You go through the challenge of: calling AAA, changing the flat or waiting for help. Then what to do? New tires are expensive and most commonly, you just ran over a nail or something. This has happened to me twice in the last year. I drove to Durham to look for a quick repair. This part of Halloway Street requires a little caution. Trying to think of the best way to word that last part. This shop doesn't look like much. You'll see a bunch of guys sitting around in the garage talking. You pull in and a guy who doesn't speak English very well will ask you what you need. I pointed to the tire. Within 10 minutes, my tire has been plugged, for, get this, $10! That's it. So, $10, versus the price of a new tire, um, yes. These guys are very nice. If you don't have cash and have to use a debit card, then you'll have to enter the small office where you'll find a guy who resembles Nicodemus in the Secret of Nimh surrounded by an almost impenetrable cloud of cigarette smoke. He'll stop watching a small TV long enough to swipe your card, before returning to his regularly scheduled program. I've gotta say I was skeptical of this place, given the location and outside appearances, but after two saves, these guys are on my list of auto faves.
