Food was delicious and seafood was very fresh and well cooked. We had the hibachi dinners of scallops and filet mignon as well as a sushi roll and it was fantastic. Server was nice and tried hard to accommodate us, he was sooo busy, they do need more servers. He had so many people to cover, he was just overwhelmed. However, he did a great job. Great sushi place out here in Carlsbad. Staff is nice and the food is always ready super quick. The rolls are creative, flavorful, and have a great amount of fish. My favorite rolls are the Mizo and cowboy roll! The calamari wasn't very good and not crunchy. The spring rolls were pretty good. As a previous guest renamed in yelp, this restaurant is not clean. The floors are great and sticky, the counters were not clean either. Maybe it's hard to keep clean in the open cooking environment? Good stop for a quick bite to eat. I had a rill, the Pink Lady. A very large roll but okay tasting. Others in the party had noodles and rice from the hibachi. Chicken and veggie meals. All said, the food is tastey and recommend trying for a quick bite. read more

I've been traveling around for a while. You've seen my reviews. I've never been negative or disrespectful. If I don't like a place, I follow my Mother's advice, I don't say anything. But this place sucks! A masked (woke) hostess seemed too busy to answer any questions or letting me sit at the sushi bar. I don't complain, but this place sucks for service. Went to this restaurant for Hibachi. After a good wait, I was finally able to order my food. I got as far as veggie rolls with soy paper. I started to order vegetarian Hibachi and asked if they could cook my vegetables without the meat. Due to medical reasons, my body doesn't break down meat and when. The waiter was rude about my request. I have never been treated so badly at a Hibachi. I got up to leave, and I did call after I left to speak with someone... The lady on the phone pretty much didn't care about the issue .I doubt I will go back here. What is bad is I was telling people to try this place after they had a bad experience...guess I better get to eating that crow. read more

Food was wonderful! We had the Philly Roll & Tuna Nigiri plus kid's chicken hibachi and steak & scallop hibachi. After a long day hiking through the caverns we were staved and we all inhaled the food. Just what we were wanting. I was under the predisposition that it is impossible to get fresh seafood this far away from the coast, I was wrong. Of my experience, I entered a quaint Corner Restaurant in the strip mall, greeted probably my service was on point. The seafood surprisingly fresh and everything tasted pretty good. The only downside was I was looking forward to miso soup as a starter, I ordered the spicy crab roll as well as the first love roll both of which were more expensive than I am typically used to paying in a larger City. $14/ea + 4.00 sapporo. I wasn't a huge fan of the starter soup but it was alright, and of all things to go wrong in a sushi roll, on my first love roll, the rice was a little dry or undercooked giving off a bit of a unsavory chewy texture to my meal. All in all, I would definitely give it another shot as a spicy crab roll was pretty good, probably to try that hibachi. read more

Just picked up my to go order and he ordered two dinners, chicken and steak. Got home no soup and no salad for either dinners. Additional the meat portions looked like kids meal size. What the heck I paid $32 not including the tip and I get two kids happy meals. Will not be coming back. One star because I couldn't give none. read more

Honestly I don't take the time writing low star reviews cause personally I do want to build up local businesses but I have been so frustrated with this restaurant. Really they are one of the few Asian restaurants in the area so if I'm craving Japanese this is the place. I'm hoping that this review will help them fix some simple things and improve their service overall. I've given this place a total of 4 tries and each try has been a disappointment. 1.) attached is a picture of my salmon avocado roll. It cost $7 and it barely had any salmon in it. It's completely rice. Never in my many years of heavily eating sushi have I seen a restaurant put rice on the inside AND outside of the nori. First problem is that this is just totally wrong in basic sushi making. Second issue is that this is just so cheap for any restaurant to do this and it fools customers into thinking they're getting good quality solely from pure volume of cheap filler aka rice. 2.) other sushi orders I've had were not great either. Fish was not fresh. Rolls were messy. And when I asked for them to leave out the cream cheese in one of my rolls, they totally neglected to 3.) to go hibachi meals are small portions. Nothing compared to what you get when you eat in. In addition, the meal comes with soup and salad but you have to ask them for it for them to give it to you. What? That should be automatic. 4.)we ordered two hibachi dinners and they only gave us one pair of chopsticks. Not a big deal but annoying if you don't have access to silverware 5.) eating in--we had to ask for the sauces that automatically come with a hibachi meal at other places. Aka the yum yum and ginger sauce 6.) staff wasn't particularly friendly and seemed angry when we came in a little over an hour before close 7.) they wouldn't seat us at a table even though there was not a single other soul in the restaurant until every person in the party was there 8.) I have ordered their filet several times and asked for medium rare and have been served it well done every time Although I clearly had a lot of issues with this restaurant, I can easily see this restaurant being 3-4 star establishment because their hibachi dinners do taste good and they have some creative rolls with some key changes read more

I have eaten there twice, about a month apart. I had the hibachi steak and the hibachi chicken. The meats and vegetables were cooked perfectly. However, rice, which forms the center of a Japanese meal, was terrible being cooked without enough water. I suppose this is the result of Chinese run Japanese restaurant. Japanese rice is moist and sticky, unlike the typical drier rice of Chinese cooking. Service was fine, nothing outstanding. Hibachi dinner is a treat! All ingredients are great, well seasoned and cooked right in front of you. Our hibachi chef was friendly and entertaining. We had a few children at our table and they loved it! I got the filet mignon and shrimp dinner and everything was very juicy. The rice comes first, then the meats, then the veggies. You can wait until they are all on your dish to start, but I couldn't help start eating! Pretty well priced (under $30) for hibachi. Ample parking because Tokyo is part of a shopping complex. Hibachi in Carlsbad? You bet. We were late getting into town and there are only a few restaurants open past 8pm, even on a Friday night. Tokyo was one of our only options and it was about what you would expect for hibachi in the southernmost part of New Mexico. It was, as Yelp says, "A-OK." There are options for hibachi cook-to-order dinner or you can grab a regular table and order off the regular menu. Sushi is available no matter where you sit. The hibachi was fine - salty and laden with cholesterol-clogging goop (as is the case for most hibachi). We were served enough rice to feed an army and we took home a good two meals each from our plates, which is an impressive value with the $11-14 price tag for each hibachi plate. No major complaints but no strong raves either. If it's past 8pm in Carlsbad, it's not a bad option. read more

Overpriced,horrible experience.!!! Our server were rude and literally only stop by to take our order and give our check. The food was absolutely awful. The hibachi food had so much butter and soysauce it was inedible. The steak quality was like the lowest grade beef ever,it was tough and gamey. Wow! Awesome fresh food! We opted for a table in lieu of the grill. I had teriyaki chicken with fried rice. The portions are big and the food fresh and very tasty. I ordered hot tea and was disappointed I got a tea bag? I was hoping for the pot of hot tea. Our waitress was very nice although she did not understand English very well. We asked for the ginger sauce and the cream sauce you normally get at a hibachi grill and she had no knowledge as to what we wanted. We eventually got another server who assisted. No fortune cookie or dessert at the end of the meal...think that might Chinese and Japanese The prices are great! They have a sushi bar too with a huge variety of rolls and sashimi.
