time I had better shrimp, and I'm really picky. The shrimp came with udon noodles, which aren't my favorite, but the flavor was really great. I don't even remember what my boyfriend got because I was so wrapped up in my meal, but I know he enjoyed it. Interior of the restaurant isn't very large, and was packed when we were there. Nice and clean inside with attentive staff. We'll definitely go back. read more

I eat here quite frequently. The food is decent and the service is good. Their sushi is always fresh, but definitely inconsistent. They last few times, all of my sushi rolls fell apart. Also, they try to be an upscale restaurant...offering the cheapest quality of wood chopsticks is not ideal for the price. Unfortunately, it's the only local place for sushi/sashimi. We enjoy the food very much every time we eat there which is often but the service is absolutely awful! The last three times we've been there we waited at least 20mins to be seated then another 20 mins to place a soda order but the place was packed! The waiters don't come back to ask how everything is or if you need anything and at our last visit when we stopped him to ask for water and then later sugar he gave us a face and attitude that made us feel as if we were inconveniencing him! Very rude! We were a party of 4 the last time we were there and we ordered their fabulous tea. Our youngest son decided after the tea was served that he wanted a cup. We stopped the waiter, an unpleasant experience, to ask for another cup. He brought another whole pot of tea and charged us for it saying tea is only for 3 people, 4 people must have 2 pots! It's their policy! Seriously? Moreover , if you want to order one of their combination meals you can only get them to go. The restaurant is very small and on a weekend night it is packed. So in short , food is excellent, facility is cute and clean but not big enough and the servers are rude and nasty. We will go back because the food is worth putting up with the awful wait staff and ridiculous policies but we will take lots of wine with us! Awesome sushi! Try the sushi pizza it is creative and delicious. This place also serves traditional Chinese dishes, but of a much higher quality than your run of the mill take out place.
